Chapter 10

Back to Mary:

I tried to slow our fall but I had used up to much power already. I felt Peter holding onto me as we tumbled through the air. Just as I had given up someone caught us. I glanced down to find Hulk holding us as he lowered us slowly to the ground.

"You ok?" He asked changing back to Bruce

Peter nodded but I was still in shock. Tears glazed my eyes and I began to cry. I ran away from them. I knew Peter was following me. I didn't want to be followed so I took over his mind. I made him walk away back to Bruce. My feet pounded the concrete as I ran. I made my way off Avenger's property and wandered the streets. After walking for a long time I found myself in front of the donut shop Peter had taken me to. I sat near the door not wanting to enter but not wanting to leave. Soon they closed and MJ walked out. She glanced around and spotted me sitting there. I tried to duck out of sight but she grabbed me firmly by the wrist.

"Let me go." I panicked "Please let me go."

She reminded me too much of my bully from elementary school. She was the first person I harmed through my powers. Later that night I had destroyed the house. MJ let go and I realized I had sent an electric charge to her.

"I'm sorry." I said, "I didn't mean to."

"You have powers?" she asked

"Yeah, why did you think they would want me for the Avengers?"

"You work for the Avengers?"

"That's how Peter knows me but I don't anymore."

"What do you mean?"

"Did you see the news a few days ago?" She nodded "I had to take care of the ones who survived. I hadn't slept and got lightheaded. I was knocked unconscious. My powers went haywire destroying the mansion. I can't stay with them. It's not worth risking their lives."

"What do you mean risking their lives?"

"I've done it before, on accident and on purpose. I've killed using my powers. I can't control them half the time. I wouldn't want to kill one of them."

"you could protect them though right?"

"No. I've tried. I killed my parents after collapsing our house. I didn't mean to. I tried to save them."

I began to cry. She tried to comfort me but it wasn't working.

"Please just leave me alone," I said through tears

She nodded and left. I sat in the small alleyway between buildings crying until I had no more tears in my eyes. I heard someone calling my name and glanced up to find Peter standing in front of me MJ behind him.

"Sorry." She said "I know you wanted to be alone. I found him searching for you so I brought him here."

"Thank you," I said and she left us alone

Peter's first action was to hug me. He pulled me into him and seemed to not want to let go. When he finally did he spoke.

"MJ told me you want to quit. Is that true?"

I nodded "I don't want to put you in danger."

I started to cry again and he lifted my chin and kissed me.

"Trust me you won't put me in danger."

"You don't understand. I've killed. You're all innocent."

"I do understand. You showed me. I know what you've done and I know you regret it."

"I killed on purpose, Peter. Killing my parents was no accident. Those two girls were sent to the hospital. Guess who killed them. Me. I was never a hero. That girl I had you all convinced was my sister was just another victim of my wrath."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying that beast that killed the Avengers. I sent after them. I knew they wouldn't be able to defeat it. I have a long list of kills. Whats one more?"

I reached out and touched his skin draining his lifeforce. He collapsed on the ground dead. I put back on my act and left the ally alone.
