Paragon of Death

Life from birth has been nothing but hell. I lost my parents to some stupid aristocrats whom they offended. Executed for no good reason. My relatives abandoned me and pushed me aside. They feared for their lives and left me and my sister to starve and wander the streets alone! No, this is worse than hell! I watched my sister die of starvation. Her lips were dry and her feet bloody. Her nails were broken and her fingers riddled with cuts. She struggled in my hands and after a few seconds of struggle she passed away. She seemed joyful in death so I prayed mine will come just as swift and merciful as hers. So I stayed in the alleyway, alone with her rotten corpse awaiting my fate for God knows how long. I could see it already. The darkness encroaching from all sides Everyone said death is scary but I say it's the end! Who needs life after death? What is the need for reincarnation? Who would want to return to this crazy world? "It's not yet time for you to go... You have one more task to accomplish as my host" A voice called out to me. I could barely see or speak but how can I miss such a beautiful face? It was an extremely handsome man who gazed at me with tender eyes. "Haven't I suffered enough? Can't I just rest?" I cried out. Why would I want to stay back in such a cruel world? "Don't you want to avenge the death of your parents? Don't you want to become something greater? I can make that happen!" The beautiful man said with an alluring voice. "You... Who are you?" I asked with an anxious heart. My parents always said God is the only one who cares about me! Maybe in my final hours, he has come to save me. "Call me Death..."

Chapter 21: Element combination

With nothing else to do, Damon could only keep practicing in the meantime, unaware of the target placed on his back. His mana reserves are quite low for a mage and he will have to depend on it while he is still on the human level, so Damon knew this would be a long ride.

His knowledge as a fighter is greatly limited to what Daniel Ross thought him. While he may not have any problem in the early phases of the human realm but once they begin cultivation and rise to higher levels, mages will grow extremely stronger, and unless he has a method that he can use to close the gap he will be disadvantaged.

Who would have thought Death would have picked such a dysfunctional host?

Funny enough this crappy host is the perfect cover.

Damon arrived at the war mage class and saw people outside. Apparently, the teams have already been shared but since there were too many people clustered there, he didn't bother to check. He just walked into the hall.

There he saw a young lady standing at the podium alone in silence. She had bright red hair and she wore revealing clothes that looked like a customized mage robe that allowed her assets to show excessively.

Gazing at her massive bosoms, Damon couldn't feel a thing and he frowned. Just like Cyrus said, his personality is getting affected by the death magic and there is nothing he can do about it.

He picked the chair at the very first row and sat quietly, with no expression revealed.

Professor Emma was stunned too. She was quite famous in the empire and all male students would keep looking at her bosoms but Damon didn't seem moved. He remained calm and didn't even bother glancing at her after the first time, catching her attention.

"You are?" Professor Emma leaned forward as she asked.

"Damon… Damon Ross" Damon responded calmly as he looked into her eyes.

Hearing the name she frowned. He is probably one of the people on the hit list of noble families like hers and since she wasn't present she didn't know what a twelve-year-old did to attract so many enemies, she just heard the story.

"You are Damon Ross? The one who killed Luthor Wright?" She asked with a shocked expression on her face.

"I already said that" Damon answered dryly with a nod.

"I heard you are quite talented" She said with a raised eyebrow. She didn't mind how rude he is. Other noble kids were far worse after all.

"I also my shortcomings… it's natural" Damon said with a frown. He wasn't sure what the lady was trying to do.

"Is that so?" Why aren't you trying to find out what team you were placed in like the rest?" She asked.

"Too many people out there… I hate crowds" Damon said while shrugging his shoulders.

"I understand. Since you are the first one here, I will let you in on a secret." Professor Emma said calmly.

Damon simply nodded but didn't say anything. He gazed at the lady with one raised eyebrow to show he didn't really trust her much.

"Almost everyone is born with three elements. All you have to do is know how to combine them" She said as she summoned a water sphere in her left hand and a wind sphere in her right.

The two seemed attracted to each other like magnets, forming a sphere of ice at the center.

"Only high nobles can achieve this. To be able to do this, one must have a firm understanding of their power and a way to differentiate each element it takes years, if not decades of training." Professor Emma said proudly.

Damon listened to this and frowned. He has gone through a lot and if it means differentiating his elements he can do that perfectly because he uses his emotions. Each element is like an emotion of its own and what if he tries to combine both emotions?

Professor Emma watched as Damon raised one hand and a small ball of fire formed as the wind danced within it. At first, it looked a bit rough and separate but then the wind began merging with the fire, shrinking it until it was reduced to one tiny orb.

"Explode" Damon said calmly as he let the tiny orange orb drift forward before exploding violently, causing more damage than it normally should!

"Fire needs air and I have an abundance of that. Instead of letting it rage without any aim, I guess I can just suppress it and let all the power out In one go. This is fairly easy" Damon said to himself but Professor Emma was pale.

To be able to differentiate between her elements took her a few years, that was the only way She could completely combine them. HSE just spoke to Damon about it and he did it without hesitation.

This explains why nobles want him dead! If they let someone this talented roam free for too long, it's only a matter of time before he becomes a huge problem.

"You…"

At this stage, students began walking into the class allowing professor Emma to let out a sigh of relief. Who would have thought this kid would be this talented? If the empire should hear of this, she won't be too special anymore.

Meanwhile, Damon didn't care. Neither did he have the intention of using this power again. At least not until he improves in the realm. Doing this required a fair amount of mana and concentration. Using it on a large scale would mean he needs to draw a magic circle and it will most likely leave his mana reserves dry.

He shot professor Emma another glance and frowned. There was. Something about her, he couldn't place his hand on. When speaking to her, he felt like he was speaking to someone quite dangerous. He was sure he didn't get this feeling because she is stronger. He felt he only got it because he couldn't tell what she was thinking. She's probably a bit like him.

"I will have to be careful with her from here on out" Damon said with a firm look on his face
