Iji had never imagined that what Law said could be true—he was a member of the Night organization.
If that was the case, things were about to get complicated.
At the very least, whether he and Niji could leave this place alive today was a big concern.
On a larger scale, this would mean that the Vinsmoke family had provoked the Night organization, potentially sparking a war between the two factions.
Before today, Iji hadn't truly seen the strength of the Night organization and had underestimated it.
But after witnessing the lightning-wielding guy defeat his brother Niji in a single blow, Iji now had a deeper understanding of their terrifying power.
If they tried to fight head-on, the Vinsmoke family could not win.
If things weren't handled properly today, this could be disastrous for the Vinsmoke family.
Iji hesitated and said, "We didn't know that Trafalgar Law was a member of the Night organization, which is why we were hunting the Heart Pirates."
"Trafalgar Law is still alive, so things haven't reached the worst point yet."
"If you're willing to let us go today, the Vinsmoke family will offer you generous compensation."
Lucci didn't immediately agree with Iji. Instead, he glanced over at Law, who stood not far away, and asked,
"You're the victim in this situation. How do you want to deal with them?"
"Me?" Law was surprised and pointed to himself.
He hadn't expected that pretending to be a member of the Night organization would avoid suspicion and lead to such an unexpected result.
Could it be that even members of the Night organization didn't know who all their members were? Regardless, this situation couldn't be better for Law.
His and Bepo's lives had been saved, and now he held the fate of the Vinsmoke family—who had killed his crew members—in his hands.
This was a strange feeling for Law. Iji, on the other hand, was filled with dread.
He hadn't imagined their positions with Law would be completely reversed in just a few minutes.
Now, Law had the power to decide their fate with a single word. What Law said next, however, surprised everyone.
"If possible, let them go," Law said.
Lucci raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised. "Are you sure? If I recall correctly, they killed all your crewmates."
Law's voice was calm but resolute. "I know. And that's exactly why I want to let them go."
"When I become strong enough, I want to take revenge for my crewmates with my own hands!"
Law knew he wasn't truly a Night organization member.
Even if they wiped out the Vinsmoke family on his behalf, it wouldn't have the same meaning as his action.
Lucci chuckled. "All right, since that's what you want, we'll let them go for now. But remember, when you're strong enough, settle the score yourself."
Lucci didn't doubt Law's potential to seek revenge in the future.
From his perspective, Law was someone Byakuya had personally requested to recruit into the Night organization.
There must be something special about Law that Byakuya valued, and destroying a regional power like the Vinsmoke family was surely within Law's future capabilities.
Hearing this, Iji sighed in relief, but the worry in his heart did not lessen.
Though they had survived for now, they would still have to face the looming threats of the Night organization and Law in the future.
"Enel, stop," Lucci commanded.
Enel pouted but complied, and with a thought, the massive thunder dragon dissolved into the air as if it had never been there.
Niji, scorched black and unconscious, fell from the sky. Iji rushed forward and caught him, examining his brother's condition.
Seeing Niji's burned body, Iji wondered if Niji was even still alive. But this wasn't the time to worry about that.
They needed to return quickly to treat Niji and report what had happened to their father. The Vinsmoke family had to prepare for what lay ahead.
Holding Niji, Iji fled the island at top speed. Only the two Night organization members and the disguised Law and Bepo remained.
Lucci turned to Law and said, "Since this matter is settled, come with us to the headquarters."
Law knew that if he went to the headquarters and they found out he wasn't a Night organization member, he would jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.
However, since they had just saved him and Bepo, Law didn't want to deceive them further.
He stepped forward and explained, "I'm sorry, but earlier, I only claimed to be a member of the Night organization to eliminate the Vinsmoke family."
"I'm truly sorry! If you want to punish me, I only ask that you spare Bepo. He had no idea about any of this."
Law didn't expect the two mysterious members of the Night organization to burst into laughter after hearing his confession.
Lucci laughed and said, "You know the Night organization has been searching for you in the North Blue, right?"
Law nodded. "That's exactly why I made up that story."
Lucci smiled knowingly and said, "Aren't you curious why we've been looking for you?"
Sensing something strange in Lucci's tone, Law hesitated. "Are you saying...?"
"That's right," Lucci confirmed. "We've been searching for you in the North Blue to invite you to join the Night organization."
Enel grinned and added, "When we heard you admit to being one of us earlier, we were surprised you managed to guess it."
Law was completely stunned by the unexpected turn of events. What he had said under pressure had somehow come true.
Law had no particular aversion to the Night organization—on the contrary. He was grateful to them for saving him and Bepo.
