The Wait!

{The Next Day}

Hikaru woke up in his tent, his bedding consisted of a futon that he had stored in one of his storage scrolls. There was not much room in the tent for anything else, as it was one of the smallest ones. Almost all of the shinobi had a tent in the main base assigned to them, for the most part, if someone was in base camp they could have a night of peaceful sleep.

He woke up and stretched, he had a good night of sleep. After a minute of lazily sitting on his futon, he stood up and left. His tent was with the rest of the members of the command team so it was almost at the centre of base camp. He walked out of his tent and went towards the utility area to wash his face and freshen up.

After a while, he walked into the command center and listened to everyone argue about what the best approach to moving forward would be. 

"-e want to use this intel, what's the point of holding when we know that we are against the puppetry division? If we wait longer then they might gather some intel as well then our advantage would be gone." Orochimaru spoke, Hikaru was not expecting him to be so passionate about something but then again this was a version of Orochimaru that wasn't shown in the anime or manga.

'This timeline's Orochimaru isn't corrupted enough yet... or maybe he thinks that getting merits would lead him to the position of Hokage that would let him get away with a lot of stuff...'

"But going headfirst into a large battle against unknown poisons is foolish. One scratch from a weapon and you will be dead before even being able to reach base camp." Tsunade responded. The two of them were butting heads over this issue for a while now. 

'The only logical option is to send more manpower to see if they could recover some samples of these poisons to crack. But Suna won't be stupid enough to use the really dangerous poisons so soon into the war so this debate is pointless, isn't it? Suna would always have more poisons to throw at us, on the other hand, we would not have this opening again...' Hikaru quickly figured out.

Still, their debate worked in his favor as new sentries needed to be deployed to secure their area, slowly Konoha would secure some at the edge of the Land of Rain to form a barrier of outposts in front of their base camp. 

Since Hikaru was a sensor he would be selected in this advanced team as they are going into an unknown area. The debate was a bit boring so Hikaru walked out of the tent and slowly walked away from the base camp, since he had some time right now he jumped up onto a tree and made a cross seal with his hands.

'Shadow Clone Jutsu'

Even though he hadn't focused on mastering the Rasengan, his chakra was potent enough, and his control control was better than Naruto would ever have. He focused and on his right hand a glowing orb of chakra formed, he was able to hold it for a moment before the chakra destabilized and it burst apart causing a gust of wind to blow.

Hikaru only remembered the three steps to mastering the Rasengan, the shape manipulation needed to learn was a bit more advanced than he was used to but with the war coming having a jutsu like Rasengan to pull out in times of need was quite good.

'I wonder how much chakra it would actually take,' He held out his hand, and this time his shadow clone used his hands to control the chakra he was emitting from his hands. A ball of chakra formed in his hands and as Hikaru kept outputting chakra his clone helped keep the chakra compressed and spinning in the small orb.

Using Naruto's cheat method, Hikaru spent another five seconds forming his very first Rasengan. A popup notification appeared in front of him as Hikaru dispelled his shadow clone and stared at the compressed orb of chakra.

Hikaru let go of the death orb and this time without the use of his shadow clone he held up his hands and repeated the process. 

'Rasengan'

Slowly his unstable chakra stabilized and a rotating ball of death appeared in his hands, he held the jutsu for a bit and then grinded it against the tree. Spliters began flying around as Rasangan simply grinded against the tree as it ate it up.

Throughout this whole process, Hikaru had kept an eye out for the amount of chakra consumed.

'Even while grinding through the tree the Rasengan only took 10 chakra per second to maintain its stability. So the chakra cost isn't that bad, it's like having a destructive A-rank ninjutsu and after the initial cost the cost of keeping it up is almost negligible.' Hikaru thought.

He looked through the experience bar attached to the Rasengan and he gained 1 Exp for every second he held the jutsu on for. Hikaru stared at the number going up and his chakra going down and waited for 98 seconds.

As soon as the notification that the Rasengan had leveled up came he let go of the jutsu and the glowing ball of chakra slowly winked out of existence.

Hikaru looked at the changes that happened to the jutsu and then stared at his chakra level.

'Using Rasengan churned through almost 2800 chakra. That's around 70% of my chakra reserves.' Hikaru stared at the terrible rate at which it burned through his chakra and then stared as it took a full 10 seconds for his chakra to go back up by 1 point.

'If I level it up to max even then it would take 400 chakra per creation of the Rasengan and then 5 chakra per second to maintain it. The only good thing is that the time it takes to form one would go down to 0.5s...' 

The Rasengan had a terrible destructive power, but before mastering the jutsu it wasn't a good idea to use it in a battlefield.

'I might need to go for a quicker solution...'
