Gotham City's Rescue

I watch as the man throws a flare onto the boat, the boat catching on fire.

"Don't worry," he says, walking away. "It's not mine. It's Batman."

"Batman," I repeat, running to catch up with him as he walks onto the streets.

"Yeah, Batman. You know. Tall? Moody? The famous guy in the bat costume? Does any of this sound familiar?"

"I know who Batman is," I say. "What I don't know is how you got his boat."

"The funny thing about being under mind control," the man says, "You don't exactly take note of stolen things that aren't important to whoever it is that controlling you. For a man who can fly, a boat is nothing but floating pieces of woods and metals."

Strolling through the empty streets of Gotham, I couldn't help but feel like something bad is about to happen. It feels like someone would try and jump us, or maybe one of Superman's regimes would find us and try and take us out. I stay on guard the whole time.

"Don't worry," the man says, crossing a street without stopping. "There's no one here. Why do you think it's okay for you to be out here in a prison uniform?"

Remembering what I'm wearing, I look down.

"After Brainiac's invasion and the fall of Batman to Superman, people moved out of here. Hardly anyone is still here. Gotham is practically abandoned. It makes for the kind of place to hide out when there's a bounty in your own hometown."

"There's a bounty on Flash's head?"

"Put on by Superman himself. Anyone with information leading the capture of Barry Allen will be given one million dollars. Courtney of Wayne Industry, of course."

"But wait, would people really turn Barry in? I mean after he helped to stop Brainiac's invasion."

"Luckily for Flash, no. The people of Central City still wouldn't turn him in. That's why on top of the one million dollars bounty, there are also the 20 or so regimes that constantly scout the city looking for him. Fearing for both himself and the people, he moved here. Along with some others."

"Others?"

The man stops for the first time, he looks up. I look up too and see what looks like old train tracks, the supports themselves covered in layers of rust.

"What," I ask, "What about the train tracks?"

I look back down at the man but jump back. He's gone. He vanishes into thin air.

"Oh my god," I think, "Oh my god. Where did you? Where did you go?"

Trying to stay calm, I look up at the train track and see him climbing the rusted supports. Letting out a sigh, I jump up and fly to him. Surprisingly a fast climber, he reaches the top of the tracks before I do.

"It shouldn't be too long now," the man says, looking over the railings.

"What are talking about," I ask. "What are we waiting for?"

"Not what but who," the man answers. "Who is the whole reason we're here. Who had something I need. Who is right there."

Pointing, I see a red blur run across the street. It runs from one building to the next.

"Barry," I say, about to fly over to him but stop when the man grabs my hands and pulls me down. He then slams his hand against my mouth.

"Be quiet," he says, "Don't move. We're about to have company."

The man brings up his hand and something dark and black starts to boil out of it. It encases us in no time. As so as we're covered in it, the man lets me go.

"Invisibility slime," the man says, "We can see them, but they can't see us."

About to ask who they are, the man points at the sky and I see two people flying over us.

"Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman," I say, watching as they fly over us and toward Barry. "Oh no. They must have seen him too."

"Way to be sneaky, Flash," the man says, watching as Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl land in front of the building. They break down the door and enter.

Getting ready to fly over there as fast as I can, the man once again grabs my hand and stops me. He pulls me down onto the track. As he does, he shoots out his hand and makes a large, blue, glowing oval appear on the track.

"This way is faster," he says.

Flash:

Hawkgirl hits me in the leg with her mace, I scream and roll over before hitting a wall.

"Give it up Flash," Wonder Woman says, standing before me, acting all high and mighty. "You know you can't win against us. Give up peacefully, and we'll give you a second chance."

"A second chance to be a regime," I say in between breaths. "Thanks, but no thanks. I already got a second chance from Bruce, and I'm keeping that one."

Pushing myself against the wall, I launch past Wonder Woman and to Hawkgirl. Grabbing her mace right out of her hands, I run back and hit Wonder Woman with the mace.

