Chapter 55

Lighting struck against Axel's barrier. Axel braced himself as he put more effort to stop the attack. The lightning dissipated but the fact remained that Axel could get worn down by repeated strikes.

Nine aimed at the twins since he knew that Axel would save them and make sure that they don't die. This strike also let him test the strength of Axel's barriers.

With this in mind, Nine quickly went on the offensive again, unleashing another lightning strike. Axel made a barrier to block it, feeling the strain of stopping the attack. It was way stronger than the previous strike.

As he blocked the attack he quickly made a rectangular prism barrier around the twins, carrying them away from the fight.

The twins watched as they saw themselves get further and further away, seeing Axel's back getting smaller and smaller, looks of fear for Axel's safety on their faces.

" That's good. They're gone, I can now focus my attention solely on you. " Nine said as he looked at Axel.

Axel looked at Nine who let down 3 lightning strikes at once straight towards Axel. Axel looked at the lighting strikes and created barriers to block them. He grits his teeth as he held them back.

He could feel the strain getting stronger. He was losing stamina quickly from the strikes and the fact he still needed to get the twins to the base. His eyes widened as he looked at the hydras that came towards him.

" Should you have really focused on the hydra compared to a bolt of lightning?! " Nine yelled.

Axel's eyes widened as soon as he heard that and created a spherical barrier around him. The hydra clamped down onto the barrier, biting it hard enough to create cracks on the barrier. Inside Axel was sweating hard from over-exerting himself with the lightning.

He quickly made another barrier underneath the previous spherical barrier as a large lightning bolt slammed into his barriers. The lightning bolt tore through the first barrier and slammed into the second.

Axel felt the strain pick up. His breathing became heavy as he held up his barrier. He kept track of the twins who were still flying to the base. They could go at full speed because Axel had to focus between them and himself.

Nine on the other hand felt himself getting weaker from using his quirk. He grits his teeth from the pain as he looked at Axel, who was breathing heavily.

' Time to end this! ' He thought.

He quickly used the quirk-enhancing drug to amplify his abilities. Purple veins spread across his body as he looked down at Axel.

" The strong live while the weak perish. " He said as he used another lightning bolt.

Axel stared at this one and created multiple barriers in rapid succession, one in front of the other. He braced himself for impact.

First barrier: annihilated.

Second barrier: same as the first.

The third barrier: stopped the lightning bolt for a moment before shattering.

Forth barrier: held up longer than the third.

Fifth barrier: Held much longer than the fourth as Axel put most of his strength behind it.

* shatter *

Axel's eyes widened as he looked at the blue hue of the lightning bolt that descended towards him. The lightning bolt hit its mark, electrifying Axel.

Axel grit his teeth as he poured his strength into the barriers that he has most of the time on his body. The twins who were flying in the air watched as they started moving tours the ground, the barrier they were in disappearing as fell onto the ground. They skidded to a stop, having multiple injuries in the process.

Katsuma who noticed quickly used his quirk to heal himself and stand up. He went to his sister to heal her too.

" He's in trouble! " Katsuma yelled with tears in his eyes.

" I know. Go tell the other heroes. I'll be fine here. " Mahoro said as she sat up.

" Go!! " she yelled with fear.

Katsuma listened and started to run. When the barrier broke and headed towards the ground, something had happened to Axel. It scared them. They hoped he was alright till help arrives.

Axel though was far from okay. He managed to stop the lightning bolt from killing him but in the process, his barriers were cracked and barely held any protection. They were repairing slowly. He was exhausted.

Nine said nothing as he sent a hydra straight towards Axel. Axel tried to stop the hydra but it was futile. The barrier broke immediately and the blood was spilled.

Axel could only watch with lidded eyes as blood poured out of the wound he received when the hydra but off his arm and most of the right side of his body.

" It's over. You were strong. In our new world, you would have been one of the best. " Nine stated.

He started to fall backward as his face looked at the sky. He could barely make out what Nine had said. He looked up at the sky, seeing lightning forming above.

' I'm going to die. I'm going to die. Die. I don't want to die. I Don't Want To Die. I DON'T WANT TO DIE. '

These words played on loop in Axel's head. He watched as the lightning come closer and close towards him. He was scared.

He didn't want death.

He didn't want to die.

Mere moments before the lightning bolt struck him, yellow wisps flowed from his eyes as he acted on instinct. A thin yellow barrier spread out across the area, similar to his spherical barrier.

As the lightning bolt incident closer and closer to Axel's body, his body vanished.

* BOOM *

lightning struck the ground, blasting apart the terrain as the dust flew into the air while a scorched creator was left behind in the aftermath.

Nine's eyes widened in pure shock as he slowly turned his head behind his back to see Axel standing right there. Nine felt fear from the unknown. He didn't know how Axel was there. He used scanning, but the results didn't show anything different from before.

