Cassandra’s Insult

Maya's POV

"Good morning, Maya!" Jocelyn greeted me.

"Hello, Jo, it is indeed a beautiful morning!" I replied and I am beaming at her.

"Wow, I am happy for you, Maya, don't get mad, but I heard rumors and I know it wasn't a rumor anymore since Beatrice told me about the whole incident. Adonis hit Chris for kissing you? That news travels faster than lightning, and all the girls in San Antonio are jealous of you." She declared, and I raised my eyebrow.

"And why is that?" I inquired.

"Because Adonis Monleon is in love with you." She spoke, and I blushed.

"So, are you dating now?" She asked, and I nodded and smiled at her, and my friend screamed. And the older farmhands are looking at us, even though they are busy with pulling out of the weeds.

"Sorry!" Jo yelled, and I giggled, and we go back to our assigned work for the day. I don't feel tired at all, being Adonis's girlfriend makes me became stronger, well, I can tell for the past days I have been so down because I thought, Adonis doesn't want me, but it was all because of her mom, and I wish Madam Kriselda will change her mind and she will give us her blessings to be together. My back aches, but I am still excited to meet Adonis, and I am shocked to find him surrounded by all my friends, and I wonder what is going on.

"Hey! Babe, we all decided to go to the mall and watch a movie, are you in?" He asked, and I don't want to tell him I can't since I require preparing dinner, and I didn't inform Mary that I will go out with him, and with our allies. And the mall is in the city, it takes almost one and a half-hour drive.

"I'd love to, but I need to go home." He put his fingers on my mouth, and I stop talking.

"I have it covered, Babe, I already asked your sister to look after your grandparents, and don't worry Rosa prepared dinner for your family and the driver will deliver the food later since I instructed them. It should be warm." He spoke, and I am always touched by his generosity.

"But I need to change first." I answered.

"Of course, we will drop by at your house." He responded and pulled my hand in going to his car, and out of the corner of my eye I saw John looking at us with pain on his face, but he quickly looked away, while Chris is all smiles, even though I still feel guilty about what happened to him. I can tell he helped me to win Adonis's heart, and I desire to thank him for sacrificing his handsome face for my sake.

"So, no one is riding with us?" I inquired.

"No, it seems like they know I have to claim my prize tonight that is why they all wish to ride with Rich." He said, and I can't stop my heart from hammering and I felt so excited, and I desire to play innocent for what he means.

"What do you mean prize?" I inquired innocently.

"Well, you told me last night I can kiss you today, so I am going to collect it now, and some later." He replied and without warning, he kissed me on the lips and I realize I blushed, it was only a quick peck, but enough for me to have butterflies on my chest, and I need to kiss him more, but I realize all our friends are waiting for us. He let me go and drives the car with a wide smile on his face.

"Wow! I prefer kissing you, Maya, and to be honest, I don't wish to stop kissing you, I worship the taste of your lips, and the way you kissed me back is telling me you are hungry for more but don't worry, Babe we have all the time later tonight." Adonis said, and I can't hold myself from smiling because I have heard the stories of my classmates talking about having a date at the cinema, and they were all saying about the kiss than the movie. And it seems I am going to experience it tonight, and I couldn't be more excited.

We eat dinner at a fancy restaurant, and I am so happy that I am with him. I am seated next to Adonis, while Ariana is on my left, and she is located next to Rich, and followed John while Lisa settled herself at the head of the wooden table she looks like our Queen. While across us are Beatrice, Chris, Jake, James, and Adrian. I find it fascinating that Adonis and Rich argued about paying the bills since both wanted to settle for the total bill we incurred.

"Just let me settle the bill, okay?" Jake said, and we all focus our attention on him.

"I know I don't have a girlfriend here with me, but still, I also want to pay for the meal since I am enjoying it today because for the first time my dear cousin, Adonis Monleon finally got a girlfriend. I realize you ever hate girls who showed interest in you, but it seems there is always an exception to every rule." Jake said, and I blushed because I know what Jake means they all realize I like Adonis ever since I can remember, but now that I am Adonis's girlfriend I am not ashamed anymore since he punched Chris for me, what he did is more embarrassing than what I did.

