Warning I lost most of my work for this, just the writing would have sucked but I also lost my huge amount of planning and its too much work to try and rebuild what I was writing, so I’ve stopped writing this and started a new novel. 01 24 - It Was Never an Accident

After abruptly leaving the game, I was now sitting in the familiar bus that took me down town. Even though it was quiet late, there was still many people around the city walking around.

Though once it becomes winter, it would surely less than the amount of people that are walking around at night, but for now I should try to go outside more and appreciate the fall weather.

"Though I don't really know where I would be going.."

I mumbled to myself before shaking my head. It wasn't time to be thinking about this, there's something more serious I have to hurry and do, and that's to tell detective Sang about what I found.

I finally reached the bus stop that was nearest of the police station, I hopped off quickly and began my walk to the building. The police station was a big building that was close to the soul of well, Seoul. I walked in with a small bow before going to the receptionist.

"Hello, is Detective Sang,, Yoo here?"

I asked, almost forgetting the detective's full name. They looked at me, then went on the phone before shaking their head.

"He seemed to just have gotten off work, would you like to leave a message?"

They asked, but it was something important, I didn't want to leave it off to the side any longer.

"Could you maybe call him? I'd like to tell him myself."

They looked at me weirdly at first, before deciding it probably wouldn't hurt anyone. They gave me his number on a paper, then with an opened hand, gestured towards the phone booth to the side by the waiting area.

I bowed again before walking away, pressing the numbers on the numbers pad to dial in his phone number. Then it was a moment of waiting for the man to answer the phone. I waited for a moment, before he picked up.

"Hello, Detective Sang Yoo of XXX department. Who is this?"

He asked in a swift and serious matter.

"Oh, hello it's Lee Gihyuk, and I have some,, important news I need to tell you. I'm at the police station right now."

There was silence for a moment, before I heard the engine of a car speed up.

"I'll turn around and come back, is this about what we talked about from before?"

The other asked and I gave a single yes as an answer.

"Alright, I'll get there soon so stay put."

I nodded, but then quickly said yes since he couldn't really see me nod from the other side of the phone. I ended the call then sat down at the side, waiting. The workers at the front desk looking at me time to time.

Since it was publicly announced that the death was an accident, I had a guess that the fact it could be a murder is hidden to most people, I mean that's how it usually goes in K-dramas right? Most things probably apply in real life too.

I don't really know who else I could tell about it other than Detective Sang, It would also be weird for me, who's not an actual detective to be helping out like this. Or maybe it is and I'm just being an over thinker all over again.

After a while, he reached the department and walked through the door. He looked around before finally seeing me, then made a hand gesture to come along.

"let's go, it's probably still okay to go into the office."

Now I felt kind of bad since I came when he was off, but again it was important. I followed him to the office area.

"Sorry for suddenly coming out of nowhere, especially since you're off."

He shook his hand in front of him as a no.

"You didn't know it's alright. Anyways, for now just don't say anything about the thing since it's supposed to be a closed case."

I nodded and followed along quickly, we went into one of the interrogation rooms since all the other offices had people working there. I sat down on one side and he sat across from me.

"Alright, tell me what you learned."

I nodded and began to tell him about the what I saw at the auction houses. the interaction between the two players. Then I told him about the one at the black market.

"Wait there's a black market in the game?"

I nodded before continuing about the fact that I managed to take the potion.

"I was only in the black market for a quest okay? At least I got the potion, which cost a lot. Now It's just based on the fact that if it's a OP potion, or it what's might be the reason of the death of SweetEater."

We both nodded in agreement. We had to figure out what exactly that potion was, if there's a clue that it could be what I said from before, a virus, then this case isn't a simple malfunctioned gaming device accident.

"How exactly can we figure this out though?"

I asked as I looked up at the older male, he was deep in thoughts for a moment, before seemingly reaching a conclusion.

"We can contact one of the coders and see if they can figure out what it is exactly."

He stood up and opened his phone before leaving the room. I sat there alone, now thinking, if it truly is some sort of virus, then there's people out there who clearly want to see the world burn. For them to be killing people, what kind of concept is in their heads?

He soon came back in with a scratch of his neck.

"What happened? Will they help?"

The detective sat down and nodded.

"Though they said even if the game developers let us see the codes, if it's something new especially not made by the creators of the game themselves, she can't be a hundred percent sure. She'll have to go in game to see it herself."

I looked at him confused, and he seemed to know already what I was thinking.

"It means we have to figure it out ourselves, which is clearly 10x harder than searching for a code that's already implemented into the game. Especially with a game as complicated as L.O, we'll see what happens. Though she is one of the best coders, well also hackers, It'd probably still be hard for her."

Now understanding it a bit more, something that wasn't made by the developers themselves is troubling enough. To figure out if it really is a virus would be hard to do in game.

"Are you free tomorrow? We can meet her and see how she's planning to do this exactly."

I thought about it, and I'm pretty sure it was a day off for me, so it was a yes.

"I don't have work tomorrow so I think I'm good, how will I contact you?"

The black haired man looked at me before putting his phone down.

"I'll contact you by your number. I can't let the others know I'm still trying to pry into this case since they already covered it up and considered it a close, try not to talk about it to others okay?"

I nodded and put my phone number into the other male's phone. I'm pretty sure I'm done here now.

"I'll drop you off, pretty sure the buses are off now."

I looked at the time and I didn't notice it was half an hour away from being midnight, so I just agreed for the ride. Though there was one thing that seemed to bother me, I think we forgot to talk about something.

In the car it was a little awkward, before I finally remembered.

"Wait! What do we do about the person who was given the potion at the first auction house?"

Sang Yoo looked pretty surprised about it too, I guess it flew over his head too.

"It would be good if we knew who it was, but you said it was too dark to see anything right?"

I flinched and looked down, I felt kind of dumb now.

"Hey don't worry about it, you gave enough info, let's just hope there won't be another case."

I nodded, and before I knew it I was already at home. I got out then gave him a bow.

"I'll text you when we'll meet her."

He spoke with a wave as I replied with another nod. I walked inside and took a drink from the kitchen. I feel like I'm getting deeper and deeper into this problem, but it should be alright, right? Though I don't know why exactly I'm doing this, I would rather not bother myself with these things, but at the same time, I guess it's the guilty feeling. I don't want to be left alone with the fact that I could have stopped someone's death. I feel selfish.

I drank water quietly before I heard footsteps behind me, and when I looked back, I saw Lisa.

"that was the detective right?"

Did she see? I don't want her asking questions about the cave incident.

"Why are you with him, is it because of the that incident? I thought it was just an accident."

I began to panic a little as she came closer, Lisa was smart, and right on the spot.

"There's something more isn't there, tell me what's happening."

I was very hesitant to say anything, I looked at her with wavering eyes.

"Wait, could it be?.."

To be continued...
