Chapter 55

A few moments later, Enel showed up. But not in the normal way.1

Enel was a lightning bolt that crashed down a short distance away in front of Ace and Tanya. He looked rather furious.

"You imbeciles! How dare you destroy my abode?" Enel held up sheets of paper in his hand. "Be thankful these survived! If not, you two will die a painful death!"

"Ohh?" Ace was interested. "What are those, exactly?"

"And why should I tell you?" Enel scoffed. "How can a mere mortal understand the genius of God?"

"Well then, don't mind this mere mortal if he forces the answer out your mouth!" Ace sneered.

Tanya stepped forward and stopped the brewing conflict between Ace and Enel.

"Enel!" Tanya shouted. "Finally! After all these years! I can have my hands on you!"

"It's only been three years, Tanya." Enel chuckled. "Did you miss me that much?"

"Fuck you!" Tanya spat. "You stole what was rightfully mine! You're no god!"

"It was a fruit!" Enel said. "Fruits are meant to be eaten! Don't blame me if you were too cowardly!"

"I don't eat what I don't know! I'm not like you, stupid and ignorant!"

"The blessing came to me, Tanya! I am the chosen one!"

Ace smiled by the side as he watched the uncle and niece squabble. They were in an actual disagreement, but compared to his usual shenanigans with his violent Gramps, Enel and Tanya's dispute looked tame and rather sweet.

"You guys really are family! So adorable!"

"Shut up!" Enel and Tanya said to Ace.

"See? HAHAHAHA!" Ace laughed at how they synchronized.

"Enough! Let's end this!" Tanya turned back to Enel. "Tempest Blast!" 

Tanya threw a hand forward as she ran at Enel. A blast of wind surged forward. Unlike her earlier attack, the blast of wind had a wide and unfocused range. But, it was instantaneous.

Enel was thrown slightly off balance. He was pushed a few paces back as he tried to regain his footing. Meanwhile, Tanya didn't relent.

"North Wind!"

Wind gathered around Tanya's body. Ace observed how her movement speed became twice as fast. In seemingly an instant, Tanya was in front of Enel.

"Sky Fang!"

Tanya's extended arm gathered winds. The wind circled around her arm like a funnel, the pointy end at her fist. Tanya made a stabbing motion with her arm at Enel.

"I am God! Invincible and untouchable!"

Despite the attack coming at him, Enel just stood there confidently. He was sure he wouldn't be hurt. Ace and Tanya grinned at his stupidity.

Tanya's attack landed, much to the surprise of Enel. He was thrown away. Tanya clicked her tongue in annoyance.

"So, you weren't as lazy and overconfident as I thought," Tanya said. "You still trained your Devil Fruit."

Enel stood up. He wasn't injured, but he did take a solid hit. Tanya aimed for his gut. Now, Enel stood up on shaky legs.

"This is impossible! How can you hit me?"

Tanya seemed to enjoy the look of disbelief on Enel's face. Ace was disappointed it wasn't the iconic face he made after seeing Luffy easily take his attack.

"I told you! You're stupid and ignorant!" Tanya shouted. "You don't know all about how your power works!"

Ace knew what Tanya was talking about. Besides using Haki, there was a way to counter the seemingly invincible property that a Logia Fruit gives to its eater.

If the element of the fruit is disturbed, the user would become vulnerable to attacks that don't use Haki. It was first shown by Luffy when he fought against Sir Crocodile in the canon.

Despite not being able to use Haki, Luffy was able to take down a much more powerful opponent. Crocodile's hubris and arrogance played a huge part in his downfall, but Luffy's battle genius played a part as well.

By covering his fists with water, and later with blood, Luffy was able to land hits on Crocodile who was one of the more powerful Logia Devil Fruit users.

Ace suspected that the same method would work on him since he's made of fire.

Disruption of the element is the reason why some Logias counter another. Akainu's fruit undoubtedly counters Aokiji's. In the same logic, Tanya's fruit somehow counters Enel's.

