Nuclear Bomb

"The guitar? Excellent choice." The Professor Jennifer's eyes lit up in surprise.

The guitar was not a very popular instrument in the parallel world. Though it was nowhere as obscure as the piano, it was also nowhere as widespread as the guitar in Jordan Lin's original world.

In our original world, almost every band has a piano or at least a guitar.

But it was completely different in the parallel world.

Flutes, violins and trumpets were their go-to instruments, and most of their top songs were based on those three instruments.

As such Professor Jennifer was rather pleasantly surprised at Jordan Lin's choice.

Most of the examinees went the vocal route or the woodwinds route, which was the two largest departments by far.

"What song will you be playing?" Professor Davin asked in a neutral voice.

"I will be playing Romance De'Amore." Jordan Lin replied quietly. He was regulating his breathing and diving into the song's slightly melancholy mood.

At the same time, his hands plucked the strings gently and started to tune the guitar with practiced ease.

Professor Jennifer nodded at his actions and smiled in approval.

A true musician always gets to know his instruments first before diving in, especially if it was an emotionally charged piece like Romance De'Amore.

Romance De'Amore was a classic piece for guitar, one that was extremely popular in the original world.

It was the go-to piece for many beginners who wanted to look and sound cool while playing the guitar.

"Romance De'Amore? I have never heard of it. Who composed it?" Professor Davin asked with a frown.

"It is my own composition." Jordan Lin replied without a single trace of shame at claiming such an epic classic for himself

Our bro, even if he does not become the King of Superstars, will definitely take the crown in shamelessness!

"Start playing already. Stop wasting our time!" Professor Ian snapped impatiently. "A personal composition? Bah! It's probably bad, and a complete waste of my time."

Jordan Lin nodded and closed his eyes, completely ignoring the half dead old man's barbed words.

He wasn't truly done with the tuning, but it was passable, so he began without hesitation.

He took a deep breath, and released it slowly as his fingers started to pluck the strings with great finesse.

Romance De'Amore made its debut appearance in the parallel world!

The guitar's strings vibrated non stop under Jordan Lin's expert plucking and a heartbreakingly tender melody quickly filled the atmosphere.

Badump!

The hearts of everyone in the room thumped slightly harder and faster.

"Oh!" Professor Jennifer gasped and hand shot up to cover her mouth in shock. It was such a beautiful piece.

Professor Davin was able to control his emotions better, but his wide eyes betrayed the massive shock that his heart was going through at that moment.

"The heavens are helping me! The heavens are helping me! This little punk is actually an expert in guitar as well! What a gem! What a great gem!" Mr Chang was screaming internally.

"Impressive." Director Kamala Hellen nodded in approval with a very, very wide smile on her face. "He is awesome both in playing the guitar and piano. The Strings Department must have him no matter what!"

The shock and trepidation she felt earlier was completely gone, and a huge sense of satisfaction filled her heart with an extremely pleasant sensation.

When Jordan Lin started playing, Professor Ian was still able to maintain his earthshaking frown. But as the beautiful melody continued on, even his heart was stirred.

The tender melody was like a massive emotional magnet, pulling out tender thoughts about his own romantic life, causing images of beautiful memories of a time long forgotten to reappear in his mind.

"Janet, oh Janet. You were truly the most beautiful girl I've been with. Your face… and your body… Perfect. Perfect!

Melissa… Melissa… You weren't pretty, but you were truly the gentlest. I do not deserve you… I hope you are happy now.

Linda… Linda… Oh my sweet darling. You were great in everything. I miss you…

Betty… Betty… … …

Monica… Monica… … …"

Damn. That lecherous old man had so many exes!

Professor Ian completely forgot that he had 25% of his department's budget at stake in a wager at that moment, and was fully lost in the bittersweetness of his memories.

At a point in time, he even closed his eyes and a few drops of tears rolled down his face, triggered by the deep yearning in his heart.

Did he finally go through the long list of girls he had been with to reach the memory of his true love?

Whatever triggered his tears at that final few moments, we may never know.

The minutes ticked by, feeling extremely short due to the deep immersion that all the listeners had.

All too soon the song reached its final section.

Romance De'Amore's final notes filled the room, and then… Silence.

Haiiii.

Haiiiiii.

Sighs of happiness, regret and every sort of responses at the ending of something good filled the room.

"That was good, Jordan. Very good." Professor Jennifer said in a slightly trembling voice that betrayed her deep roiling emotions at that moment.

"However, it wasn't a technically difficult piece and I believe it did not showcase your true skills. I would like to ask you to play another piece for us, one that will push your playing ability to the maximum, please." Professor Jennifer was the first to respond and she literally asked for an encore.

Jordan Lin's playing was THAT good!

Unknowingly, he had birthed a die hard brain dead fan in Professor Jennifer!

A murmur of agreement from everyone present swept through the room.

"Good idea." Professor Davin grunted his approval.

He glanced at the grumpy Professor Ian but he had his face turned away, and he didn't seem to have any objections.

So he signaled Jordan Lin to start.

"Showcase my technical abilities?" Jordan Lin's mouth twitched slightly.

Once again, as a true blue Asian, one of the main goals of playing any musical instrument is to be able to play the toughest and most technically insane songs out there.

And for guitar…

"Hehehe. I didn't want to drop a nuclear bomb on my first day but… you did ask for it." Jordan Lin smirked inwardly.

"I would like to switch my acoustic guitar to an electric guitar for my next song please." Jordan Lin said with a polite smile.
