### Chapter 23: A New Beginning
The months following the battle with Magnus had been filled with challenges, but also with growth. Sophia and Damien had become closer than ever, their bond forged in the heat of battle and strengthened by their shared experiences. They had faced the worst the world had to offer and come out stronger for it.
Now, as the world slowly began to heal, Sophia found herself thinking more and more about the future—about what she wanted, and about the person she wanted to spend it with. There was something she had been carrying with her, a promise she had made to herself in another life. It was a promise she had never been able to fulfill, but now, with a second chance, she was determined to see it through.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the sky in shades of pink and orange, Sophia decided it was time to take a step she had been contemplating for weeks. She wanted to make her commitment to Damien official, to let him know just how much he meant to her—and to finally fulfill the promise she had made before they died in their previous lives.
With that thought in mind, she planned a special date—one that would be as unforgettable as the moment she had in mind.
Sophia arranged for a private beach, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, where they could spend the evening in peace. It was a secluded spot, surrounded by tall cliffs and lush greenery, with the gentle waves of the ocean lapping at the shore. The beach was bathed in the soft light of the setting sun, the perfect backdrop for what she had planned.
When the day arrived, Sophia and Damien drove out to the beach, the anticipation building in Sophia's chest. Damien was relaxed, enjoying the drive and the beauty of the landscape, unaware of the surprise that awaited him.
As they arrived at the beach, Damien's eyes lit up in surprise and delight. "This is amazing, Sophia. How did you find this place?"
Sophia smiled, her heart fluttering with nerves and excitement. "A little bit of research and a few favors called in. I thought we could use a night to ourselves, away from everything."
Damien grinned, taking her hand as they walked down the path to the beach. "You always know how to surprise me."
They spent the evening enjoying the beauty of the beach, walking along the shore and talking about their plans for the future. As the sun dipped lower in the sky, Sophia led Damien to a spot where she had set up a small picnic, complete with candles and a blanket spread out on the sand.
"This is perfect," Damien said as he sat down beside her, his eyes softening as he looked at her. "You always know how to make everything special."
Sophia felt her heart swell with love as she looked at him, the man who had stood by her through everything. She knew that this was the moment, the time to take the next step.
"Damien," she began, her voice steady but filled with emotion. "There's something I've been thinking about for a while now… something I want to ask you."
Damien looked at her, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. "What is it?"
Sophia took a deep breath, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small velvet box. She opened it to reveal a simple but elegant ring, the band a delicate twist of platinum with a single, brilliant diamond at its center.
"I love you, Damien," she said, her voice trembling slightly with the weight of the moment. "You've been my partner, my best friend, and my rock. We've been through so much together, and I can't imagine my life without you. Before we died in our previous life, I was going to ask you this, but… we never got the chance. So now, I want to do what I never got to do before."
She looked deep into his eyes, her heart pounding with love and anticipation.
"Damien, will you marry me?"
For a moment, there was only the sound of the waves and the gentle breeze. Damien stared at the ring, his eyes wide with surprise and emotion. Then, a slow smile spread across his face, his eyes shining with happiness.
"Sophia… yes," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Yes, of course I'll marry you."
Sophia felt a surge of joy as she slipped the ring onto Damien's finger, her heart pounding with happiness. Damien pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her as if he never wanted to let go.
"I can't believe you beat me to it," Damien murmured against her hair, his voice filled with laughter and love. "I was going to propose to you."
Sophia laughed, her eyes brimming with tears of happiness. "I guess I just couldn't wait."
They spent the rest of the evening wrapped in each other's arms, talking about their future and the life they would build together. The world around them faded away, leaving only the two of them and the promise of a new beginning.
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, Sophia knew that this was just the start of their next adventure—one that they would face together, hand in hand.
And as they looked out over the ocean, their hearts full of love and hope, they knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, as partners for life.
