The Determination

Linri was surprised to hear that question from Brie. According to what Linri knew Jaime and Brie were supposed to be inseparable and as close as real siblings.

"You are asking me?"

Linri looked towards Jaime and saw the ugly expression her face. She didn't seem to have any faith in him and seemed to think he was gonna spill the beans.

"I'm not keeping anything from you. Why would you believe his nonsense?" Jaime said angrily.

"Really? From what I see he doesn't seem to be the type to spout nonsense though?" Brie answered Jaime and Linri could see the distrust she held towards Jaime.

The situation was getting out of Jaime's control and she did not seem to know what to do.

"Okay. Do you really wanna know?" asked Linri towards Brie.

"Brie don't believe him. He is a compulsive liar and if not for the pay I wouldn't even have accepted his job." said Jaime panicking.

Linri's anger was almost at the boiling level. Why was Jaime trying to discredit Linri so much? Did she think he would really tell Brie everything?

"Yes"

"Okay then listen to me carefully -"

"Stop!" shouted Jaime towards Linri and got up and slammed the table.

Linri finally had it. He was not going to humour Jaime any more.

"Shut up for a second and let me finish!" Linri shouted back and glared fiercely towards Jaime.

Thankfully it was still early hours and the shop did not really have a lot of people but the people there still gave them looks wondering what was going on.

Seeing the commotion a waiter came and asked if there were any problems.

"I'm really sorry. Me and my girlfriend were having an argument so we did not really notice we were making a scene. So sorry this happened. It won't happen again. Right?" said Linri and looked towards Jaime. She just gave a nod and did not say anything else. Hearing that it was a lovers argument waiter did not say much and nicely reminded them to be more aware of where they are in the future.

The main reason of the argument, Brie was just sitting there and looking towards them. She never saw her big sister lose her calm like this before. The Jaime she remembered was always calm no matter the situation.

"Okay, where were we? Yes, I remember. Brie if you really wanna know what she is not telling you, you have to ask Jaime yourself. Because unlike what certain somebody thinks I am not somebody 'despicable enough to betray my 'dear' friends. Still, now that She angered me this much and I am such a 'despicable' guy let me give you a hint. From the moment we stepped into this pastry 'every' single thing she told you was a lie. Now the ball is on your court play however you like. If you need anything I will be outside" Linri left enough money to pay for their orders and got out of the pastry.

He walked to a bench near the store and sat down. Thinking about what had transpired. No matter which angle he thinks from it did not make any sense. Why would Jaime suddenly turn so hostile? Was it because of yesterday? It was unlikely but he couldn't ignore the possibility.

After 15 minutes Linri calmed down but still felt that the treatment he got was unjust. Even if Jaime wanted to keep Brie from going to Autumnfall she did not need to insult him like this. She made him feel like he was just an object that could be thrown out the moment it was not useful any more.

"Big Brother?" Linri heard Brie's voice so he turned around to see Brie looking at him with her big purple eyes.

"What?" Linri wasn't in the mood to talk to her so he didn't care about how rude he sounded.

Brie was not expecting this hostile reaction but she still continued to talk.

"Well, can you come inside so that we can talk about what happened?"

"What does that have to do with me? Didn't I already say that the matter was between you two?"

"Just come inside, please, it is really uncomfortable to talk here" said Brie.

"Fine" said Linri and followed her inside. He really was not in the mood to talk but he did not want to take it out on the innocent girl in front of him.

After he sat down in the table again Brie took the initiative to talk.

"You see, after a discussion with big sister we came to a conclusion. She doesn't want to tell me whatever the subject is but she agreed that you can tell me. So well, would you?" said Brie while squirming.

"Is that so?" Linri looked towards Jaime who averted her eyes.

"Jaime let me tell you something. In life, there is something called destiny. No matter how you want to prevent something if it's bound to happen it will happen. You can not change that." He did not wait for her reply and turned towards Brie and continued talking.

"As for you, there are some things people wish they never learned and this matter is exactly like that. What I am going to say is the truth and the truth only. You can not question me, you can not cut what I am saying or anything of the sorts. I am already in a bad mood so I don't want to deal with your childish tantrums once this is over.

Now that we got the less important stuff out of the way let's start with the introductions. You can call me Linri, an info broker of some sort. You don't really need to introduce yourself to me as I know everything about you Brissa 'Brie' Alcatraz. Born in 1998 on the 3rd of May. No relatives. The sole survivor of the ancient Alcatraz Magus family. When 10 all the other members of the family were found dead. The case is thought to be a home invasion. You miraculously survived as during the ordeal you were outside playing with others. After the incident, you claimed that your brother, whose body was missing, still alive. Is there anything wrong so far?"

"No" replied Brie. Since she saw how Jaime worked she knew that it was easy to get this kind of knowledge with a little digging around.

"Good. Once your family died you were placed in the St. Olga orphanage where you were deemed as a troublemaker. Eventually, you were transferred to another one then another one. Till today you have been to 7 different orphanages. Impressive. During your time at the Red Cross orphanage which was the third orphanage, you have been through you met Jaime Voxx. Later on, your relationship got better and better eventually leading to both you regarding each other as sisters. Anything wrong so far?"

"No" Brie still replied monotonously.

"Good. Now let's come to the part what I found out about you. As I mentioned before you are from the Alcatraz family. Even though they were not regarded as remarkable in the last 3 generations they were still a magus family. So you have magician blood running within you but as you were too young at the time you still had not started your formal training as a magician. After the incident you started to practice magic on your own but as you had no one to guide you most of the time your magic gone haywire which led people to believe you were a troublemaker. They thought that the damage caused by your magic was actually done by you. Now that I think about it that might also be considered the truth but that's beside the point. Eventually, through trial and error, you created your original magic. 'Blockz' such a childish name I might add. When using it you can create 2 cubes one of which is white while the other one is black. White one can be used for defence and simple healing while the black one is for attacking. I still don't know the effects of the black one as you still have not used it to attack anyone yet. Again is anything wrong so far?"

"No" this time Brie was actually astonished as Linri was telling him things she didn't even tell Jaime about.

"Okay, now we are coming to the interesting part. Again are you sure you want to know? It involves that incident and you might wish you never learned about it again" asked Linri

Brie this time decided to think about it a little. If it was before she would have just scoffed at his remark but seeing how he even knew about her magic Brie hesitated. It was probably true and she might really want to forget what he was gonna say yes but it involved her family's death. She had to know.

So Brie looked at Linri with determination on her eyes and simply said "Yes!"
