A whole new world

"In every walk in with nature, one receives more than he seeks." – John Muir

Gradually the light began to dim, revealing vibrant green trees as tall as houses, their leaves covering the sky with bits of light seeping through tiny gaps with in them. Lush green grass littered the ground with patches of different flower species never before seen. Butterfly like creatures flying through the air, insects scurrying along the floor minding their own business.

All in all, this place was beautiful, undisturbed by man. Sam and Mike were left flabbergasted by the sheer beauty of the forest, this was one of the most beautiful sights they have ever laid their eyes upon.

After a few minute of admiring the beautiful forest, they came to their senses. Their faces contorted into confusion.

"How could a simple cupboard door lead to a wonderful place like this? This is definitely not the forest behind our house, or else we would have known." Mike questioned in a confused tone of voice.

Mike couldn't wrap his mind around the logic of the situation.

"I know, this is all so weird but at the same time exciting. Imagine what we could find here, the adventures we could go on, all the interesting things we could do. This could be our hiding place, our hangout spot and we could do anything we want with it." Sam answered back, his voice containing excitement for all the possibilities that could happen.

Mike never heard his brother so excited about something other than bubble gum milkshake. The excitement about bubble gum milkshake Mike could understand, but this, this was out of the blue.

'He's definitely acting weird' Thought Mike, but decided to push that thought to the back of his head.

Turning back to the door, Mike froze, the door mysteriously vanished.

Sam noticing his brothers unusual silence, Sam turned to look at him.

"Hey what's wrong?" Sam asked his brother.

All Mike could do was point his shaking index finger in the direction of where the door used to be. Sam looking in the direction he was pointing also froze.

Dozens of thoughts went through their mind, but the main one was 'were they trapped in here.'

Sam slowly walked to where the door used to be, waving his hand through the air as if he was making sure the door was invisible instead of gone. Feeling no resistance against his hand, Sam dropped his hand to his side. He turned back to Mike and shook his head.

Fear, that's what they felt at that moment, fear of not going back home to their parents and sister. Fear of getting lost in this potentially dangerous forest, thus their emotions were thrown into turmoil.

A couple of minutes went by without them doing anything, other than just staring into space, Mike seemed to snap out of his trance like state trying his hardest to stay calm and collected.

Finally calm enough to think rationally, Mike decided to take lead and try to get them to safety.

"Sam we need to find shelter now before night falls, we don't know what is lurking in this forest."

Getting no response, Mike shook Sam's shoulder trying to get him out of his trance.

"Sam, SAM! We need to get out of here and find shelter before night falls."

After a few more shakes and calling Sams name in a slightly raised voice to get his attention, Sam successfully woke up from the trance like state he was in.

"Yeah… Yeah, we should find shelter." Sam answered in a barely audible voice, it seems as if Sam was the most affected by the doors disappearance than his twin.

Taking a hold of Sams hand Mike lead them deeper into the forest.

After an hour or so of walking, they came across a huge tree with an opening at the base, it looked hollowed out and big enough for the both of them.

Deciding this was the best place to set up camp, Mike left Sam in the tree while he went out to gather sticks and stones for a fire from the general area around the tree.

Gathering enough resources, Mike began to set up a campfire a few feet away from the tree. Clearing the area of any leaves and sticks mike dug circular grove and proceeded to set the stones in the grove, setting up the sticks in a cone shape with a opening at the bottom. Inside the cone of sticks was a small pile of dry leaves.

Once Mike was finished, he didn't immediately light the campfire up, instead he left it just like that, he would only light it was when it was cold at night, which was approaching fast.

He didn't want to alert any possible dangerous creatures out their about their presence.

Night soon approached and the temperature started to drop rapidly. Mike quickly took out his lighter that he had on him, he had a lighter on him because he smokes cigarettes and he didn't want his parents finding out about it, so he decided to keep it on him in fear that his parents would find it and connect the dots.

Lighting up the campfire, Sam and Mike cuddle up next to the campfire in hopes of raising their declining body temperature.

Soon exhaustion took over Sam and he fell asleep on his brothers shoulder. Mike seeing this laid his head on Sams head and tried to fall asleep.

*Crack*

Hearing the sound of, what mike thought sound like a stick being stepped on, Mike instantly became alert.

Looking around Mike couldn't see nor hear anything moving within the shrubs. After a few minutes of nothing happening, Mike decided try to go to sleep.

*Crack*

Again, the sound of a stick being stepped on resounded through the quit atmosphere. Mike's head instantly raised in attention and started surveying the area, and again nothing happened after a few minutes.

The same thing kept on happening over and over through out the night, Mike had at least a 3 hours of sleep.
