Chosens

The corners of his lips involuntarily rose into a slight smile, and Long Chen proceeded onwards to the Supervising Elder, "I would like to challenge another person."

The Supervising Elder's muscles on his jaw twitched, "There is no need for that. After you broke through to the Sky Realm, I'm sure that somebody will come forward soon. Wait a while here for that person to come."

Long Chen slightly creased his eyebrows in confusion, but still stood there waiting.

It didn't take long of a person to arrive, and the moment he did, the entire atmosphere seemed to have been suffocated by his presence.

The crowd strained their necks to look up at the new arrival, and seeing who is was, they all narrowed their necks while their eyes brightened with awe.

That person was wearing a dark red robe, with his long black hair tied up into a bun on the top of his head. His eyes were sharp and deep, and he exuding out a sophisticated disposition.

Softly flying through the air, he placed both of his hands behind his back, his expression calm and indifferent, as though nothing in this world could faze him.

"Stop trying to act all mighty here! Why are you releasing your aura? Hurry up and retract your aura!" The Supervising Elder glanced at the man with a trace of disdain in his eyes while he berated.

The man averted his gaze away, acting as though he could not hear anything, but the suffocating pressure on the crowd had abruptly disappeared.

Flying straight towards Long Chen, the man elegantly landed on his foots without the slightest misstep, and akin to a wise elder, he stared at Long Chen and asked in a low deep voice, "Are you Long Chen?"

"Who in this entire place looks like Long Chen to you? You should stop asking the obvious questions and get on with the work. I don't have all day to listen to you displaying your 'imposing presence' to a youth from the younger generation!" The Supervising Elder gave the man a side glance while ruthlessly insulting.

The sides of the man's lips twitched up and down, but he didn't say anything in response.

Long Chen cast a slight glance towards this small interaction, then cupped his fists while straightforwardly replying, "Yes, I am Long Chen. May I ask what you are here for?"

The man gave Long Chen a deep gaze, and seeing how Long Chen did not flinch at the slightest, he lightly raised his eyebrows and introduced himself, "I am Su Qin, one of the Elders in charge of the Chosens. You can call me Elder Su. I was dispatched here to inform you that because you have successfully broken through to the Sky Realm, you are now being promoted to a member of the Chosens."

"So fast? I had only been promoted to an Elite Disciple only just recently…" Long Chen could not help but say in surprise.

'Is it my fault that your cultivation had progressed so quickly?' Elder Su wanted to curse out aloud, but he kept this words within his mind.

"As one of the top Sects within the Wind Cloud city, what we value most is talent and potential. Since you meet the requirements…" Elder Su started to say in a profound voice.

"What are you talking about? Meeting the requirements? He utterly destroyed them! Old man Su, there is no need to act all nonchalant around here. Long Chen, right here, is a Sky Realm existence at the age of 13. What were you even doing when you were 13? Trying to figure out how Crystals worked?" The Supervising Elder bluntly interrupted Elder Su's speech.

Then, the Supervising Elder turned towards Long Chen and said, "Long Chen, although this person often puts up that constipated look on his face, but he is quite reliable. You just need to follow him later to learn more about the Chosens in this Sect, and the treatment that you will receive as a Chosen."

Long Chen lightly nodded his head, and after saying farewell to the Supervising Elder, Elder Su turned around and flew out of the Treasury Combat Hall, closely followed by Long Chen, who was practicing his control on flight.

Meanwhile, Xiao Tian and Feng Xin exchanged a look after seeing both of them exit, before leaving along with them.

They flew for quite a while, before Elder Su finally halted his movements, and stopped in front of a normal looking wall that stretched around more than a few hundred meters.

Long Chen landed on his feet and looked towards Elder Su with an inquiring look, and Elder Su did not say a single word as he placed his hand onto the wall.

A flash of light enveloped his hand, and the light was swiftly retracted. Instantly, the wall in front of them collapsed, revealing an open door.

"This is the array formation leading to the dedicated region for Chosens. You only need to place your Sect token on the wall, and it would identify you and open up, since we have already registered you as a Chosen." Elder Su explained without turning back his head, then walked through the door.

