“Oh-oh – baby! It’s nothing, we were talking about nothing at all,” I got flustered as Lux suddenly entered the room. I looked sideways at Gillian, trying to signal her something.

She looked back at me with a bored face and decided to ignore my eye signals.

I turned back to look at Lux to smile widely – hoping it’ll cover up everything. Lux looked like he was mildly confused, however, I was thankful as he decided to ignore it anyway.

“Mom, I’m here ‘cause our teacher recently told us about a field trip,” I started getting nervous – I guess it was time to give him the chance to see the world without me.

I guess I’m guilty of keeping him too sheltered, I wanted to keep him safe especially after the incident back then. Ugh… I don’t even want to think about it.

“It’s fine if you don’t let me go – I’ll tell them, I just need your autho-,” I stopped him as he was about to nonchalantly turn down the field trip.
