••••••••••••••••••
Naruto stepped into the palace at the top of Mount Huaguo, his mind going completely blank as he took in the sight. The place was unlike anything he'd ever seen. It was wide open, with no walls or barriers, like one could enter from any direction if they felt like it. The architecture didn't seem to care about rules, and Naruto kind of liked that—it was as if this place was built for freedom.
Small monkeys scurried all around, their little paws pattering against the stone floor. Naruto stopped so suddenly that he nearly crashed into Hiruzen, the old man, right in front of him. The monkeys had mischievous grins, their eyes sparkling with a kind of playful mischief that made Naruto want to laugh. He couldn't help but smile back at them—this place felt alive, like it had a heartbeat, a pulse that made him feel like he was part of something fun.
"Sorry," Naruto muttered as he saw Hiruzen adjust himself, a sheepish grin forming on his face. Before the Hokage could even respond, a little monkey jumped onto his head, tugging at the last few hairs left on his shiny bald scalp.
Hiruzen just gave him a look that said he'd been through worse. Naruto tried not to laugh, but then Enma spoke up, saving his partner from a fate of complete baldness. "Go play outside," the boss monkey said, and the little troublemaker giggled before disappearing in a puff of smoke.
When the smoke cleared, Naruto blinked. Enma wasn't holding a monkey anymore. He was holding a jacket.
What the—? Naruto's eyes narrowed as he watched Enma hand the jacket to another monkey that came in, looking like it was on babysitting duty, gathering up the little troublemakers.
"That wasn't a transformation jutsu," Naruto said, his brain scrambling to make sense of what he'd just seen. That wasn't the Transformation Jutsu I know. It wasn't a trick of light or chakra manipulation. It was something else entirely. He could see it with his mind's eye, like the chakra around the monkey had shifted, bent into a new shape.
"That's because it's not," Elder Xuputi said with a calm smile. "That little one shapeshifted into a jacket."
Wait, what? Naruto's confusion must have been written all over his face because Hiruzen chimed in, nodding like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"This is the special art of the monkey clan," the old man explained. "They use chakra to change their bodies and shapeshift into different forms."
"So why a jacket?"
"That's because they chose that form."
Elder Xuputi nodded at Enma's words. "Every member of the clan, when they come of age, begins training in the art of shapeshifting. The first step is to choose an object they want to shapeshift into."
Naruto felt his heartbeat pick up a notch. Shapeshifting into objects? His mind was already racing with the possibilities—the pranks he could pull, the escapes he could make. Imagine if I could just turn into a rock or something and hide in plain sight! "Can you teach me this skill?"
Elder Xuputi gave Naruto a soft, almost sad smile and reached out to pat his head. "Unfortunately, no."
Wait, what? Naruto's excitement crashed and burned. "Is this like a secret jutsu or something?"
"No, it's because it's..." Hiruzen trailed off, like he was searching for a way to say it.
"It's useless for humans to learn," Enma said, as blunt as a hammer to the head.
"Why?" Naruto asked, frowning. That doesn't make any sense. Useless? Nothing's useless if you know how to use it right!
"Because shapeshifting takes years to learn, and you can only shapeshift into inanimate objects," Elder Xuputi explained.
Naruto opened his mouth to argue, his mind already working on how he could use the system to cheat his way through the years of training, but then he paused. Only inanimate objects? He could feel his enthusiasm deflate like a balloon with a hole in it.
Naruto's determination flared as he thought about the possibilities of shapeshifting. Even if they said it was useless, I don't care. After signing that summoning contract, I'm going to master this technique, whether they think it's worth my time or not.
I have the system, don't I? With that, he could learn any technique. He wasn't going to be that loser back in the academy who passed up the opportunity to learn basic taijutsu just because he had an identity crisis. The basic taijutsu led to the flash fist—who knew what this shapeshifting skill might lead to?
Just as Naruto was lost in his thoughts, he realized everyone else had stopped walking while he kept going a few steps ahead. He blinked and turned back to see them all staring at something.
What's up with them?
Naruto followed their gaze and felt his breath catch in his throat. They were standing in front of a massive statue—a monkey with the build of a gorilla. The statue towered over them, its eyes possessing yellow irises with creepy white pupils that seemed to stare right through him. Spike-like protrusions ran down its tails, giving it a wild, dangerous look. Its fangs were long, blunt, and dark-tipped, and two horns curved up from its forehead like some twisted crown.