Stunning Wonder Woman, I run back and hit Hawkgirl with her own mace. I repeat this over and over until something happens and I slip, dropping the mace.

"That never gets old," Killer Frost says as she walks into the room. Fog falling from her hands, she shoots me and freezes me, leaving only my head open.

"Sorry Flash," Hawkgirl says, picking up her mace and walking to me. "But there are no third chances with us."

Hawkgirl raises her weapon, I squeeze my eyes shut and turn away. Expecting to hear nothing in a few seconds, I instead hear Hawkgirl screaming and then metal hitting wood.

Supergirl:

"What the--," Killer Frost says before the man hits her with a glowing bow, cutting her off. Stumbling, the man then places Killer Frost's head in the bow and pulls back. Shooting forward, the bow hits Frost and knocks her to the floor. As Killer Frost drops, Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl turn to us.

"No third chances uh," the man says, pulling a glowing arrow from the glowing quiver on his back. "Well then. Apparently, despite all your time on Earth, neither of you two has ever heard of baseball. Let me tell you something about the game. When the pitcher throws the ball, the person hitting, the batter, will get a strike if he misses. Three strikes and the batter is out."

Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl get into their fighting stance, the man ignores them and pulls something from his pocket. Looking like a metal can, the man throws it into the air before firing an arrow at Wonder Woman.

Despite blocking with her shield, the arrow changes, bursting into a goo that gets all over her shield.

"Strike one," the man screams, jumping to his right as Hawkgirl charges at him. Firing off a second arrow, it hits and bursts into goo that gets all over Hawkgirl's back, gluing her wings together.

"Strike two."

"Perish," Wonder Woman yells, lunging at the man while his back is to her. The man seeing her dodges to the side. As Wonder Woman passes him, the man shoves her and pushes her into Hawkgirl. With the goo still on her shield, the two end up stuck together, trying to unbind themselves.

"Strike 3," the man yells as he jumps back. The can from before hitting the ground unleashes a wave of black smoke that covers the room. It hits everyone and makes it impossible to see. I try using my x-ray vision to see but even with it, I see nothing but smoke. About to blow the smoke away, I stop when someone grabs my wrist.

"Kara," the man says, appearing out of the smoke. "Come on. I can see through this just fine. Grab hold and follow me."

Once more, grabbing the man's hand, he leads me through the smokes, avoiding the three and reaching Barry in no time. The second we reach him, the man drops to his knee and starts to break the ice.

"Barry Allen," the man says as soon as he is free. "Can you hear me? Don't worry, we're here to help. Just grab my hand."

"What," Barry coughs, "Who are you? What is this stuff?"

"You know," the man says, "We don't have time for this."

The man wraps his arm around Barry's waist and carry him out. Despite his struggle and screaming, the man keeps on going. He leads us out of the building, kicking open the door before leaving us on the sidewalk right outside.

"Stay here," he yells before going back inside. "I'll be back."

Hitting my chest and coughing, I finally regain enough strength to check on Barry.

"Barry," I say in between some lighter coughs. "Barry, are you okay?"

"Kara," he moans, "How, how are you here? In Gotham?"

"I had some help," I reply.

"Who the hell was that," Barry asks, trying to get up but falling down. "And what the hell was that smoke?"

I try to think of an answer to either of those questions, but I forget about them when I hear glass breaking. Looking toward the building, I see someone crashing through one of the windows, landing not too far from us.

"Killer Frost," I say, recognizing the purple and blue skin with white hair. Looking at Barry, I jump when two more bodies crash through. "Wonder Woman? Hawkgirl?"

"Don't worry," the man says as he walks out. "They're fine. Just knock-out. They would be in worse conditions if we left them in there with the smoke, but I figure out of the kindness of my heart, I would do them a favor. Come on, let's go."

Reaching down to pick up Barry, he wraps Barry's arm around himself.

"Kara, are you okay to walk by yourself? My arms are full at the moment."

I nod my head and the three of us leave.
