Protecting Her

Adonis's POV

I am so happy now that Maya became my girlfriend, but I can't stop myself from being apprehensive about my mother's warning, but there is a part of me that tells me she is my mom, and I am still confident she won't hurt Maya. I care for her because she is my mother, but I don't know how I am going to handle it if she is going to harm the woman I care for.

"Hey, it looks like you are so cheerful now." My sister said the moment she gets inside my room, and I felt so elated that she came around.

"So, am I forgiven?" I asked.

"How could I not forgive you, you are my only brother and I love you, no matter how much I despise you for hurting my best friend, you know I can't get angry with you for a long time, maybe because we are twins." She said, and she sits on the edge of my bed. She looks so beautiful wearing an elegant light blue mini dress.

"Thank you." I replied.

"You could have told me everything, Adonis, I know our mother will always dictate our lives, once we are under her roof, she will not rest until we will follow all her wants. It seems to me, she doesn't care about how we feel, she only thinks about what society thinks. We are her children, how could she treat us like we are her employees." She said and I understand what my sister means.

"I hate her, Adonis, for making you suffer, you don't need to tell me everything, but I recognize she was behind all of it. When you asked my permission to court Maya, I perceive you were sincere that time, and it made me wonder why you suddenly have a change of heart." She looked at me and I sit beside her.

"Yeah, I don't wish to tell you since I don't want you to detest her more, but it seems you already know everything. She said she is going to take Maya's scholarship if I am going to continue to be with her." I declared.

"Oh, no! How could she be so cruel, Adonis? I couldn't believe she is our mom. I guess she is doing all this for what is best for you, but what she didn't understand she is hurting you. Why she wants you to be with Cassandra? Because she belongs to the Elite family? So, what if Maya is poor? It doesn't matter because you love each other, besides you will be the one who will provide for her because you are the man." She declared, and I felt she wishes to release all her frustrations about our mother.

"Exactly, I don't know what to do just to convince her that Maya is the only girl I love, and I want. I felt she thinks I am not old enough to realize what is real love means, but I recognize how I feel towards your best friend, Ariana, I love her so much, and I need to protect her, but I can't stay away from her." I said, and my sister laughs that made me so confused.

"Why are you laughing, I don't think I say something funny, I am serious, Ariana." I added.

"Well, I just couldn't believe that one day my arrogant brother will confess his feelings towards the girl he hated the most, I notice you only showed your arrogance towards her, but I felt deep inside you are good at heart. I just wonder why you only established that behavior to Maya, and sometimes I doubt if you have a split personality." She said, and I looked at her in the eyes.

"I know what you mean, I have been harsh with her for years since I can remember it was all because I want her, and it made me realize it was my defense mechanism since mom already brainwashed my mind to never become close to someone who is poor as Maya, and I hate her for making me believed she was right. I never get close to the girl I like for a long time. I wasted too much time." I answered.

"Hey, it is not, too late brother, you have still so many years ahead of you, you have all the time to fill up all the times you didn't show your genuine feelings for her. And now that you are official, I guess this is the moment you have to show off what you've got." She spoke, and I smiled at her.

"Yeah, you are right. Thank you, Ariana, for always being there for me." I declared.

"Of course, that is what twins are for." She said, and she put her head on my shoulder.

"Can we watch a movie later? I mean, after Maya's off?" She asked, and I can tell she is already excited about her plan, and once she has something on her mind, she won't rest until I will say yes.

"I don't know, you realize she is always busy." I replied.

"Please, Adonis, I just want to be you guys." She declared.

"With us or with your boyfriend?" I inquired and I saw my sister blushed.

"How did you learn I already accepted Rich to be my boyfriend?" She asked, and I can tell she is a little shy about it.

"You don't need to be embarrassed about it, I saw you kissing him last night on the porch, and it seems to me, it wasn't a friendly kiss at all," I said, and she poked me in my face, and I take her hand and looked at her on the face and I can see my sister's face turned so red.

