Chapter 48: Battle For Denhurst
I ran to the security system monitor and saw the yard and woods seemed eerily empty and silent. “How close are they?” I asked.
“Close,” Ash replied. “Dierk and Finn were on their way to the Shaw’s land to check on them, and they spotted them entering our woods from Foxtail Ridge. They hurried to the old Martin farm and borrowed Manny Martin’s truck. They broke the speed limit getting here, but they managed to give us a few minutes’ warning.”
“Alert everyone,” Grey ordered. “Tell them to gather outside near the patio.”
With my stomach in knots, I watched Ash and Lily hurry out of the room and heard them knocking on bedroom doors.
Even though I knew this battle was coming, I was terrified now that it was here. My mind spun with dark scenarios.
What if we lost? What if our friends were killed? What if Grey were killed? My entire life could change this morning. My own life could end on the battlefield!