"Well, that is settled then, but for the record, I wish to tell everyone, I also like Maya from the time she saved my sister from drowning, I don't wish to admit it, but what she did to my sister make me like Maya, and I admire her heroism since I am her boyfriend now, I don't need to lie anymore." He said, and I am shocked about his confession, I thought he hates me that day, then I felt his palm caressed my hand under the table, and I can't stop myself from grinning.

"Wow! That is something, Adonis, and I hope you have been true to yourself years ago. At least Maya didn't suffer so much from your arrogance." My best friend, Lisa, countered.

"Yeah, how I wish Lis, but there is a saying that goes "It is better late than never" right, babe?" He spoke and asked me, and I just nodded, for I felt so happy at the moment.

"That is sweet, and I think we should do this again on Valentine's Day, but we need to hurry, we better get going now, or else we don't have a choice but to wait for the last full show." Rich said, and we all acknowledged and Jake paid the bill. Adonis bought popcorn while Rich paid for our drinks, and I am so excited to see the movie.

We all agreed to watch a horror film, and I am not afraid of anything, but it seems like it is nice to pretend that I am scared. Because every time I screamed with Lisa and Ariana Adonis takes me in his muscular arms. And he steals kisses from me from time to time that makes my entire body felt so warm, and I love every minute I spend with him. I think I am going to have a sore throat because of my shouting episodes, and we all had fun. The time the movie ended we went out, and my friends went to the restrooms and Adonis excuse himself, so I walk ahead of them, and I waited for my companions at the lobby theater, and my eyes widened when I saw Cassandra Montemayor striding towards me together with her wealthy allies.

"Well, well, well, look who is here? The little slut of San Antonio, look at her dress obviously faded and old, aren't you ashamed of yourself? You are dating Adonis Monleon and you looked like a rag?" She said and her friends laughed with her. And I never feel so little of myself, and I am trying my best to contain my tears.

"Do you realize she is working the farm of Rich, and she is seeing the hot, and the heir of the Monleon and Buenavista empire, you think Adonis is serious about you? He doesn't know how to love Maya, I recognize you have a face, but your status will never be enough to the community that he belonged. He needed someone like me and know your place. Aren't you ashamed of yourself that he is being laughed at in our society because of you?" She continued, and I want to run, but I can't since I felt so humiliated, and I hate to accept that some of her words were true. I saw people were looking at us now, and her friends continue to support her by saying yes. And before I can move, I sensed muscular hands captured my waist and I perceive he is embracing me from behind.

"Stop it, Cassandra, what kind of society are you talking about? We don't belong to the same community because I am not like you, Maya may be poor, but she is more human than you, she is kind, generous, and the most hard-working young woman in the entire San Antonio, she is maybe wearing an old dress, but for me, she is the most beautiful young woman in San Antonio and the only girl who captures my heart." Adonis declared and Cassandra's eyes turned so big.

"I love everything about her, and she is smarter than you are, and the most down-to-earth person I know, and you know what? I can never go for someone like you, Cassandra because you are a hypocrite and the most self-centered woman I know." He added, and I can tell he made Cassandra so angry.

"She is going to pay for what you have done to me, Adonis, we are not finished, and I just want to remind you, you will always be mine." She spoke and turned her heels away from us, and when I looked around, I saw our friends on the sideline watching the whole show.

"Wow! It implies you are now part of the soap opera, Adonis, it shows your life has been full of drama lately." Jake said, and I felt he was trying to lighten the mood, and I am just glad Adonis was there to protect me since I don't have any idea how to handle Cassandra. I realize he insulted her, and I am certain she will get back at us. She deserved it for insulting me. Her words hurt me, and I am still in pain, but Adonis's words lifted my spirit, and even though I am hurting inside, he makes me believe everything will be alright.
