Chapter 22: Of Mice and Men

Sam's POV

Ophelia slipped from the lecture hall out the side door. She barely granted him a sidelong look before she disappeared behind the heavy wooden door.

"You've smelled it, too," Dr. Stravato accused, voice lowering to barely above a whisper.

"I need you to be more specific, Lisa. We're shifters, there's a lot of smells on this campus," Sam warned, tone level.

He was struggling to determine exactly what she was implying. Sam had probably nearly given away his relationship with Ophelia, one he wasn't ready to reveal just yet. However, it seemed Dr. Stravato had also picked up that there was something sinister on campus.

"The rotten smell," she hissed. "I catch whiffs of it every now and then. Sometimes, it's stronger than others. I have to know what's causing it."

"Do you smell it on Miss Roberts?" Sam asked carefully.