But then he remembered his deep hatred for the Donquixote Family and now the Vinsmoke family.
Law felt that agreeing to join the Night organization might cause them more trouble.
Seeing Law's hesitation, Lucci wasn't surprised. After all, joining a mysterious organization was something one needed to carefully consider.
However, remembering Byakuya's instructions, Lucci said, "Our next target is one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea—Doflamingo."
"The boss said you'll agree to join us once you hear this."
Law was shocked. "Really? Is your organization going after Doflamingo?"
"That's right," Lucci confirmed.
Law was astonished that the Night organization's leader knew about his deep grudge against Doflamingo.
He realized that joining the Night organization might be his best chance to take revenge.
With this, Law stopped hesitating and said, "All right, I accept your invitation. I'll join the Night organization."
Neither Enel nor Lucci was surprised by Law's decision. In their minds, Byakuya had never miscalculated.
At the G-5 Marine base in the New World, Byakuya already learned that Law had joined the Night organization.
Currently, the main combatants of the organization were Lucci, Enel, Law, and the summoned Sonic.
The other members mostly handled non-combat duties like intelligence gathering, which was also crucial for the organization.
Though Lucci, Enel, and Law weren't very strong yet, Enel was the most powerful at a level similar to an elite vice admiral, and Byakuya had high hopes for their future growth.
They were candidates for future admirals.
Even if Byakuya didn't summon any more characters, the Night organization would still stand strong with the three of them.
However, this meant the organization no longer needed to remain in the first half of the Grand Line.
The New World was where the Night organization could spread its wings and quickly grow stronger by encountering powerful opponents.
The most urgent task was to move Skypiea from the first half of the Grand Line to the New World.
According to Enel, Skypiea, which floated on the White-White Sea, usually remained stationary.
However, with some external force, the island could gradually move toward the New World by following the flow of the sea clouds.
It would just take some time. Once Skypiea was close to the G-5 base, Byakuya could start constructing basic facilities there, including producing artificial Devil Fruits.
Every month, Byakuya would receive a steady stream of world energy, making this process enjoyable.
As Byakuya was planning the organization's future development, a sudden knock was on the door, followed by Vergo's voice from outside.
"Base Commander Byakuya, I have a document that requires your attention."
"Oh, come in," Byakuya said, setting aside his thoughts and taking the document from Vergo.
As he read it, his brow furrowed. Why was it that there always seemed to be a lack of money everywhere he went?
The document clearly stated that the G-5 Marine base, a massive facility, only had 1.5 million Berries left.
Byakuya, in charge of nearly 3,000 mouths to feed, asked in frustration, "What happened to this month's supplies? This amount of money won't even last us a week!"
Vergo awkwardly explained, "Because our soldiers looted supplies from the G-4 base last month, all of this month's supplies were redirected to G-4."
Without those supplies, Byakuya had to use the remaining 1.5 million Berries to purchase provisions from nearby towns.
However, this wouldn't feed 3,000 people for over a few days.
Byakuya muttered, "Am I, a man of my strength, really going to have to catch Sea Kings to feed my soldiers? How humiliating."
Although Byakuya still had some personal funds, it wasn't reasonable for a base commander to use his money to feed the Marines.
Stroking his chin, Byakuya thought There must be another way to get more money.
Meanwhile, Vergo, appearing casual, said, "Base Commander Byakuya, I came to report this document last night, but you weren't in your room, so I brought it over today instead."
As a competent spy, Vergo naturally wanted to know all of Byakuya's movements.
Of course, he couldn't be too obvious about it, so his comment was subtle, seemingly concerned about the report's timing.
Vergo hoped Byakuya would explain where he was the previous night.
But Byakuya was fully aware of Vergo's intentions and deliberately avoided answering.
Setting down the document, Byakuya looked at Vergo and asked, "Is there anything else? If not, you may leave."
Seeing that he had been dismissed, Vergo awkwardly left. But he couldn't shake the feeling that since meeting Byakuya, there had always been a sense of wariness in the air.
Although this feeling wasn't strong, Vergo could still sense it.
Only Doflamingo knew about his connection to the underworld, so why was Byakuya so cautious around him?
Vergo couldn't figure it out, but he resolved to be even more careful in the future to avoid arousing Byakuya's suspicion.
Unlike the Sabaody Archipelago, G-5 didn't have as many easy targets for Byakuya to exploit for resources. In the New World, the wealthiest people were undoubtedly pirates.
The wealthiest pirates near the G-5 base were none other than Big Mom's crew and Kaido's Beasts Pirates.
After that, there was the kingdom of Dressrosa, ruled by Doflamingo.
