Chapter 41: Rewards

I have decided to upgrade my bow by dismantling the knight-grade sword I have. Also to get five peak-level master sergeant wind element cores to infuse them in the process.

Since I have the ability to use wild elements, it will be increasing my bow's strength and my battle power. If I use it correctly, it will double my battle power.

The rewards which I can get for my contribution to defending the city as a civilian will be more than enough to get the materials required to upgrade my bow.

I went to the City centre near my house the next day. Scanned my holo watch to confirm my identity and looked at the reward options I have so I can choose what I want.

I chose three high-level skills for my first-place rewards. It will take at least a week for me to memorise the mana pathways used to activate these skills and another month of practice to perfectly use it in battle.

The skills I chose were speed type, defence type and movement type.

Speed-type skills will help me to move quickly in case of any danger and to retreat. It is very tricky to use as it will increase my overall speed.

It will not only give me a boost to my speed but will also help to quickly defend or attack. The only drawback is I can't continuously use it for more than an hour without draining my mana.

Defence-type skills will help me to go into close combat with more confidence and stay in battle for a long time.

This is a fire ability skill called "fire armour". Using this skill will make the fire I create around me solidify and become a second armour. It uses very little mana and I can continuously use it for as long as I need.

Movement skills will help me to walk and run in a way that normal warriors can't.

This is a wind ability skill called wind steps which will allow me to walk or run in the air if I can use it continuously. It will also help me to dodge while in mid-air.

Using this skill, I can create a small cube in the air just below the foot of my choice and use it to jump higher or break a fall if I fall foot first.

The cube formed will be a one-meter length on all sides and will disappear after five seconds. It will be more than enough for me to stabilise and jump up or down.

I did not choose any attack-type skills as the skills provided as rewards are not rare and anyone can buy them if they have enough money from Hunter's guild.

I already have an attack-type skill called "fire strike". It is the skill I got to know from the holo watch I took from the corps when I want to hunt steel pandas. It is a fire ability skill and unique too.

I have never heard of this kind of skill anywhere. Even when I search for this skill on the net, I did not find any type of reference to it.

I have already memorised the mana pathways to activate the skill. I just have to practice it to use it. It is similar to my 'death strike' but is five times more powerful than it.

I will be able to use this skill five times before my mana is drained. I have to be careful not to use this on lower-stage monsters as it will be a waste of usage.

Once my level is increased I will be able to use these skills more frequently. Since I am just in the low-level corporal stage, I can't use it to much effect due to the amount of mana these skills need.

After I got the skills instructions and manuals on how to use them I started looking at the materials I need for the other rewards.

I got five peak-level master sergeant stage wind elemental monster cores for the sixth place, ten peak-level corporal stage wind and fire elemental monster cores for third place and a few kilograms of metal I need to upgrade my turtle armour for the ninth price.

These materials will help me to upgrade my bow and armour to the next stage and I can hunt even more dangerous monsters.

On the way back home, I bought a splitter box from Hunter's guild. Using this I can split the fire elemental monster cores I have into equal size parts and start feeding them to Serina.

Once I reached home, I used the splitter to cut the monster cores into fifty equal parts. It was simple to use the machine. Just place the core in it. Set the number of parts the core should be split into and activate.

Serina did not like to eat this mana core. But she ate it after I said that she will not get meals for the days she doesn't eat the core parts.

Serina is not very fond of eating but will eat only to keep her strength to fight in battles. If she doesn't eat, she doesn't get the strength and she can't fight. So she agreed and ate the core.

It will take more than a year time to see any results. All I have to do now is hope that this will upgrade her fire ability and keep feeding her mana cores daily.

Late in the afternoon, I took the materials I need to upgrade my bow and armour and went to Joe's shop to have him upgrade them.

He got the materials, my bow, armour and the knight-grade sword with a smile and said that he will have them ready in five days.

I had six more days to go back to hunt, so five days is not that long for me now. I spent some time with Kamran, Aisha and Kathy before coming back home.

Now I will have to concentrate on learning the new skills I got as rewards and start practising them to use them effectively. I still had six days to do that and I am sure I will be able to learn them before our next hunt.