"We had a wonderful date last night, and yes, we are now officially dating, and you are not the only one who has a colorful love life, Adonis." She spoke as she gets up from my bed leading to the door.

"Wow, I am happy for you, Ariana, you realize how much I like Rich to be your boyfriend. I know, mom will approve of my best friend since he came from a wealthy family." I declared, and she turned around and faced me again.

"Adonis, don't worry about it, okay? We will just hope our mother will come around." She said.

"How I wish," I responded.

"Don't forget about our plans later, I am going to text the rest of our friends, we haven't done this for a long time." She said, and I nodded. I get up from my bed and followed her outside. I instructed the cook on duty to prepare dinner for Maya's family since I don't wish her to worry about it. Likewise, I prefer her to be happy and have time for herself.

The moment I saw her come from the back house, I can't stop myself from looking at her beautiful face, and I realize I will do everything for her. I am glad she came with us, if not, I don't have a choice, but to stay behind with her, and enjoy our time together. Wherever we are, as long as we are together, I can tell I will be contented.

We all agreed to watch a horror movie, and I realize it was the best option because every time she screamed together with Lisa, and Ariana, I have my excuse to take her into my arms. And I can steal kisses from her from time to time that drives my entire body ignites with fire, and I cherish every second I spend with her. I love the way she responded to my every kiss, and the way her head settled into my chest makes me feel so thrilled, and I want to say thank you to my sister for planning all this.

The time the movie ended, we moved out, and my companions led to the restrooms and I also get inside and asked Maya to wait in the theater lobby. When I came out looking for her, I saw Cassandra together with her friends striding towards her and I move fast towards her since I know Cassandra is going to hurt her, but I want to listen to what she wants to say to Maya.

"Well, well, well, look who is here? The little slut of San Antonio, look at her dress obviously faded and old, aren't you ashamed of yourself? You are dating Adonis Monleon and you looked like a rag?" She said and her friends laughed with her, and I saw her body stiffened.

"Do you realize she is working on the farm of the Hernandez Hacienda, and she is seeing the hot, and the heir of the Monleon and Buenavista empire, you think Adonis is serious about you? He doesn't know how to love Maya, I recognize you have a face, but your status will never be enough to the community that he belonged. He needed someone like me and know your place. Aren't you ashamed of yourself that he is being laughed at in our society because of you?" Cassandra continues to insult Maya, and I can't take it any more before she can move, I put my arms around her waist since I want to protect her and make her feel I will always be there to fight for her.

"Stop it, Cassandra, what kind of society are you talking about? We don't belong to the same community because I am not like you, Maya may be poor, but she is more human than you, she is kind, generous, and the most hard-working young woman in the entire San Antonio, she is maybe wearing an old dress, but for me, she is the most beautiful young woman in San Antonio and the only girl who captures my heart." I said, and I realize I hurt Cassandra the way her eyes widened, and she looked at us with too much hatred in her eyes.

"I love everything about her, and she is smarter than you are, and the most down-to-earth person I know, and you know what? I can never go for someone like you, Cassandra because you are a hypocrite and the most self-centered woman I recognize." I added.

"She is going to pay for what you have done to me, Adonis, we are not finished, and I just want to remind you, you will always be mine." She responded and spun her heels away from us, and I felt so worried about her words because I am sure she will talk to my mother about this.

"Are you okay, babe?" I asked her after we settled ourselves inside my car. She shifted her head and look at me in the eyes.

"As long as I am with you, there is nothing I am afraid of, thank you for standing up for me, babe, and I am sorry if I made your life like this. I implicated you in a mall scandal because of me being your girlfriend." She said, but I take her hand and hold it.

"Babe, we are on this together, and I won't let anyone insult or hurt you, you are my girlfriend now, and I will do everything to protect you." I said and kissed her knuckles, and she gives me her sweetest smile, and I drive the car thinking I dragged her into this, not the other way around.
