"First... what is a shade?"
Eyil's expression turned suspicious and accusing, as did some others among the Nalduri crowd, but the Demians all seemed as clueless as Lucian himself.
"The time for deception is over, shade. Tell me how yo-"
Widening eyes and a gaping mouth interrupted his words, as every man and woman facing Lucian's direction gasped, their own expressions equally shocked.
Hesitantly, he turned his head to look back and froze. Silhouettes of human shape, much like himself, had gathered in the distance. Hundreds of them.
They stared down the crowds of humans, as every one that met their featureless gaze shivered.
Though Lucian felt nothing too out of the ordinary, given he was staring down hundreds of moving shadow men, Demians and Naldurians both felt an overwhelming sense of rejection spring forth from their bones alongside a feeling of impending doom greater than anything Lucian had felt here before.