Long Chen nodded his head in understanding, then went through the door as well.

His eyes were momentarily filled with brilliant bright light, blinding his vision for a while. He shook his head for a few seconds, and after his vision returned to normal, his eyes widened in shock as he stood rooted to the ground.

The entire region was shimmering with golden and bright light, and many rows of courtyards lined up the surroundings, each of them more than thrice as big as his previous courtyard.

There were even small mountains and hills that decorated the landscape, along with the countless flowers planted around the ground, and Long Chen was certain that they were not ordinary flowers, but precious herbs that were sold on the market for a ridiculous price.

Not only that, he noticed that there were numerous crystals lighting up the pathways, and when he took a closer look, he found that they were the actual Crystals that were used for cultivation! And now, they were delegated to a role as a mere decoration.

He suddenly had the urge to pluck out and steal off all the Crystals on the pathway, and if not for the stern look that Elder Su was aiming towards him, he wouldn't be able to control himself.

"Each Chosen is assigned to a courtyard, and you are also assigned to one too." Elder Su led him towards one of the courtyards, where he could see his name displayed in golden specks on the exterior walls of the courtyard, signifying that it belonged to him.

Next, Elder Su pointed towards the hills and small mountains at the background, "Do you see those hills? These are actually places for the Chosens to live in by themselves. Some of them like peace and quiet, so they chose to live there. Most of the best Chosens will live in these areas."

Elder Su then brought him towards another area, where there was a long tall wall affixed to the ground.

On the wall hung a long golden embroidered roll.

Long Chen examined it, and thought that it was just another version of the Heaven's Pride Ranking, but on closer look, he realized that there were some foreign names there, accompanied by their Sect's name.

Before he had opened his mouth to ask, Elder Su had already began to explain, "After being promoted to a Chosen, you should place your sights far further than just within the Moonlight Sect. The names on the list is a compilation of the top 150 geniuses in the younger generation within the entire Wind Cloud City."

"The roll is infused with magical powers, and managed by a hidden power who keeps track of everything and updates when necessary. The rank is determined by one's combat strength, and part of their age also comes into account, although it doesn't take up too much weight, since talent is nothing in front of absolute strength."

"Of course, there is an age limit for those in this list, which is 40 years of age. Anyone above that will have their name directly removed from this Young Genius Roll." Elder Su slowly said.

"Then how does one advance their ranks? By fighting those within the higher ranks?" Long Chen asked.

"That is one way to rise up the rankings that is if the other person accepts your challenge. Each person within the ranking list can decline up to 3 challenges, while they themselves can only issue 3 challenges each month."

"Of course, there is another way to advance your rank, which is through the Young Genius Gathering, held every year. This year, the Young Genius Gathering will be held in the Wind Gale Sect, and is about a month and a half from now." Elder Su plainly stated.

Long Chen nodded his head and digested this piece of information within his brain, then pointed towards the roll, "I have another question. Why is it that for some of the youths listed here, they belonged to Cults, and not Sects? And what are Cults?"

Elder Su gave Long Chen a deep look, and took some time before he replied in a solemn voice, "Since the ancient times of cultivation, there has always been two sides. The good, and the evil. We consider ourselves, the Moonlight Sect, as belonged to the good side, which is why we use Sect in our name. On the other hand, for those Sects which belongs to the evil side, they use Cult in their names instead."

"And you may wonder why we, as the good side, haven't eradicated the evil side yet, there are two reasons for this. Firstly, the evil side is strong, maybe not stronger than us, but they are still powerful. If both sides get engaged in a frontal and intense fight, there will be an immense amount of casualties, and we won't want that to happen."

"Secondly, the concept of Cults and the evil side has already been integrated into our society. You can say that both the evil and good side rule the world together, just in different ways. The good side are prominent and noticeable in the cultivation world, while the evil side mainly hide in darkness and shadows, as if they do not belong to the world, but a separate dimension instead. You can consider that we are co-existing with each other, and although we belong to either sides, no one would want to openly engage in battle"
