Chapter 3: Tantrum

The rest of the breakfast was pretty silent and I helped the boys clean up the kitchen. "You know why he won't do it. Right?" Archer said as he washed the dishes. "No, but it isn't my choice, I did my part in asking." I said as I scrubbed batter off the counter. How the hell did he get batter on the back of the stove? "He won't because she was born human." Nash laughed and turned towards me as he dried a glass. "She doesn't deserve it because she is a bitch." Nash said and rolled his eyes turning to stack the plates.

"Why doesn't she deserve it? She isn't mean." As soon as the words left my lips I knew it was a lie. "Oh, shut up Paisley! We see how she treats you in school. Mom and Dad sees how she snubs you, talks over you. Please." Archer side cut me a look. "Okay so she's mean to me, she isn't mean to everyone." I shrugged as I wiped the kitchen island now. "She is self centered and selfish too. Like what she has is never enough." Nash said as he shook his head now putting away utensils.

I huffed not wanting to defend my sister any longer. "Do you disagree?" Archer turned to look at me, leaving the sink running. I furrowed my brows and shook my head. "No, but I am new to this werewolf stuff and don't know what that has to do with not wanting to turn her." Nash tossed the towel over his shoulder. "Look, she's going to be told our secret, but to have her attitude and be one?" Nash put his elbows on the cleaned island. "She would loose her shit, she could have transform, hurt someone, grow greedy for power. It's not something any pack would want to take responsibility for."

I nodded understanding the weight Uncle Jacob held. "I get it. I just feel sorry for her, and this is only going to give her more ammunition to use against me. What if I loose control?" They shook their heads. "Paisley you are the calmest person we know besides our Mom." I thought about what they said as I wiped down the kitchen table. Aunt Valor was pretty calm, and she seemed to have mastered her gifts. I wanted to be like her, always have. It was a great compliment to receive from my cousins.

After we finished the boys went to surf and I went to find my Aunt. "Aunt Valor, can we work more on my control?" She looked worried. "Do you feel out of control?" I let out a little laugh. "No I just want to have a handle on it before school starts on Monday. "Oh honey you are in control, and really we have taught you everything you need. If something else happens or you have questions you don't understand know we are here." I nodded and went to my room to pack up my things.

I walked downstairs to see my Uncle grabbing keys to open the bar. "You headed home?" I nodded and he huffed. "It's gonna be tough over there and if you need to come back we are here." He took me in for a hug. "Thank you for... Everything really." I giggled as he let me go. "Always Paise." He tapped my shoulder and I grabbed the bag I had dropped when we hugged moments ago.

I walked home and waved to my twin cousins on my way home. Mark and Mike waved from their porch as I passed the dingy yellow house. Their wives and them busy repainting it a bright butter yellow. It looked like more paint was on then then the house.

As I approached my house I could hear my sisters yelling. "I wouldn't go in yet of I where you." My Dad said as he slid the glass door closed. "Come sit with me." I dropped my bag by the door and sat next to him in our wooden chairs. "Is she okay?"

My Dad crunched his eyebrows together and shook his head no. "I don't know. You're Mom told her everything last night, and now she's stomping around. She's been yelling all morning about how life is unfair and you get everything." It was hard for me to cover my surprise. "I guess we where into spoiling you two so much we never saw it was turning one of you a little.." Rotten I provided as he nodded his head.

"I'm sorry Dad. I know me being different is hard, but I enjoyed last night and I'm happy that I know." He smiled and took my hand. "I am glad you know, and I think your Mom is happy too. It was a lot of secrets to keep." I nodded and he gave my hand a squeeze. I squeezed back and I heard Mom scream his name. "Guess that's my que." He stood up and grabbed my bag. "When your ready come in baby girl." I nodded and watched as he dissappeared behind the glass door walking up the stairs.

I listened in to see if it was safe yet. "She is a self absorbed twit, how could she be a wolf and I'm stuck being a human. What gives her the right to change and not me. I am the school president. I am head cheer leader. Tell me Mother, why? Don't answer I know why, it's because I'm not really yours!" Something broke inside that sounded like glass.

I ran inside and up the stairs to see my sister tossing glass vases and crystal figurines my parents had purchased for her. "Stop Faye!" I yelled as she hurled one at me." I braced for it to hit me, but my Dad blocked it. "Enough Faye. Don't be mad at your Mom for caring about you. If you want to be mad at someone, then be mad at me and quit acting like a child." He roared and broke the figure in his hand. My Mom moved from the corner of the room careful not to step on any broken glass. He pushed her out and I went to grab the vacuum. I lugged it upstairs and heard my Mom crying in her room.

"Mom? You okay?" I asked as I opened the door tonsee her sobbing into her hands. "Yeah I'm fine. I just don't know where I went wrong." I shook my head and gave her a hug. "You didn't go wrong you helped a baby. You raised two daughters and treated both as if they where your own." She nodded and I hugged her feeling like she needed it.

I thought of a moment when I was younger and she helped me up off the concrete after ramming my bike into the mailbox. The time I got stuck in our tree s sted to climb down, the spaghetti o's she watched us eat. Christmas mornings when we where all together and ate cinnamon buns. I heard a yell and it interrupted my thoughts... I started to pull away, but my Mom clung to me. "Show me more Paisley." My mom asked, suddenly confused. "Show you what?"

"Good times, you showed me somemhappy moments." Guess that was my gift, showing others memories. I moved closer on the bed sitting on my feet and took her hand. I thoight of more happy moments with all of us. I showed her family game nights, movie night with our whole family cuddled under blankets, hot chocolate with cinnamon on top. Watching the stars, one time in particular when my parents cuddled. I was supposed to be in bed, but came up the stairs to see what they where doing. I saw them together outside. My Dad holding her tight against him as he held a blanket around her. When they tucked us in at night, read us stories, and my first time transforming into my wolf.

When she released me she kissed my cheek. "Thank you for showing me." I nodded and kissed her cheek. "I'm gonna go clean up that glass and order us pizza for dinner." She nodded and I turned one last time to see my Mom now laying on the bed. No tears fell from her face as she held onto a pillow.
