Mutation

Chris was more than surprised, to say the least when he saw those details in the status screen of the Frost Fox.

Beasts would have a single skill as soon as they were born. This could be either a racial skill or a common skill depending on the beast.

Racial skills are best when compared to common skills. This was because common skills can be picked up, as long as they are done.

Let's consider [Bite], which would be considered a waste if the beast got it either through birth or when rank is upgraded. Every beast has teeth and then can bite. Slowly they can get these types of skills.

What the beast tamers hope is that their beasts have skills like [Frost Bullet], which is an elemental skill, that can't be learned like [Bite].

Luckily for Chris, he got a racial skill that goes with the suffix "Frost" in the "Frost Fox".

It was well and good but as Chris thought, this fox was a mutated one. Due to his mutation, there was another skill, [Crystalline Body].

Though it is not a skill that increases its prowess, it is a rare defence skill.

Beasts have to survive in the wild by hunting. So most beasts would have attack skills. to defend themselves from other beasts, they have defence skills.

A skill that can change the entire body structure is very rare though. It is a very good skill, usually, but Chris can't say whether that is true or not until it is tested. This was something he couldn't test at the moment.

The fox was born a few hours ago and that means it is not ready for a fight at this time. It is time for it to grow and train before it sees an actual battle.

The problem though was its talent.

Not every beast would have a talent, but the ones with a talent would progress much better than their counterparts. The problem was that Chris couldn't determine whether the talent was helpful or not.

It makes the beast lazy and sleepy all the time but while sleeping, the beast can grow which is a good thing.

That's the dilemma.

Chris has no idea if his pet would ever take training seriously. Though with its talent, the growth is guaranteed, without proper training, it would turn into a waste. This is something he can't let happen.

Even though the talent mentioned that the fox would sleep most of the time, when the time comes to eat or fight, it would not be sleeping.

So Chris immediately got the idea of how to train his sleeping pet. the answer is food.

Since it likes to sleep a lot, it would probably wake up as soon as food is present. So using the food as a reward, he can train the fox.

Of course, that could cost a lot of money but he has no choice but to do it.

What he could save from the Evolutionary Materials, would probably be gone by using for food rewards but there is nothing that he could do, at least until he got a second pet, which would not be a lazy bum like this one.

Added to these unknown scenarios, there was the evolution of the beast. Normally one can't see that but somehow he can see that.

What's the reason? He has no idea.

The issue was not that he could see this evolution route but about the evolution route. It shows that it is the optimum evolution route and that means there are other routes but this route is the best route for this beast.

After taking this route, the One-tailed Frost Fox would become a Two-tailed Frost Fox.

He never heard about One-tailed Frost Fox, much less Two-tailed Frost Fox. Not many, if not any should have. So if anyone sees the two-tailed beast, they should definitely guess that it is a new evolutionary path.

Many would be attracted when they see that a new possible path for evolution has appeared. it may be good if you have a background or the other party may not treat you well and could try to seize the details using force.

This is why, Chris decided to not show his second talent.

After the evolution, Chris is not afraid that it would attract unwanted elements. It is because, he has a secret weapon, Mutation.

It is not much of a secret.

Beast Tamers knew that some beasts would go through mutation. It can happen at any time, mostly at birth or when they are evolving to a higher rank.

When Snow reaches bronze rank and has two tails, he can just say that was due to mutation during the rank-up. It would take the heat off his back.

Through this, he can attract resources from the academies.

Academies would want to create pillars for human society and that means, they want to train powerful beast tamers. To do that, they need to find someone with such potential.

The mutation of a pet beast is also seen as a potential. Everyone knew that mutation would increase a beast's prowess, which would help the beast tamer to rank up fast. So having a mutated beast is a plus point for Chris.

As he was only a C-grade talent, the top academies wouldn't be interested in him, unless he shows that he has what it takes to reach the top of society. Only then, would anyone would pay attention towards him.

The bad part was that he couldn't see what was required materials for the evolution. Even though he has an idea of what the evolutionary path would lead to, he doesn't have what it would take.

Well, he can do nothing about that but wait till the fox reaches the peak of Iron rank.

Though he couldn't get clear details about his pet, he was happy that he chose this instead of the other one, which probably has something that is not compatible with him.

Chris then went on to check his status, only to be surprised once again.
