Sparring

Eva half smiled as she headed to the girls' dorm to change into her warrior clothes. She still couldn't get the picture of Davis frowning in her head when she had walked into the class and dropped a nullified slip on his desk.

He couldn't do anything of course but fume silently while Eva continued scribbling down stupid stuffs on her books to annoy him the more.

During break, to avoid Fiona's piercing gaze, she had eaten in the class with her new friends, Emily, Alen, Alen's yellow haired friend, Jasmine, Sophia and Eli, Alen's room mate who was a vampire.

They talked about random stuffs which got them engrossed till lunch over.

Now it was time for the main deal of young Warriors prime.

As Eva put on her on warrior clothes, she couldn't help but admire herself. She really looked beautiful and the clothes suited her like it was made for her.

Like all other girls, she put her hair up into a tight pony tail.

As she waited for Sophia to finish up, she sat on the bed eating chicken nuggets.

"So what are we going to do today. Sparring, leg work, archery, fist fight?"

She asked

Sophia smiled as she put her long hair into a pony tail.

"Miss Hallows... she's our training teacher but she's not around for the day so Miss Terra would be in charge of training ...so all we have to do today is sparring against each other but of course when Miss Terra's around, she doesn't accept people of opposite genders fighting against each other..."

Eva swung her legs up and down thoughtfully.

She had never sparred against someone before except lashing out at her grandmother. But that was her only experience, she didn't know the basics of sword fighting one bit.

"Does everyone have to participate" Eva asked carefully dreading the possibility of embarrassing herself out there

"Of course not. You can sign up for sparring or you can decide to sit and watch...but no powers are involved.." Sophia carefully explained as they move out of the dormitory to see their friends.

All six of them, Eva, Emily, Alen, Jasmine and Ali, Sophia made their way to way towards the cafeteria and like others grabbed a bottle of water Incase they ever got thirsty.

They went to the front yard. It was bigger than Eva had expected. It covered a wide mass of several kilometers and was covered with soft mushy grasses.

It was like a mini forest. Going deeper through the bushes, they would keep getting denser and denser till the grasses were tall, standing above your head.

The students who didn't plan to fight formed a circle around the field sitting down in groups or cliques.

Eva with her two best friends go over to the scroll where everyone who wanted a sparring session put down their names. There was a quail and an ink bottle for those who wanted to put down their names.

Emily wanted to sign up so Eva and Alen followed her.

Eva looked curiously at the scroll to see who was sparring against who

The list was short and the people sparring were mostly the royals or the members of the council.

Simone was going to be sparring against Arjana

Damien was going to be sparring against a vampire called Hugo

Emily put her name ....she was going to be sparring against Alora, an Elve.

Eva's mouth fell open as she saw two names which she hadn't noticed earlier.

Davis was going to be sparring against Jared??

Eva sat cross legged on the soft grass with her friends. They were talking about random things here and there waiting for Miss Terra to arrive.

Emily and the rest of the students who would be sparring today were in the middle of the wide circle formed by the students.

Emily and Alora were sharpening their swords

Simone was talking to Arjana.

Damien was talking to Hugo and Davis.

Jared stayed far from the rest.

He was sitting on a small stone, looking down while peering at everyone sitting on the grass through the gaps his hair formed as they tussle down his forehead to close his eyes.

You wouldn't believe that this person was about to enter a sword battle in a couple of minutes. He looked so calm and composed.

Infact every participant did...

Eva almost puked with the way the girls around her were drooling over the guys on the field.

She rolled her eyes wondering what made Davis and Jared so much loved, admired and feared in the school.

Suddenly, her gaze is held with Jared's. He on the other hand happened to meet her gaze at the same time.

Eva quickly looked away when she saw him smile , exposing his fangs.

Eva scrunched up her knees close to her face so that she was hugging herself.

"This is a like...a friendly sparring session right"

Alen pursed her lips before saying.

"Something like that but the participants...take things too seriously. And by seriously... blood is involved.."

Eva almost shuddered.

"Is it a good idea for those two to fight. Everyone on the field is kind of getting along but not once have I seen them talk to each other" Eva was referring to Jared and Davis who hadn't even spared each other a glance.

"Oh..so you so know they're enemies"

Eva's mouth fell open

..."I was just guessing earlier..."

"Your guess was right. These former best friends are now sworn enemies. They're like water and oil. They don't mix"

Eva couldn't believe it

These guys were once best friends...

"What happened..."

Alen was about to talk when Miss Terra suddenly appeared in the field causing the noisy area to become silent.

She smiled in appreciation as she clapped her hands.

"Well...since everyone is settled in...let's begin, shall we?"

With that, the other participants stand beside Miss Terra who was standing at one corner of the field leaving Simone and Arjana to face each other.

Miss Terra walked in between the two girls.

Eva stared in admiration.

These girls were laughing and chatting like best friends just a while ago, but now as they faced each other holding their swords to their face, their expression was filled with seriousness and focus.

Miss Terra looked at Simone

"And which sword have you chosen to battle with Miss Fen"

Simone spoke loudly and clearly.

"The Entopian sword"

"Pros. and Cons." Miss Terra asked in the same clear tone so that people like Eva at the back could hear them.

"Light and sharp enough to slice through iron. No cons." Simone said in a deadly voice.

Miss Terra faced Arjana.

"And which sword have you chosen to battle with Miss Genie"

"The vantch sword"

"Pros. And cons." Miss Terra ordered

"Pros....Sharp and durable...Cons. Heavy..." Arjana said in a loud tone

(PS: Pros. is like saying the advantage of something or someone. Cons. is the disadvantage)

Mis. Terra nods and steps back.

"You may begin"

Eva taps Alen vigorously.

"I know that sword...T.. The Entopian sword. Arjana might get badly hurt"

Alen shrugged like it was an everyday thing.

"Then she's rushed off to the school clinic. They're only two rules in a sparring session Eva. You do not use your powers unless told so and you shouldn't kill your opponent" She finally looked at Eva who was staring at her with an open mouth and finishes her words.

"But you can hurt them as much as you want"
