To shield his mother, Cardan lied that he slept with them and discarded them.
But if he did sleep with them, they would not have been found virgins. For someone as sly as his younger brother, he was bad at lying.
And Marilyn controlled Cardan's mind most of the time when he was reluctant to obey her.
Cardan never confessed to Aleister about it but it was not hard for him to read along the lines of his lies. After Aleister learned more about the heavenly powers, it was easier for him to get past such deceptions.
''I did not see him around,'' Esme's first impression of Cardan was that she wanted to kill him for his audacity but it looked like, there were misunderstandings involved. Moreover, she had seen him lurking around Luciana like a pesky fly so putting the past behind would not be bad if he truly was not the way he showed himself to be, ''I think he flew after Lucy.''
