Paragon of Death

Life from birth has been nothing but hell. I lost my parents to some stupid aristocrats whom they offended. Executed for no good reason. My relatives abandoned me and pushed me aside. They feared for their lives and left me and my sister to starve and wander the streets alone! No, this is worse than hell! I watched my sister die of starvation. Her lips were dry and her feet bloody. Her nails were broken and her fingers riddled with cuts. She struggled in my hands and after a few seconds of struggle she passed away. She seemed joyful in death so I prayed mine will come just as swift and merciful as hers. So I stayed in the alleyway, alone with her rotten corpse awaiting my fate for God knows how long. I could see it already. The darkness encroaching from all sides Everyone said death is scary but I say it's the end! Who needs life after death? What is the need for reincarnation? Who would want to return to this crazy world? "It's not yet time for you to go... You have one more task to accomplish as my host" A voice called out to me. I could barely see or speak but how can I miss such a beautiful face? It was an extremely handsome man who gazed at me with tender eyes. "Haven't I suffered enough? Can't I just rest?" I cried out. Why would I want to stay back in such a cruel world? "Don't you want to avenge the death of your parents? Don't you want to become something greater? I can make that happen!" The beautiful man said with an alluring voice. "You... Who are you?" I asked with an anxious heart. My parents always said God is the only one who cares about me! Maybe in my final hours, he has come to save me. "Call me Death..."

Chapter 22: Life of a war mage.

The class started smoothly and most parts of the class was aimed at helping students understand the various options open for them as war mages after they graduate.

The name war mage was only a title as what can be done after graduation was far more than Damon expected. As a war mage one can be a scholar. A learned mage, who devoted his time to magic research. Of course, this option is available to all classes. A war mage scholar is probably responsible for the research on destructive spells.

Over the years many general destructive spells have been created and used by high-level mages, all of these are works of war mage scholars. You can also choose to teach in an institution like this as a war mage, just like professor Emma. None of that really got Damon's attention.

Then there are the royal guards. As a war mage, you can choose to be a royal guard and when selected you can live in the royal palace in peace until a war breaks out which is quite unlikely. Damon had no intentions of spending a second with the king and his cocky descendants. He may end up murdering them out of anger

Meanwhile, there is also the army carrier. A war mage can simply decide to join the army, and work their way up the ranks like every other normal soldier.

Finally, there is the Ranger option. A Ranger has many purposes in a kingdom but many tend to avoid this because it is said this is the worst and most dangerous profession of all.

It requires one to travel outside the kingdom, depending on the kind of mission given to them, they would most likely end up battling magic beasts of various levels, battling leech emperors, or clashing with other kingdoms.

The funny thing is that as a ranger you can choose to work alone or in groups but most choose to go solo. They sleep in the wild and more. Such a lifestyle is designed to drive any man without enough mental fortitude crazy. It's safe to say, Rangers are no different from wild animals in the eyes of commoners.

"Perfect" Damon said with a bright smile.

As long as it would give him chance to leave the kingdom and get stronger, he wouldn't mind doing it.

The rest of the class focused on explaining their role in their various teams, the tests, and the competitions to come. With the rewards and all that to be acquired from these events.

At the end of the class, everyone was handed a bar of low-grade mana crystal. This is a cultivation material, and even though it is low grade, it is quite a lot from Human realm cultivators at the amateur level.

Apparently, these will be the only free resources they will get from the academy. The rest will have to be worked for with their performance. That way not everyone will be allowed to grow at the same pace. In fact, the chosen will be given even more resources.

Seeing this, Damon frowned. In this class right now for war mages there may be other chosen he is not aware of but it seemed the class totally ignored them and focused on him.

He could feel the cold gazes on his back. Each Chosen has a badge that allows them to be challenged seven times a week. Once a day. This means the first seven cannot be rejected. After that, they can choose to reject the others till the next week.

In these battles, death is quite common and the academy does not blame anyone. If people want his head or plan to please the Wright family, they will challenge him!

Damon quickly stood up as the class ended but then someone walked past him. His pupils were blood red with long black hair and red stripes all over it. He wore a red coat which had the chosen badge on it, under it were black trousers and a shirt. This is the first time he is seeing a mage not wearing a mage robe.

His skin was quite pale and he had this dangerous aura around him, even though he was lanky. Maybe only Damon could feel it because other students were gazing at the kid as if he was some sort of easy prey due to his lanky build and pale look

"You! I don't know what the chosen has become these days! For them to accept someone like you and him" A youth who was obviously older with a buff build blocked the pale kid's path and spoke.

"Move…" The pale chosen said coldly. Even his voice seemed like something fading. He gave the impression that he didn't have much to live.

"You dare use such a tone on me? I was going to let you off the hook and just ask for your badge but now you leave me no choice. I challenge you to a duel!" the man said with a cruel smile.

Meanwhile, Damon sighed. He already knew who the victor would be. He looked to the podium and saw Professor Emma watching. She too seemed to notice how powerful the kid is. She sighed since she already knew the outcome of this fight. It will be a one-sided blood bath!

"Let us take this outside!" The macho mage said but the pale kid simply shook his head in refusal.

"There is no need for that. This will end in an instant" The kid said as he pulled out a dagger.

"You!!!" the macho youth was enraged by his words and his body shoot violently as it slowly began turning silver!

"METAL MAGIC!" someone screamed!

"Wasted effort" the pale kid said as he pricked his finger with the knife and a drop of blood fell out.

Xiu!

Suddenly the falling blood halted in mid-air and quickly took the shape of a small needle and shot forward!

Puff!

"My eyes!" the macho youth cried out in pain as he held his bleeding eyes.

"You lost the moment you picked me as your opponent" The pale kid said dryly as his eyes let out a red flash.

More blood began gushing out of his inured eyes and circled the macho youth, forming a blood ring around his neck!

Bang!

The blood solidified and began choking the macho youth! He struggled at first but soon cracks began appearing on his steel skin. His eye was pinned on the pale youth, pleading for his life but the pale kid showed no signs of stopping. His eyes glowed brighter and he clenched his fist

A bone-breaking sound could be heard and the corpse of the macho youth fell to the ground. Just like the kid said, it ended in an instant!
