MISS COLD GAZE

It was the perfect opportunity for the desperate Oriel. "The cancer in my body is going to take me earlier from this world. All of this is the punishment I am getting for my sins. However, it looks like a blessing has been mistakenly delivered to me by the heavens, that's you," said the leader of a drug mafia gang, a victim of Oriel's charms. She also didn't think twice before accepting his proposal, more like an offer that was to get her immense fortune in return. "I will make sure that your remaining days will be filled with happiness." She promised the dying boss and agreed live as his mistress. She knew that he had a wife and that the relation only existed on a piece of paper. Her name was Ursula, feisty and savage spouse of the dying mafia leader, Mr. Bruce. "Let him have that young girl as a last token of joy in his numbered days. But, I want you to keep her in close scrutiny because she also has her eyes set on his wealth. See to it that she never gets what she wants." Heartbroken Ursula ordered Collin, the loyal brother of Mr. Bruce. He was appointed as a personal bodyguard for his boss's mistress, "I will be following you everywhere from now on, you will have to bear with me because your safety is now a matter of concern for my boss." Oriel refused his company with a stern denial. "Don't tell me that you are still awkward around me, it has been years," but who knew that they shared a tragic past and a passion so deep. "Take my everything in return of your love. Just never betray me, and if you do, be meticulous hiding it," reminded her of Mr.Bruce.

You don't know

Oriel gazed at him standing right before her. Her eyes were moist and her expressions were lifeless.

"Even if I'm not the most perfect person to say this but I can see clearly that you have not lived your life properly," said Collin.

Chilling air surrounded the two. Cloud of scorn encircled them. "I know why. This is because I have been deceived too many times in my life and I have still not learned my lesson. I keep end up trusting people."

"That's so like you. You really enjoy to seeing yourself the victim and believe that everyone else have wronged you," retorted Collin.

She laughed wryly and said, "Isn't that true?" She abruptly rose from her chair . "Even today, if your mother had not been around, none of this would have happened."

Collin took a step further in her direction, shortening the distance between two feet. "Then why do you even live with her?" he asked.

"Looks like someone has done some research on me but it could have been more accurate because she is the one who is living off me. And I am just too kind to let a mad old woman to live on streets. When even her own son has abandoned her. And it's a pity that she is no longer young and attractive enough to seduce another rich man."

A faint frown became visible on Collin's face. Her hostile remarks excited his fury. He approached her closer and vigorously pushed her against the wall. He grabbed both of her handcuffed wrists with force and pinned them over her head.

"You better watch your words. I'm not someone who should be listening to your nonsense right now."

She could feel his warm breath in her hers. She freed her hands with efforts and tried to push him away. She felt his chest to be warm as if the heart inside was on fire. Her heartbeat grew loud and fast.

"I know it well that you are only a dog who acts on the will of his master and that there's someone else who has immense authority over you," stated Oriel. She mustered all her strength and drove him away.

He saw in her eyes, the hatred that she harbored in her heart. He could not find the Oriel that he once loved in her, she was just a shell of her old self. He sighed with a tightened heart, walking out of the screening room.

At that moment, an officer came inside, "It has been six hours. I am saying that I am being framed. How long do I have stay here?" The officer went closer and undid her handcuffs. He handed over her belongings to her and let her walk out.

"You can go home now. You can collect your mobile phone from outside."

She was confused at the sudden change in the behavior of the officers. She grabbed her jacket and her phone that they had confiscated earlier, and came out.

While she was on her way out of the police station, one by one every staff member came and personally apologized for their conducts.

"We are really sorry to cause you so much stress, I hope that you and... sir, will forgive us for our shortsightedness."

She wondered what had suddenly changed the course of the wind. "Who is this 'sir' that you are referring to?" she inquired from the officer.

He looked at her dumbfounded, "Sir... the one who's waiting for you outside."

Oriel stormed outside in the dark. The day had already turned into night. She ran to the parking area in order to look for him. While her eyes searched everywhere, she came across a V.I.P parking spot. She could see another shimmering vehicle parked there and Collin leaned against that car, having a cigarette lit between his lips.

Oriel approached him closer. He took the cigarette between his two fingers and brought it out, releasing a small cloud of smoke out of his mouth. "Since when did you start..." Oriel was interrupted by a sudden sight that she came across: the car's backseat window had a man's figure sitting inside.

Collin tossed his cigarette on the ground and crumbled it under his boots. He opened the door to the backseat and Mr. Bruce sitting inside, smiled pleasantly at her.

"Get in! He has been waiting for a long time."

He placed one of his hand slightly under the car roof as a protective gesture. A hint of disappointment showed up on her face. Collin kept a straight face as he held the door open for her.

She pretended not to care and gracefully got inside the car. Collin shut the door of her side and waited outside, letting her alone with Mr. Bruce.

"It has not even been a day yet and we are already meeting twice," said Bruce in heavy voice.

Oriel looked at him in eyes and said, "I am embarrassed to show my face to you. I can't be more pathetic for coming to a party where I was never invited to, and I am more pathetic for wearing your wife's clothes."

"I heard about what happened from my friend. I am really sorry that you had to go through so much because of my psycho wife. You can say that I'm more embarrassed to face you right now," said Mr. Bruce. "And as for that stupid dress, I believe that I did not even notice what you were wearing last night. Your smile is blinding enough, one can't spare another lethal glace at your outfits," Mr Bruce sounded solemn and serious while commenting this.

Oriel looked at him in an awkward way, "Eww!" she exclaimed. "I can see that you are really bad at complementing and making pick up lines."

Mr. Bruce couldn't control his laugh at what she just said. "But I always believed that flirting is what I am best at."

Oriel shook her face in disagreement, while trying contain her laugh in her mouth. "Please never do that again."

"Okay. I won't." They laughed looking at each other. "By the way, I am really grateful for what you did for me."

Oriel contorted her face in confusion, "What did I do to deserve this thanks?" she asked.

"Well, you didn't give them my number or my whereabouts when they asked you."

"But I couldn't have possibly done that. How would I be aware of your whereabouts and I don't have your number as well," said Oriel.

Oriel's phone resting in her jacket, suddenly rang up. "You have my number now!" said Mr. Bruce.

She was driven to bewilderment by him and couldn't believe the realness of the moment. Her eyes were wide opened in surprise. She was speechless to say another word.

"Why are you so surprised? I think I don't completely suck at flirting."

She was struck by his charms and was left in awe. Standing outside the car, Collin felt a hole inside his heart, seeing the two pair of eyes lost in each other.
