Memories of an Old Lane

"You only love me because I'm the person who got your past girlfriend's heart." Tears rolled down on her cheeks. She clutched on her left chest as her heart was aching. No, it's not her heart. She just borrowed it. She borrowed it from the girlfriend of the man she loves the most. He tried to reach for her but she just shoved his hand away. He never wanted to hurt her. He never wanted to make her cry. "Don't touch me! If you want her heart again, I will give it back to you!" He slowly shook his head, feeling his voice got stuck in his throat. He wants her to stay by his side but why can't he voice it out? "Fuyu—" "I regret loving you. I wish I just died that day."

He watched Gia remove everything that will make him remember Fuyu. It was a difficult decision for him but he already chose to move on. He knows he can't bring back the dead and as a man who works for Science, it is ridiculous for him to do supernatural things just to keep in touch with her soul. The first thing Gia did is change the bedsheets, pillow cases and blankets. He hasn't changed it since then because he wants to feel her presence when he is asleep. He feels empty now that there is a huge space beside him.

"The housekeeper will arrive here anytime soon, so get out and buy us some food if you don't want to cook." She said while taking out the laundry. He stood up from his seat and grabbed his wallet from the coffee table.

"What do you want to eat?" He asked, grabbing his keys from the divider. He checks his phone if there's any call and he is a little relieved that there is none. It means he can take a whole day of rest.

"Seafood or chicken. You know I can't eat pork or beef." She answered and they heard the doorbell ringing. It must be the housekeeper. He opened the door and his eyes widened when he saw that it was her.

"Sensei.." She mumbled and his eyes traveled from her head to toe. She got a pair of gloves, an apron and even some cleaning materials.

"You're the housekeeper?" He asked and she nodded her head. Gia peeked from the inside and she was surprised that he was right about her looking exactly like the late Fuyu.

"Hai, Sensei. I just started having a part-time job last week and fortunately, most of my tasks are light and easy." She feels bad that she didn't mention this to him.

"Come in first. Don't worry. You'll not do heavy things here. We have Sho-sensei to help us." Gia said while grinning widely at him. He rolled his eyes and went out to buy food already.

"What's your name?" The older one asked while helping her to put the cleaning materials down. She smiled at her and showed her name tag.

"Oh. You're Fuyu. I'm Gia. I'm his best friend. It's nice to meet you." Gia smiled back at her and they proceeded to the laundry room.

They finished doing the laundry first before opening the windows to dust off every inch of the place. Fuyu used the vacuum cleaner and then, when Sho got back with the food, he helped them with the curtains and carpet. He knows her condition and she is still in the recovering phase from the transplant. It's been only five months, so she still needs to be careful about doing things that include dust and dirt. The two girls talked while they were having lunch. Gia started to ask things about her studies until it led to her personal life.

"So, you're already in your second year. That's good. You can now study without any problems." Gia smiled at her and she nodded while cutting the katsu into small pieces.

"Do you have a boyfriend, Fuyu-chan?" She suddenly asked and Fuyu blushed faintly before shaking her head. He looked at her but didn't say anything.

It was already afternoon when they finished cleaning the whole place. He drove Fuyu back to her home and when he got back to his place, he glared at Gia who was watching a movie on the television. He knows she purposely asked the younger one about her lovelife. He threw his keys on the coffee table and this surprised her. She can already feel that he is in a bad mood.

"I don't like that you asked those things to my patient." He started and she rolled her eyes. She turned the television off and stood up to face him.

"She is not your patient today. She is a housekeeper. She became my friend and it is normal for us to talk about things." He realized that what she had said was right.

"Even so. I don't need to hear those things and don't get her as a housekeeper next time." He said, walking in his bedroom.

"Sho, I'm not the one who picked her. It's the manager. I just gave the company a call and they were the one who chose her to work here. I'm just helping you, Sho. Am I not appreciated here?" She asked, already on the verge of tears because she doesn't really like it when he is getting mad at her.

"You are, Gia. Look. I'm sorry. I just.. don't know what to do if you ever leave me alone with her. I badly missed her and I don't want to taint someone who only knows me as a doctor. She is a student. I don't want to ruin her future just because of my own selfishness." He answered and she immediately hugged him tight.

"It's not bad to love again, Sho. Maybe.. she is the one she sent to you." She mumbled and he released her from the hug. He slowly shook his head and sat down in the bed.

"I don't want to hurt her in case I start loving her. What if.. things happened? Will she be able to forgive me?" He asked and she didn't hesitate to nod.

"Fuyu will be happy to see you moving on and loving another person. She loved you, Sho. We need to accept the fact that she is no longer alive. I know it is difficult but take your time. You have us to help you heal." She smiled faintly and tears started to fall from his eyes.
