I remembered our touches of long ago, and knew it would never be like it was between us. “How I’ve longed for this,” he said into my ear, pulling me close by the nape of my neck. I was crazy for him.
No, it wouldn’t be the same.

I opened my eyes and squinted, my face bathed in morning sunlight. I knew it must be past eleven. I glimpsed the time on the digital clock on the nightstand—it was nearing noon.
I turned to my side and watched Davinder sleep. He was naked to the waist and I lay there enjoying the view. If I should look as good as he did at fifty-two years old, I’d never complain again.
Frowning, Davinder stirred a little and sighed. I flipped to my back and stared up at the ceiling.
Last night, we hadn’t made love after all. We’d ended up lying next to each other in the dark, talking again. He was adamant about getting it right after all these years apart.
