CHAPTER 15

Rita's POV

I looked at the file my private investigator gave me.

Coralline Scott

24 years old

Works as a reporter at Daily News firm

Lived in an orphanage for six years.

So she's a low life and Damon is into

her. What does she have that can benefit Damon? Something quite interesting caught my eye.

Her ex is about to get engaged to her former best friend. That's interesting, I think I'm not the only one who hates her. Seems like I'd be giving someone a surprise visit.

Damon's POV

'Our parents were really close friends. They did everything together, they even started a business together and the business boomed.

My dad was the president while yours was the vice. They were gaining much profits but there was someone who was jealous of their success, my dad's PA.'

I stopped to see if she was listening, she was very attentive but confused. So I continued.

'He tried to turn them against each other but he couldn't, they were that close, at that time we were still teenagers. So he came up with the perfect plan, he planned with some rivals and they started removing money from the company's pocket.

They even went to the extent of loaning money from banks using the company's name. The stocks were dropping and shareholders were withdrawing, the company was at the verge of closing down.'

'Your mom was a Chef then. So to help, she sold her eatery and gave the money to your dad. The money went a long way and stabilized the company but shareholders began to doubt my father.

His secretary had bribed them already so they asked him to step down and give the presidency post to someone with equal amount of shares. Apparently, the secretary had bought many shares'

'To help, your father agreed with mine to merge their shares. Since their shares were under our name, they planned to get us married.'

She looked at me like I'm crazy. 'How old were we then?' She asked

'You were 12 while I was 15' I answered

'When did this happen?'

'Twelve years ago. The plan went on fine, we did court marriage. Tragedy struck, when we were coming back from the court we were involved in a motor accident. Our parents died but we survived'

Coralline's POV

I couldn't believe all he said. I stared at him in denial.

'I don't believe it, why are you telling me this now? If it was true, why didn't you come find me since? why now huh?' I asked

'I searched for you all over but we were separated after I took you to the hospital because you fainted.' He said

'But you could have still tried'

'I did and I found you, didn't I? I know you won't believe me, come I need to show you something' he said and led me to his office.

He picked up a file and handed it to me. I opened it and saw it was the marriage certificate between him and Charlotte.

I was hurt, how could he show me this? What is he trying to prove?

I stared at him angrily and asked 'what is the meaning of this?'

'Relax and read it first, don't just jump into conclusions' he said

I glanced at the paper angrily and saw a picture at the bottom. It was a boy and girl probably in their teenage years.

They were holding each other smiling. What baffled me was that the children looked familiar like the ones in my dream.

'Is this really you?' I asked Damon shakily

'Yes, what's wrong?' He asked

I felt a migraine and held my head. Different images flashed in my head, I couldn't control it. I held my head and screamed as all the memories started rushing in at once.

I heard Damon's faint voice calling me. More images kept coming in and when I couldn't bear it, I blacked out.
