Chapter Eleven: Who Are You Really?

"Min Jinu!" is the last thing I heard before the world went dark.

(Kim Yeol's POV)

I pulled out my phone and frantically dialed the emergency number.

"911, what's your emergency?" the person on the other line said.

"I-I need you to send an ambulance to this address. Please hurry, this is an emergency."

"We need the specific reason of why you called," the man said.

"He overdosed on pills, please hurry."

"An ambulance is on its way."

"Thank you," I said before the man hung up the phone.

I rushed back over to Jinu. "Min Jinu! Wake up!" I shook him shoulders.

(Min Jinu's POV)

My disease is not really a disease.

My disease is Yol Sang Kim. She made me like this. I'm not blaming her, but she had already killed me inside.

"Min Jinu!" She shouted over and over. I kept my eyes closed, because every time I opened my eyes, my sight became blurrier and the world spun around me. I kept my breath steady. She was tapping my face, almost slapping me. Her voice wasn't smooth nor soft. She was panicking.

Everything... around me... it felt so surreal... like the past was replaying.

I remember the first time I met Yol Sang Kim.

[Flashback]

Looking back at my memories. My parents didn't treat me well. They didn't treat me like my normal parents would. They treated me like slave.

They tortured me, hurt me in every way possible just for their satisfaction.

For years they'd hurt me. I never fought back. Finally, high school rolled around, and it had gotten worse.

My parents hurt me; the students bullied me. What good am I? I often thought. After years of receiving harsh physical and emotional pain, I finally became immune to it. At that time... I met her. Yol Sang Kim.

Did I meet her by destiny? Or by chance?

I've stayed at the bridge for years. The bridge has been my comfort zone. It gives me peace and silence.

I always wondered, if I jump off the bridge, would everything change? Or would no one even notice I'm gone?

I'm not the kind of human that just gives up, right?

But it's too much. I was about to jump when Yol Sang Kim stopped me. I was at the edge if the bridge, and my arms were still attached at the bridge handles. But my body was already bent forward, ready to jump at any second.

She told me things… things that no one had ever told me before.

I hadn't seen her face that time... so I jumped.

Everything changed when I jumped.

Everything felt good...

Everything felt so right...

She jumped off the bridge to save me. It wasn't the first time someone would save me, but Yol Sang Kim saved me first.

Would I have jumped if I had looked back at her first?

[End of flashback]

The paramedics finally came. They hovered over me and carried me onto a stretch. We drove to the hospital, and she was there, beside me. She held my hand like Yol Sang Kim always did.

I thought everything had an end... But for all I knew, every end had a new beginning.

Today… I feel okay.

---

After hours of pretending to be asleep. I finally gave up and opened my eyes.

My eyes wandered around the room until they finally landed on hers.

"I've been here for hours, and now you've finally decided to open your eyes. I'm really glad you stopped pretending to be asleep," she said sarcastically. I gulped.

"Sorry."

"Min Jinu... I'm trying to help you here, so I hope you stop trying to kill yourself. You've been doing this from the very start of your childhood! Your parents are dead, yeah, but you need to get over yourself and man up! I know you, Min Jinu! I saved you at that bridge! I've been trying to help you! What is-"

I was shocked. Her eyes widened in shock too. What was she saying? What? How did she know those things?

She swallowed hard. "U-Uh..." She tried to speak but nothing came out.

My eyes narrowed. "Who are you really?"
