Chapter 5

Chen Jie thought for a while then shook his head. "Nothing. Let's go." He collected the bowl from Hao Yu and set it aside. He felt that maybe Hao Yu was just being emotional. Omegas tended to be sensitive after all. He wondered what Wei Long did or said to him to make him cry. It must have been something big for Hao Yu rarely cries.

Anyway, all was good now.

They cleared up the place and Hao Yu followed Chen Jie out.

The school was exactly the same as it used to be. Hao Yu had thought that he'd see some differences but there were none. Even the flowers were the same as they were in his former life. The only thing that changed was him.

How was it possible? From an Alpha to an Omega...

What kind of cruel joke was fate playing? Wasn't the suffering in his former life enough?

He turned to Chen Jie. "Did something unusual happen to me lately?" He asked.

Chen Jie was puzzled by the question. "Something unusual? Like what?"

"Like me differentiating into an Omega." He had heard of cases like that in his former life.

The statement made Chen Jie laugh. "Did you hit your head somewhere, Hao Yu? You've always been an Omega."

Hao Yu was left stunned. He didn't differentiate? How could he be an Omega from birth? It just didn't make sense. He was a tall muscular Alpha that Omegas and Betas used to love. He was so popular. How could he be a weak Omega?

As they approached the school field, Chen Jie sighted Wei Long and frowned. "If you're worried about Wei Long, don't be. I won't let him bully you."

"I know." Hao Yu nodded, thankful to have Chen Jie by his side. Even though he didn't plan on staying, it was quite comforting. Chen Jie had always been kind, supportive and protective. He was the kind that didn't fight for himself but for his friends. Touch him or insult him a thousand times, he would not do anything but touch his friend or loved one. He'd rearrange your bones.

He could remember a time they played basketball with some street basketball players. One of them had been trying to provoke Chen Jie throughout the game but Chen Jie remained immune to his sharp tongue and tricks while playing. When the person got tired, he moved on to Hao Yu who had always been known as a fireball. The guy knocked Hao Yu down while they were playing and Chen Jie beat the daylights out of him. That was how the match ended and both sides never played against each other again.

Hao Yu was confident that Wei Long would not be able to approach him of Chen jie was beside him.

Though Wei Long was quite fit too and could fight...

He shook his head. Wei Long was the last person he needed to think about.

The field suddenly erupted in cheers and screams the second Hao Yu was sighted.

"Ahhhhh!!!!! We love you Hao Yu!!!" Some girls screamed.

A couple of Alphas from his class ran down the bleachers to welcome him and Hao Yu found himself enveloped by them all, their enthusiasm palpable.

Strong arms lifted him, creating a jubilant procession towards the principal's front as they chanted loudly; "Champion! Champion! Champion!"

Their voices echoed through the air, a symphony of celebration that resonated with each step.

A disoriented Hao Yu was carried and placed beside the other contestants who were all wearing dark faces having lost the marathon to an Omega. Hao Yu could recall winning the marathon in his former life but they hadn't celebrated like this. Was it because this time, he was an Omega?

After he was placed with the others, everyone went back to their seats, including Chen Jie. Hao Yu suddenly felt uncomfortable being stared at by so many people. In his former life, he basked in attention but after so many ups and downs with Wei Long, he became extremely introverted and hated interacting with people. It went on for years so being in the spotlight made him feel like throwing up.

The principal, who was standing at the podium, beaming with pride, held the microphone and spoke, addressing his students and the winners of the different games. He described the year's inter-house sports as phenomenal and one to remember throughout history for an Omega, namely Hao Yu, won the marathon! He spoke eloquently, heaping praises on Hao Yu. Saying that despite his weak constitution as an Omega, his frail body and dainty features, Hao Yu had managed to beat all the Alphas.

Including the toughest and strongest Alpha, Wei Long!

Hao Yu felt his heart seize at the mention of Wei Long. His body trembled and he gazed down at the grass. Fuck. Even the name affected him so much.

And who has frail bones and dainty features?! He used to be an Alpha! He mega Alpha! His constitution was not weak!

Everyone cheered and the principal moved on to present the awards. Hao Yu listened and wasn't surprised to hear Wei Long's name being mentioned a lot because Wei Long had won many of the games.

It was just that his heart hurt every time he heard it. He felt sick and he refused to raise his head. He didn't want to see him. Hao Yu was deathly afraid of looking into those chocolate eyes.

He was afraid of falling for Wei Long all over again.

Finally, it was time to award the winners of the marathon.

Third was a guy called Xu Kaiwen. Hao Yu remembered him as a member of their basketball team. They used to play video games and eat together in his former life. Xu Kaiwen moved abroad to further his studies after graduating and they gradually lost contact. Especially after his madness began.

Second was obviously Wei Long and Hao Yu wished he would stop hearing the name already.

Lastly, the principal called upon him and the place erupted in cheers, howls and whistles. Last time, he had waved at the crowd, grinning from ear to ear as he went to collect his medal but now, he walked with his head hung low.

He wasn't happy in any way. Last time, he had won the marathon to get Wei Long's attention.

Now, he didn't want any attention at all.

He stood before the principal and bowed his head to accept the medal.

"You did well, Hao Yu." The principal said. "You have made us all very proud."