' How?! How are you over there?! ' Nine thought.

Axel merely stood there. He didn't move as he was too busy with something else entirely. Nine in noticing that Axel hasn't moved used a lightning strike towards Axel.

The lightning bolt hit.

It hit Nine.

" Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh... " Nine screams in pain before the lightning bolt dissipated. Nine fell to the ground but he is still breathing.

The lightning bolt had less power than before since Nine needed to preserve himself due to his sickness.

However, the lightning bolt was never redirected towards Nine. Instead, Axel and Nine switched places. Axel landed on the ground with ease.

Axel's right side then went under a change. It healed. His entire right side healed itself. There's was no longer a giant wound but instead a fully functioning right hand.

Nine got up, fueled by the adrenaline to look towards Axel. His eyes widened in shock as he watched Axel.

Axel had turned around towards him with a calm look on his face, having a small smile. In his hand though, was a miniature tornado. He played with that in his hands before stopping.

He moved his hands again but this time he had water. He took the water that was in the air and made different shapes before stopping that as well.

The ground underneath him shifted as rocks started floating in the air with sand circling Axel's figure.

Axel lifted his hands to the side. On orange light appeared, radiated by the FIRE in his hands, dancing in the palm of his hand due to the wind but was soon snuffed out.

Nine felt dear as he looked at Axel, not because of his abilities but because of Axel's current state. Axel was laughing. It started with small chuckles, before becoming louder and louder. His grin becoming wider and wider.

" That's what is. That's what I can do. " Axel said as he threw his head back, spread his arms, and looked at the sky.

" I can control everything! Anything that's inside my barriers, I can control at will!! It's my domain!! I am king here!!!! " Axel yelled in pure joy at the fact.

He soon stopped as he straightened himself and looked at Nine with a crazy expression on his face. A maniacal grin, his left eye glowing with yellow hues and his hair covering his right.

" Though I don't know if that is true yet. I haven't tested that fact, so I can't say that for certain. But luckily enough, I have a volunteer. " Axel said with a crazy smirk, staring at Nine.

Nine was afraid. On instinct, he used his quirk to command the wind to lift him and take him away from Axel. But that didn't work.

Axel appeared in front of him as he flew away, grinning widely.

" Oi, Oi, Oi. You can't leave just yet. It's because of you that I have this power, so you need to take responsibility and help me learn more about it. " Axel said.

Nine felt fear as he looked at Axel. He then felt himself get pulled straight towards the ground, smashing into it. Axel had his arm out, with a grin as Nine was dragged through the ground and his face landing in Axel's hand.

He grabbed Axel's hands to pry them off, but to no avail. He wanted to get away, so used bullet lasers at point-blank range.

The laser went towards Axel's face but the grin never faded while Nines fear increased. The lasers crewed around Axel's head, not hurting him at all.

Axel then threw Nine into the air with a little force before telephoning next to his head and kicking him in the face. Nine went flying to the side, sliding to a halt.

However, he had no injuries to speak of. He felt stronger than ever. His body didn't feel weak.

" I healed your body. Quite a useful ability isn't it. Its effect is permanent. " Axel said smirking as he looked at Nine. He had let Nine out of his barrier to test if anything healed inside his barrier would be permanent.

" I can't let you die so easily. Besides, it's time for the next test. "

Nine just looked at Axel in fear, seeing his face. But he soon watched as his face went away, overcoming darkness.

" What happened? Why is it dark?! I can't see anything!! " He yelled out. He could feel himself take his own spit in his mouth and hear things but he couldn't see.

However, it soon changed. His vision came back but everything was mute. He looked at Axel, whose mouth was moving but Nine couldn't hear a thing.

When his hearing came back, he watched as Adel laughed in pure joy with the same maniacal grin on his face.

" It's possible. I can cancel senses!! " Axel yelled. " When I took away your sight, I let you out of my domain and sight came back. The same thing happened with your hearing!! "

' Monster. ' Nine thought in pure fear.

He wanted to run. To get away from Axel. But he couldn't. His quirk didn't respond. It didn't work. He looked at the grinning face of Axel who looked at him in pure jubilation.

He could cancel quirks, just like Aizawa.

" It's like you said. The strong live while the weak perish. " Axel said with a smile to Nine.

Nine had fear etched on his face. His body was cut into multiple pieces, blood pouring out before eight burned, leaving no trace behind, while Axel just watched with a calm smile on his face.

" Sate, Sate, Sate. What should I do now? Did the others finish their fight? " Axel wondered as he turned around to walk away.

However, his body fails him and fell forward, landing on the ground.

" Oh yeah. I forgot what this feels like. Time to go into a coma. " Axel said with a smile before closing his eyes, falling asleep in the middle of the field.
