Chapter 99 "Shopping List"

"Mr. Malfoy, care to join me for a cup of tea?" Artel's voice snapped Lucius out of his shock.

Recalling Dumbledore's remarks about Saruman's formidable Transfiguration skills, Lucius couldn't help but agree with the assessment. The entire spectacle of the duel had been a treat to witness, with Saruman effortlessly toying with Quirrell.

"The mastery of those transfigurations is truly unparalleled," Lucius remarked, his admiration evident as he watched Artel's cautious demeanor, despite his immense power.

"If I may, I would gladly join you," Lucius added, casting a quick glance at the fading white light surrounding Artel's body.

Turning his attention to the battered Quirrell trapped in the rock, Lucius inquired, "What exactly does Mr. Saruman intends to do?"

Artel paused for a moment, pondering the significance of killing Quirrell himself. After careful consideration, he saw no benefit in it.

"I have no desire to kill him. Teaching him a lesson was sufficient to remind him of the importance of respecting his elders," Artel replied, glancing at Quirrell, Voldemort lurking behind him.

Artel needed Voldemort to remain present occasionally to divert attention away from himself.

"Your generosity is remarkable," Lucius remarked, offering a bit of flattery. Aware of the dragon egg in Artel's possession, Lucius had no inkling of its significance.

As for the dragon egg, lost by Quirrell, it was no concern of Lucius's. Even if Voldemort were to inquire about it, he wouldn't find any leads pointing to Lucius.

"Lucius gestured, "Please, after you."

With that, Artel made his way towards the alley entrance. Though the magic he had just performed had depleted his reserves, particularly the Transfiguration, Artel was merely testing his abilities. Dealing with Quirrell was well within his capabilities, and he had numerous strategies at his disposal.

After Artel departed, Lucius approached Quirrell, who sighed but refrained from provoking him.

"I didn't know him before. Whether you believe it or not, I've always been loyal to the master," Lucius stated solemnly.

Regardless of Quirrell's belief in his loyalty, Lucius aimed his silver cane at him, casting a spell to dispel the Transfiguration binding Quirrell.

As the vines turned back into rags, Quirrell took a deep breath, resembling a drowning man saved from the sea.

"Dragon egg..." Quirrell mumbled.

Lucius wished he could intercede with Saruman on Quirrell's behalf. Smuggling dragon eggs was costly, and obtaining another would strain his resources. But the fear of Voldemort compelled him to comply.

"Fine, fine. I'll find a way to get you one within half a month," Lucius relented.

At the alley entrance, Artel's ears twitched as he dispelled the eavesdropping magic he had left behind.

"After half a month? Hehehe..." Artel smirked to himself.

Later, as Lucius emerged from the alley, he apologized to Artel. "I apologize for the wait."

"It's alright. I also needed some time to ponder," Artel replied, waving off the apology.

Lucius gestured towards a direction and suggested, "That shop, 573, belongs to our family. If you don't mind, let's have tea there."

Artel glanced at the shop, feeling a twinge of surprise. The last time he raided Knockturn Alley, that potion material store provided valuable goods, but he hadn't realized it was owned by the Malfoy family.

Entering the store, Lucius exchanged a few words with the wizard in charge before leading Artel upstairs personally.

Upstairs, Lucius led Artel to a secluded area where they could discuss business privately. As they settled in, a woman arrived with a pot of tea, serving them before discreetly exiting the room.

Once alone, Lucius poured Artel a cup of tea and inquired, "Mr. Saruman, what brings you to discuss with me?"

"I do have some matters I wish to collaborate on with Mr. Malfoy. The Malfoy family's longstanding influence in the wizarding world is undeniable," Artel replied, prompting a pleased chuckle from Lucius.

Artel's acknowledgment further solidified their partnership. "Indeed, the strength of the Malfoy family speaks for itself. How may I be of assistance, Mr. Saruman?"

"I believe Mr. Malfoy can aid me in procuring certain materials through your family's channels and connections, with no concern for the price," Artel suggested.

With his current potion materials, Artel could only produce a few hundred bottles of potent orc potions, far from the required five thousand. Relying solely on looting Knockturn Alley was not sustainable, making collaboration with the Malfoy family a more viable option.

As for funds, Artel was not lacking. The spoils from looting Knockturn Alley had enriched him significantly, and if needed, he could resort to raiding Gringotts again. With the power of the One Ring, breaching Gringotts' defenses was child's play.

"Potion materials? Our family's enterprises happen to encompass... May I inquire about the specifics of Mr. Saruman's requirements?" Lucius inquired.

With the Malfoy family's extensive smuggling networks, acquiring potion materials was a primary endeavor. Artel requested paper and pen, intentionally altering his handwriting before meticulously listing the ingredients for common orc potions, potent orc potions, invisibility potions etc. He also added few other materials as well to mislead Lucius.
