Chapter 23

“Is everything okay?” Sean asks after sitting on the sofa.

I remain standing where I am.

“Patrick knows someone who can operate on me. He wants to take me there. He met him during his travels in Europe.”

Sean looks at me like I haven’t spoken, but I know I’ve shocked him. We haven’t talked a lot about the surgery, because it’s a delicate and painful matter for me. I get so irritated when I think about how my doctors keep postponing it, so I try not to think about it. But now I haveto think about it, because Patrick told me about this surgeon who specializes in facial reconstruction, and uses such advanced techniques that he’s able to operate on scarred people just a few days after the disaster. Sure, it costs a lot of money, but that isn’t a problem for me since my family has enough to support an entire village. I would have to leave with Patrick and travel across the country, because this doctor normally only operates on rich people in Beverly Hills, not mere mortals like me.
