Lucky Girl

Silence engulfed the building, only the slight sound of breathing, and dripping could be heard. The building itself was unrecognizable, the previous trauma it experience caused it to cave in, rubble and pieces of other buildings had also fallen on top of it.

A creature that looked like it came from the depths of the abyss trotted around inside, silently looking for something, or someone.

It looked to be completely black, it was covered in something, not scales or fur, but neither skin. Its claws scraped against nearby objects, as if teasing its prey.

The 'prey' in question had their mouth covered, and was shaking in fear behind the counter.

'Please leave. Please leave. Please leave.'

They looked up and closed their eyes, as if they were hoping to escape from the situation this way. Every time the creature scraped its claws, creating a high-pitched scratching, they would shiver.

This person was Alex, who now wished to cry out at least once before she died. She was too careless, maybe she should have waited a bit longer for rescue before coming here.

Where was she?

The nearby convenience store, it was small but had food, and hadn't been ransacked yet, well... she wasn't sure there was anyone daring enough to even take a step out of their safe place.

There isn't a really dramatic reason for why the creature had come, she told her brother to wait outside, in a hiding place of course. And she had simply walked inside, she began to take supplies before she heard footsteps. Then, doing what any normal person in a ruined world where they could die at any moment from a monster or human. She hid.

Kudos to her, because it was not her brother. It was just a horrible creature that was probably sadistic in some way, though she hoped that she wouldn't find out wether it truly was... sadistic.

It seemed to be toying with her, and that was enough for her to realize that it was probably intelligent. Smart things are dangerous, because they have desire. Which means that desire might just be the want to hear the screams of pain of other beings. Another reason was that she could hear a distorted giggling, as if it was enjoying the situation.

But these thoughts passed by only in a short second, because what she really was focused on, wasn't trying to make an escape plan, or a way to fight back, she was just listening closely to its footsteps, hoping that it wasn't nearing her.

As a famous person once said (or should have said because this sounds like some good advice) "Though you can't tell the future, in any situation you should think ahead, because even if the situation ends up different. At least you have a plan." -Someone

That aside, Alex could see her life flashing before her eyes. But was interrupted by a ridiculous though, one that seemed outrageous and self-centered.

'God I hope I'm a protagonist.'

'It would be funny though, right? Like, someone comes to save me... cause you know, protagonists can't die... haha...'

'What if my brother comes to save me... no way... and then he...'

'might die...'

She promised to herself secretly that she would protect her brother, but look at her now. Even after thinking of a situation where her brother might die, she still could not bring herself to do anything.

But before she could even let another though cross her mind.

Bam!

Something fell.

Right.

Next.

To.

Her.

Right next to her. Next to her? Something fell right next to her?

She shakily looked in the direction of the fallen object, it was a money jar, though she doubted money would be of use anymore now that the world basically ended. Wait, no, that's not the point.

Something fell next to her, now if she was that monster what would she do?

Of course she would go in the direction of the sound.

But she's not that monster, she's the person hiding from that monster. So the situation didn't look good for her. And so what did she do? She fucking booked it outta there.

'Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck I'm Dead I'm sooo fucking dead.'

She was going to die, and she was not ok with that.

Tears began to stream down her eyes, she ran without looking back, but she could tell clearly that it was following her.

At the very least the monster let her shed a tear.

The creature behind her giggled, it sounded like that of a child's. It's giggling prevented her from thinking straight. She imagined the ways that it would kill her, maybe it would keep her alive long enough to hear her screams, or something worse.

But something interrupted her spiral of thoughts.

A sound.

Kind of like… shouting?

He legs were starting to feel heavy, actually, her entire body was feeling heavy. Her ankle was starting to hurt, maybe she twisted it when she stood up to run. She didn't want to die, she wanted to live. She wanted someone to save her.

If…

If she lives…

She wants to become stronger. Strong enough to protect her brother. Strong enough to defeat anything that stands in her way. She wanted to be strong, like… a king.

Alex tripped, it wasn't painful falling, actually she felt relieved.

Now she can just sleep.

In peace…

"Ms. Ana I think I see someone."

Josh's pupils shrunk as he tried to see ahead.

"Let's hurry I think something's chasing them." Ana ran past him, and unsheathed her weapon.

It was a bastard sword, it wasn't special in any way, and looked like a sword you'd see in stories.

Though the sword looked common, its wielder was anything but normal.

Ms. Ana had maroon hair, though you could tell the dye was fading by the black hairs on the top of her head. Her red eyes glimmered in sunlight, and her slightly tanned skin added to her pleasant look.

In just a couple seconds she was already in front of the creature, without hesitation she swung her sword, the black creature cried in agony as its body was sliced cleanly in half.

"Tch as expected it's too weak."

She disappointingly looked at it, red blood and organs spilled out, but the sight didn't faze her as she had seen worse. Her gaze moved from the corpse over to the girl.

The girl had black hair, her skin was barely visible through the dirt and scratches, and she had a peaceful look on her face, as if she was simply taking a nap.

"Is she dead?" Josh, who had just caught up looked at the girl while wiping his sweat.

"Not dead, but probably in shock." Ana kneeled down and checked her body.

She picked the girl up with ease, "Let's find somewhere to lay her down, maybe her parents are around here somewhere."

"She must had saved the world in her past life or something, lucky girl. Thankfully we arrived seconds before disaster." Josh followed the woman, trying to start up conversation.

"If she had saved the world she wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place." Ana said as she walked into a broken building.

"Oh, maybe it's because she was looking for food." Ana looked around, spotting a basket on it's side with goods spilled on the floor.

She scanned the store, trying to find somewhere to lay the girl down. Finding a spot, she laid the girl down gently.

"Does she need a healing potion?"

Ana unbuttoned the girl's shirt before feeling around her body. Finally, she stopped at her ankle. "Her ankle's twisted but it should heal on it's own." She removed the shoe and sock, checking the bone for any fracture.

"Some gauze and cold cream." She held out her hand, waiting for Josh to take them out.

"Mkay." He put down the backpack he was carrying, and rummaged through it before pulling out those two items and placing them in Ana's hand.

She silently applied the cream on the girl's ankle before wrapping it in gauze to prevent the cream from rubbing on to other surfaces.

"Now we wait." Ana crossed her legs and closed her eyes, resting her head on her hands.

I did some of this in class. Praise me please!