Tanya showed it earlier by blocking Enel's El Thor attack using her Tempest Roar. Wind countered lightning.

Of course, neither Ace nor Tanya would explain all that to Enel.

"El Thor!"

Enel retaliated by attacking Tanya with a huge pillar of lightning. Honestly, it was barely lightning. To Ace, it looked like a very familiar wave of energy…

"Tempest Roar!"

Tanya used the same attack she used when Enel attacked them with a long range El Thor. Similar to the first clash, Tanya won. Enel's attack was neutralized.

"Such a shame!" Tanya said, obviously taunting Enel. "A Devil Fruit with so much potential… wasted on an idiot like you!"

Ace was just watching by the side. Personally, he was treating the battle like an exhibition match between two future members of his crew.

Enel turned into lightning and disappeared. He seemingly instantly appeared beside Tanya. His two hands were outstretched, putting Tanya between them.

"50,000,000 Volt Vari!"

Lightning threatened to discharge between Enel's hands. Fortunately, Tanya reacted quickly.

"Wind Block!"

A circular gust of wind bursted from within Tanya. Enel was blown away by the sudden force of Tanya's winds.

Enel turned into lightning and retreated. Once he was at a distance away from Tanya, he initiated another attack. He tapped one of the drums on his back with his gold staff.

"30,000,000 Volt Hino!"

A mass of lightning shaped like an eagle flew out at a great speed towards Tanya. In response, Tanya held out her hand. Wind quickly picked up and surged around her.

"Hawk Sylph!"

Tanya released a blast of wind that shaped itself into a hawk. It was similarly sized with Enel's lightning eagle.

The two bird-shaped attacks clashed. The two attacks tore at each other as if they were real birds. 

Eventually, Tanya's attack won. Albeit, not after being severely weakened by Enel's lightning eagle.

The hawk that Tanya made with her power flew at Enel with all its remaining strength, intending to tear into him as it did with the lightning eagle.

In response, Enel turned into lightning. But, he didn't retreat.

"Kari!"

Enel superheated the air with his lightning and created a thunderclap. The force was enough to dissipate the remaining strength of Tanya's previous attack.

Of course, Tanya didn't just watch the clash of her and Enel's power. She prepared her next attack immediately after she sent out her Hawk Sylph.

"Tiger Sylph!"

Another blast of wind that was much stronger than the last one came from Tanya. This time, instead of turning into a hawk, her attack took the shape of a big tiger.

Of course, Enel countered her move. He tapped two drums on his back with his gold staff.

"100,000,000 Volt Skolhati!"

Two masses of lightning that were shaped like wolves ran towards Tanya's Tiger Sylph. It was a battle between a wind tiger and two lightning wolves.

The fight resulted in a tie. Both attacks dissipated. Both Enel and Tanya paused for a moment.

"You're good, I'll give you that!" Enel said to Tanya.

"Seriously?" Tanya scoffed. "You still think you're an invincible god?"

"I know I am!" Enel raised both his hands for another attack. "Doble Thor!"

Enel charged his attack. Two massive pillars of lightning were about to roar out and engulf Tanya.

Moments later, Enel released his attack.

In retaliation, Tanya raised her arm to the sky. Then, everything seemed to slow down for Ace. He watched closely.

The wind whipped up and surged around her. The very clouds and air itself seemed to have come alive to aid her.

"Zephyrus Blade!"

Tanya brought down her arm like a sword. She made a chopping motion at Enel's attack that would hit her not a second later.

Then, the winds whistled. A large vertical arc of wind that looked eerily like an extremely powerful flying slash met Enel's attack head on.

The two lightning pillars that combined into one were split into two right down the middle from Tanya's attack.

The wind blade Tanya sent cut through the lightning like a hot knife through butter. It flew uninterrupted, coming straight at Enel.

