Chapter 4

Hao Yu buried his face in Chen Jie's chest, his body trembling as he cried. He didn't want to see Wei Long. Hearing his voice was enough to make his heart ache. He didn't want to even look at him. He didn't want to have anything to do with him.

Wei Long stared at the shivering omega for some seconds and deduced that he was indeed crazy for his actions made no sense at all. Anyway, it wasn't his business.

"That omega is needed back on the field. They're about to award the medals. Get him there." He said, then walked out of the infirmary. At least he had done what he was asked to do.

Hao Yu stayed in Chen Jie's arms until he felt better and his tears receeded. He wiped his face with the back of his hand as he looked up at Chen Jie, sniffling. "Thank you."

"Anytime." Chen Jie said, ruffling Hao Yu's curls.

This time, Hao Yu was too exhausted to feel weird about it. He stepped away and went back to bed, drawing the covers up to his neck as he breathed a sigh of relief.

Ahh, that was scary. That was really scary. He had just regressed and the Gods slapped Wei Long right back to him. It was a good thing he didn't look at him. He knew his heart very well. With all the years he spent loving Wei Long, he knew he would have fallen into the same pit once he looked at him.

"What did Wei Long do to make you cry like this?" Chen Jie asked, concerned. "Your eyes and nose are already red." He placed the nylon bag of food he had brought on a table beside Hao Yu and proceeded to dish the food.

Hao Yu glanced at the open window, sighing at his failed attempt to die. "He bullied me." He simply said, not wanting to explain anything. If only Chen Jie knew how much Wei Long had made him cry.

Chen Jie tsked. "He's probably just jealous that you won the marathon. Forget about him. Here, have some water."

The weather was hot so he had gotten a bottle of chilled water for Hao Yu along with some food.

Hao Yu collected the bottle and took a few sips then glanced at Chen Jie who was serving the food.

Chen Jie was a pretty handsome Alpha with a head of unruly brown hair that added a touch of untamed charm to his appearance. He had dark eyes and tan skin with a physique reminiscent of a jock.

Hao Yu could recall the way omegas and betas flocked around them in his former life. They had a lot of fans and were sent gifts everyday just because of their looks.

He and Chen Jie used to be tight until Chn jie learned of his feelings for Wei Long, an Alpha like them. He tried to talk sense into him. He scolded him all the time and warned him against pursuing such a relationship but he didn't listen. He was completely blinded by love.

Alas, he finally ran mad and committed a crime then was sent to prison. Chen Jie only visited him once with his beautiful omega wife and two children. He told Hao Yu that it was the end of their friendship and he couldn't help him anymore. It was their final goodbye, that was why he took his family along. It was the last time they met and after falling deeper into madness, Hao Yu took his own life.

Hao Yu felt tears well up in his eyes again. If he hadn't been so in love with Wei Long, he would have had a family like that and lived happily ever after. He wouldn't have lost his friendship with Chen Jie. Their children would have grown up together, bickering like they did when they were younger and who knows, maybe their relationship would have changed from best friends to in-laws.

Chen Jie finished serving the food and noticed that Hao Yu was about to cry again. He felt distressed. "Is it Wei Long again?"

"Don't mention him." Hao Yu sniffled as he wiped his face with the back oh his hand. "Don't speak of him again. Don't even think about him. I hate him."

Chen Jie couldn't help but laugh. Hao Yu looked so cute. He had never seen Hao Yu cry so much before. He always acted tough and tried to blend with the Alphas even though he was an omega. He never thought he'd see Hao Yu's vulnerable side.

"What's funny?" Hao Yu asked, glaring at him.

"Nothing, nothing." He cleared his throat. "Here, eat then we'll go and get your medal." He handed Hao Yu a bowl of sweet porridge.

Hearing that he had to go and collect his medal, Hao Yu's heart trembled. Did that mean he'd have to see Wei Long again? He suddenly didn't feel like eating anymore but Chen Jie had put his effort into getting him the food so he forced himself to take a few spoons. He couldn't waste his best friend's effort.

The porridge was warm and sweet. A hundreds times better than the goo they served them in prison. No. A thousand times better. His appetite quickly came back and he ate with gusto.

Although he was eating, he still had no plans to remain in the world. The Gods would have to take back his soul whether they liked it or not. He just felt it was good to go with a full stomach.

Hao Yu was done in a few minutes and he downed the bottle of water Chen Jie had given him earlier. "Ah, that was good." He said, feeling satisfied. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Chen Jie said, reaching out to ruffle his hair but Hao Yu quickly slapped his hand.

"You have to stop doing that. I'm not a child." Hao Yu complained. He was a thirty years old man in his teenage body. He wondered how old he was currently. 17? 18? Had his birthday passed yet? What was the date? He didn't even know.

Chen Jie retracted his hand, feeling a little disappointed. He stared at Hao Yu for he felt like there was something different about his best friend.

Hao Yu noticed and asked; "What? Is there something on my face?"