But the weirdest part was its mouth—it wasn't like a regular mouth at all. Instead of a tongue, there was an opening shaped like a dome volcano, as if it could erupt at any moment. It was holding a black pillar, gripping it like it was some kind of weapon.
What the hell is this thing? Naruto's eyes darted to the system window that popped up in front of him.
[ Item: Statue of Son Goku ]
[ Description: This is an important monument in the Monkey clan, created to honour the Four Tailed Beast, Son Goku. ]
His mind went blank for a second, and all the questions bubbling up to the surface froze in his throat. He needed answers, but not here, not now. He'd have to ask Hiruzen later when it was just the two of them. But before Naruto could even start plotting, Elder Xuputi's voice cut through his thoughts.
"Ask away," the elder said, his tone gentle but knowing, as if he'd been waiting for Naruto to speak up the whole time.
Naruto looked at Elder Xuputi, then at Hiruzen, who was giving him that same patient smile, like he already knew the million questions swirling in Naruto's mind. Only fools judge those who seek answers. The elder's words echoed in Naruto's head.
Naruto took a deep breath, steadying himself. Alright, time to test the waters. "That's the Four Tails, isn't it?"
Elder Xuputi nodded slowly, his expression softening as he spoke. "Of course, the Four Tails, Son Goku, was the original owner of Mount Huaguo. Six thousand years ago, it was he who allowed our ancestors into this sacred land. He taught them many things and became the sole founder of this clan."
There was something in the elder's eyes, a kind of sadness that made the air around him feel heavier.
Naruto's voice was quieter than he expected when he asked, "Is Son Goku related to the Nine Tails?"
The elder paused, glancing at Enma and Hiruzen, sharing a look Naruto couldn't quite read. It felt like a silent conversation was happening between them, one Naruto was completely left out of. Finally, Xuputi turned back to him and nodded.
"Yes," he said simply.
Naruto placed his hand on his stomach, right where the seal was. "I am the Jinchuriki of the Nine Tails," he said, the words coming out more like a statement than a confession. He thought saying it out loud would make him feel something—anger, shame, maybe even pride—but instead, there was just... nothing. Like he was stating a fact that didn't matter.
"If the Nine Tails has a Jinchuriki, then... is there a Jinchuriki of the Four Tails?"
Elder Xuputi closed his eyes and nodded, his face turning more solemn. Hiruzen cleared his throat and took over. "Yes, Naruto. Just like how Konoha has the Nine Tails' Jinchuriki, Iwagakure no Sato has both the Four Tails and the Five Tails' Jinchuriki."
Two of them? Naruto's mind went blank. A village has two people like him? Two people who are walking prisons for these beasts?
"Naruto," Hiruzen said softly, pulling Naruto back to reality. "Let's discuss this after we're done here, okay?"
Naruto nodded numbly, his eyes drifting to Elder Xuputi. The elder was smiling, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. It was like he was trying to hold onto that mischievous sparkle, but something kept dragging it down.
"I'm sorry if I asked a stupid question," Naruto said, suddenly feeling like a kid who'd overstepped his bounds.
Xuputi shook his head. "No, you don't have to apologize. It's just... it's sad to be reminded that our founder is now imprisoned by humans."
"How did humans get to him?" Naruto whispered, more to himself than to anyone else.
Xuputi's gaze hardened, the warmth in his eyes replaced by something sharp and bitter. "Lord Son rushed out of Mount Huaguo when he heard that the Nine Tails had been captured. He wanted to save his brother, but Hashirama Senju—"
For the first time, Naruto heard venom in Xuputi's voice, like he was spitting out the name of someone he hated. Hashirama Senju. The guy who's praised as the God of shinobi, the great founder of Konoha.
Xuputi's expression softened again as he looked back at Naruto. "Do you have any more questions before we continue?"
Naruto swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly dry. There was one question he'd been holding onto. "Just one," he said.
Xuputi nodded, gesturing for him to continue.