However, Enel was no pushover.

Enel saw the ridiculously powerful attack of Tanya. He promptly turned into lightning and disappeared in a blue flash.

Not a second later, the spot Enel was standing on was cut. The wind blade didn't stop there.

Tanya's wind blade kept going forward until the island cloud itself was cut. A deep ravine formed on the cloud where one would see what was below if one looked down.

Enel reappeared a moment later.

"What ridiculous power!"

For the first time, Enel looked like he was panicking.

"You insolent mortal!"

Feeling the image of himself he built in his mind slowly crack, Enel flew into a fit of rage.

"I am God! I am invincible!"

Lightning crackled. Arc after arc of lightning poured out of Enel as if he let go of all his control. He was going wild.

The clouds turned dark as lightning wreaked havoc all over. Each one of Enel's lightning seemed alive, jumping around like flying snakes.

Ace and Tanya watched Enel get shrouded in lightning. Then, his form became bigger.

"200,000,000 Volt!"

A gigantic deity-looking avatar of Enel came into existence.

"Amaru!"

Enel struck a fighting pose before punching in Tanya's direction. He wasn't anywhere near her, but it didn't matter.

Lightning as big as his giant fist crackled out straight towards where Tanya was. She turned into wind and disappeared, her form carried by the breeze.

Enel threw punch after punch, chasing Tanya with the lightning bolts erupting from his fists.

There were a few close calls, but Tanya was mostly unhurt. But, she had no time to retaliate.

Tanya was stuck on the defensive. She kept dodging Enel's lightning, not having any time to send an attack of her own.

"Run! Run! Keep running!"

Ace watched how Tanya's rhythm was slowly slowing down. At this rate, Enel would land a hit on her.

"Need some help?" Ace asked.

Tanya turned to Ace. Enel didn't pay any attention to him, so Ace barely moved from his spot.

"Five seconds!" Tanya shouted.

"Gotcha!"

Ace used Flicker to disappear from where he was. Turning his body into fire made his speed faster.

Enel was too focused on Tanya. He didn't notice Ace's approach.

Ace reappeared right in front of Enel's giant face. The lightning man looked shocked.

"What?"

"Yo!"

Ace threw a simple straight punch covered in Armament Haki. It landed solidly on Enel's lightning avatar.

Enel was thrown back from the sheer physical force of Ace's punch. His Haki only served to let him touch Enel.

Ace's punch was strong enough to send Enel flying despite his new size. It took Enel a moment to get back up.

Enel wasn't really injured from Ace's punch, but that was the point. Ace only wanted to distract him for a moment.

From Enel's reaction, it looked like Ace was successful in his purpose.

"Another insolent mortal!" Enel readied a punch. "You wish to taste my lightning too?"

"Hmmm… maybe later," Ace said. "I did promise to let her beat you up as much as she could first, after all."

"Tanya? That niece of mine with terrible manners? YAHAHAHA!" Enel looked amused. "She's no match for me!"

"Think again!" Tanya said, but her voice sounded… different.

Ace and Enel turned to where they heard the voice.

'No way… this is gonna be fun!'

Ace Flickered away to watch the show. It will be his first time to see such a battle upclose.

Tanya's eyes were glowing green. The wind around her surged and circled with a force rivaling a tornado.

"You got a neat trick up your sleeve," Tanya said to Enel. "Let me show mine!"

The wind around Tanya got stronger. Her hair was being blown straight upwards from the sheer intensity of the wind around her.

Then, the winds compressed around Tanya.

Similar to Enel, Tanya slowly made an avatar out of her element. But, it was different from Enel.

Unlike Enel's giant potbellied figure, Tanya's form looked much more graceful.

In fact, Tanya's avatar didn't look human. It was more… snakelike. A giant winged serpent made of winds flying above the clouds. Its eyes were green glowing orbs similar to Tanya's.

"Wind Deity: Quetzalcoatl!"
