Chapter 51

“Great,” Ollie says. “Now…Are we done with the niceties or should I pretend some more that you didn’t have us kidnapped?”

Swallowing a snort in the last moment, Wes comes to a decision. He’ll ask the critters to go farther so that he can have a foothold that can bring down the illusion down with a thought. That way, Wes can focus on interrupting or taking down the connection.

“Now, now,” Ingel says, arms extended in a pacifying gesture, and Wes doesn’t bother to hide his snort this time. Glancing at Wes and taking him in with one look, Ingel then turns and tells Ollie, “Can you blame us?”

“It’s the second time somebody asked me that and I assure you, as I did him, that I do blame you,” Ollie says serenely.

Now, on to the bodies. The absence plays havoc with Wes’s senses like always. It’s the same process, over and over, their lack and his involuntary recoil. Still, Wes pushes on, gaining precious ground with each heave.
