Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson.
That was the song Jordan Lin picked to showcase his technical skills on the guitar.
Cliffs of Dover is one of the most difficult guitar pieces to master in Jordan Lin's original world.
It was difficult to play even for seasoned guitarists who spent their whole lives playing the guitar for a living.
The song features very advanced fingerpicking and sophisticated legato techniques that require not just a solid foundation in guitar skills but also a high level of dexterity AND stamina to play.
Our bro Jordan Lin was an Asian Tigress (Read: Asian Mom) graduate, and one does not graduate from there without having little things such as dexterity and stamina trained to inhuman levels.
Turkish March at 232 beats per minute? Done at 8 years old.
Flight of the bumblebee under 1 minute? Ha. Done at 12 years old.
But as amazing of an Asian Jordan Lin was, Cliffs of Dover was beyond just difficult.
And it was especially so because the guitar wasn't his main instrument.
Eric Johnson played it at 196 beats per minute.
Jordan Lin could do it at around half time at 98 beats per minute.
Which isn't all that bad, considering the difficulty of the piece.
Eric Johnson that insane genius guitarist placed THE most difficult section in the intro, and as such, it was the best piece if you want to make a deep impression right from the get go.
It was perfect for a bunch of old professors from a parallel world!
"Yamato. That's a strangely similar brand name to Yamaha back in my world." Jordan Lin chuckled to himself as he plugged in the electric guitar into the amplifier.
As usual, he tested the instrument.
Tweeeeeeeeyiiiiiiiiingiyaaaaaaaaa!
"This sound is actually not bad." Jordan Lin was inwardly impressed. "The National Institute of Music has really high standards in their instrument selections."
"Hurry up." Professor Ian hurried him in a gruff voice.
Jordan Lin didn't know whether he was saying it because he didn't want to spend even another unnecessary second with him, or whether he actually couldn't wait to hear Jordan Lin play.
"It's probably the latter." Jordan Lin sniggered to himself. "He is probably impressed to the high heavens by my Romance De'Amore.
In this world, I am a bright shining megastar just about to ignite! Watch me and be in awe, old foggey! Mwa ha ha ha!"
Yes bro he was impressed.
But can't you be abit more humble about it?
Haiyaaa.
Jordan Lin took a deep breath and held it in for a couple of seconds as he quickly adjusted his mindset and emotions.
Shuaaa.
Jordan Lin's aura sharpened drastically at that moment.
He was like a god-ranked dagger being unsheathed.
And then as he expelled his breath, his hand burst into motion!
The electric guitar's raspy mid range exploded from the amp, brutally shredding the peaceful atmosphere of the room like a cannonball filled with shrapnel exploding in the middle of a densely packed room.
And just a fleeting moment after doing its dirty work, the mid range immediately leapt up to the high range.
Tweeeeeeeee!!
Jordan Lin held the high note for a few moments and discharged a torrent of pure energy into the room.
Everybody's souls felt like they were on fire at that moment!
Tweeewiwiwiwiwiwi!
What followed were high speed spirals, downwards then upwards, a beautiful arpeggio which dragged any remaining resistance at lethargy out into the open and slaughtered it to death.
"Wo-woaaah!! What is this? What is this?!" Professor Davin, who had barely managed to hold in his shock during Jordan Lin's first song, completely lost it at that moment.
He stood up with his jaws hanging down on the floor.
"He… He… He…" Professor Jennifer could only sputter in shock as she raised a trembling hand and pointed at Jordan Lin awkwardly.
She wanted to tell someone that this boy was doing something unprecedented, something supposedly impossible.
But who could she tell?
Damn it!
When has the world seen such godly skills on the electric guitar?
How could anyone even think of playing the electric guitar like that?
It sounded messy but somehow, there was a weird resonance in her soul that completely rejoiced at such release.
It was like the shackles over a portion of her soul were suddenly broken.
Ka-cha!
Her soul was free!
What? Exaggeration, you say?
I say nay! Nay!
For those whose hearts were immersed completely in music, whose souls roamed its glittering corridors every moment of everyday, finally listening to a piece of music which expressed their emotions in a completely unique and different way was…
Eargasmic!
Freedom!
Professor Jennifer was completely enamored by Jordan Lin's music at that moment!
Professor Ian was completely silent and was sitting completely still like a statue.
Except for his hands, they were both on the table and trembling slightly.
"Damn that Kamala! Fu - Ahhh this song is awesome!! This - ahhh fuck! I have to fail him! If not I will lose my department's bud - ahhhh!!! This is good! This is goo - fark! I have to fail him! Fail him now! Fail him now! Fai - ahhhhh!!! This section is godly! Too godly! How? How did he do it? He is a geni - no! I can't do this! My department can't afford to lose any mone - ahhhh!! Ahhh!!! This part is even godlier! Holy! Holyyy!!!"
Professor Ian's brain was a complete mess.
It was half eargasming and half completely unwilling to do so!
The crowd was almost completely spellbound.
Of course for the younger listeners, their musical palette had yet to widen to the extent of being able to appreciate Eric Johnson's epic Cliffs of Dover completely.
They frowned slightly at the loud jarring noise of the electric guitar.
But even they could not deny the sheer technical genius that was required to play such a sophisticated song on the guitar.
"This boy is good." Selene Dior, a pretty young girl with blond hair looking around 14 years old whispered softly to her friend with a frown.
"He is even better than my brother." Lyra Zech, an even more beautiful redhead, said with an excited smile.
As they say, both the hero and the villain of any superhero story have tragic backgrounds.
One responded negatively and became the villain while one responded positively to become the hero.
Apparently, it was also true for pretty girls!
Two beautiful girls, one frowning in jealousy and one smiling in appreciation.
And then the chorus dropped.