Naruto took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing thoughts. "Are the Nine Tails and Four Tails... really demons?" The word felt heavy on his tongue, like it had been lodged there for years. He'd heard people call it that all his life. Monster, demon, nightmare. But now, after hearing the history of the monkey clan, the actions of Son Goku, the Kyuubi... it didn't feel like that. It didn't feel like some mindless beast. It felt... different. More human, somehow, if that even made sense.
Xuputi's eyes met Naruto's, and there was a flicker of something—pride, maybe, or pity. "So, that's what ignorant humans have come to call the nine great children of the Sage of Six Paths."
Naruto's mind came to a screeching halt as that one sentence shattered everything he thought he knew and answered a dozen of his unspoken questions all at once. Nine beings in total—like Son Goku and the Kyūbi—were the sons of the Sage of Six Paths. Just knowing that these creatures existed meant that the Sage wasn't just some myth. He was real. And if he was real... did that mean the Great Mother and the Eternal Watcher were real too?
Naruto's thoughts were spinning out of control, tumbling over each other in a rush to make sense of everything. But in the midst of it all, one question kept rising to the top, louder and clearer than the rest.
Does the Kyūbi have a name?
Son Goku, the Four Tails, had a name. That meant the Kyūbi must have one too, right? What could it be? And if Son Goku created the Monkey Clan, then... did the Kyūbi do something like that too? Naruto's hand drifted to his stomach, right over the seal. Could the Kyūbi really have made something like this?
"Ahem," Elder Xuputi's voice pulled Naruto back to reality. He blinked and looked up at the elder, his racing thoughts momentarily silenced. Xuputi was pointing to the black pillar that the statue of Son Goku was holding, his expression more serious than before.
"This pillar, the Ruyi Jingu Bang, was our founder's greatest treasure," Xuputi explained, his voice carrying a hint of reverence. "It was given to him by the Sage of Six Paths himself, carved out of a falling star. This is the summoning contract of the Monkey Clan. To become the next summoner, all you need to do is write your name in blood on the pillar."
[ Item: Monkey Clan Contract ]
[ Status: Magic Item ]
[ Description: A pillar stolen by Son Goku from the palace of the Sage of Six Paths. This pillar was named Ruyi Jingu Bang. It's nothing more than a normal stone pillar encased in solid obsidian from Son Goku's Lava release. ]
[ Effect: Writing your name will allow you to become the summoner of the Monkey Clan ]
Naruto nodded, trying to keep a straight face as the system window opened up in his mind. Okay, Naruto, serious, he told himself, taking a deep breath to steady his nerves. Stepping up to the pillar, he finally got a close look at it.
Up close, the Ruyi Jingu Bang was something else entirely. The black surface seemed to shimmer with a strange, otherworldly glow, like it was alive. It wasn't just a plain stone pillar—it looked almost like metal, but softer, more fluid, as if it could change shape at any moment. Naruto could see faint carvings etched into its surface, swirling patterns that pulsed with nature energy, almost like they were breathing. And then there were the names—written in blood that had long since dried. Each name was like a scar etched into the pillar, a legacy of those who had come before him.
He bit down on his thumb, hard enough to draw blood, feeling the sting as the skin broke. His chakra flared up, reacting instinctively, and Naruto could feel its warmth coursing through him, ready to pour out onto that pillar.
Due to being a clone made from a majority of the original's chakra, he was more durable than a normal clone, hence why he didn't have a problem biting into the skin of his thumb hard enough to draw blood.
With a steady hand, Naruto pressed his bleeding thumb to the surface of the Ruyi Jingu Bang, watching as his blood seemed to seep into the pillar. And then, carefully, he began to write his name.
As soon as he finished writing his name, something shifted inside him, like a lock clicking open. This weird sense of belonging washed over him, something he hadn't felt since he first discovered he was part of the Uzumaki clan. It wasn't just a sense of knowing where he came from—it was the feeling of being tied to something bigger than himself, like being part of a great force that had existed long before him and would continue long after he was gone.
Naruto could feel it pulsing in his chest, the connection to the Monkey Clan settling in like a heartbeat. He might be spiritually connected to the Uzumaki clan—his blood tying him to their legacy, their will—but now, with the Monkey Clan, it was different. This wasn't just spiritual. This was physical.
It was like he had finally found another place where he belonged, another part of his identity he didn't even know he was missing until now. As if the Uzumaki in him recognized this feeling and welcomed it like an old friend.
