First Pet (4)

While Chris was searching for the perfect one to start, he started to feel something in his body as he neared the eggs. It was as if something was pulling him towards the eggs.

Chris didn't know whether it was a hallucination or real. He knew that his hormones were at an all-time high due to the awakening a few hours ago and now with the selection of pet beasts. He is very anxious about that.

Though he has powerful talents, he also needs a good partner to make sure that he can proceed forward in life, causing him to be anxious.

He felt because of his state of mood, maybe he was hallucinating.

So he checked whether that was true or not.

Whenever he neared an egg, he would feel the pull but he observed something else. The pull that he felt was different with different eggs. For some, the pull is weaker while for some it is higher.

Chris didn't understand what it was but he was sure that that pull was going to decide what beast egg he was going to select as his first pet beast, but there was a problem.

The problem was that he didn't know whether the weaker the pull was or the higher the pull, the better.

That is going to be a problem but he decided to worry about that, after finding two eggs, each satisfying one condition.

The students were given only an hour to select their eggs, because there are a lot of schools in the city. Though there are multiple bestiaries in the city, the schools that are near to this would come here.

In order to not cause an overcrowded situation or fight over the beast eggs, only one school would be allowed at a time and they would only have one hour. After that, whether they selected the beast or not, they have to leave. That was the rule.

Chris didn't have much time to select the best. So he did his best. He went looking at every beast egg, that was on display.

To most students, it was easy to select as most of the eggs' origin was known. There are only a few where the origin is unknown, making most select eggs from the known sections as selecting a pet from the unknown section would mean that they are leaving everything to luck.

Luck is not something one can depend on most of the time. Most people's luck would be average or low, except for a chosen few. So no one would throw their lives on luck.

Chris too didn't want to depend on luck, but he may have to with how things are going.

Though Chris kept his rank among the top ten, his knowledge can be said to be at the top of the year but to not attract unwanted attention, he decided to be low-key.

He read too many novels, where he saw idiots coming and causing trouble for the MC. He saw that as a waste of his precious time and losing a a few ranks wouldn't change anything anyway. So he sacrificed those ranks on purpose.

In all the books that he read, there was no mentioning of this strange occurrence, where the tamer would feel a pull.

The connection was supposed to happen after the contract was successful. So he has no idea about this but he attributed that was happening probably because of his second talent. There was no knowledge of such a talent existing to this day.

So he has no idea about what it can truly do, except for the brief description.

What a talent's true capabilities are, he had to find on his own.

For more than half an hour Chris kept searching every section. Soon, Chris stopped in front of a beast egg.

The pull was particularly higher when compared to others. He looked at the section and the egg belonged to UNKNOWN.

Yes, the alliance couldn't find what the beast is and what its abilities are.

Unless someone contracts it, no one can know what abilities it has.

Contracting this egg is a risk. Moreover, he didn't whether higher pull is good or bad. He has already resigned that he may have to depend on luck, but that was only 50-50 % but now that's not the case anymore.

Even if higher pull means a good thing, an egg from an unknown creature means, he wouldn't know what to feed it. Different beast eats different food.

Even if it is the best beast, if the cost of food is very high, then he would go bankrupt before he can start his profession.

If he knew what the creature would be, then based on his family's position, he could decide whether to take it or, even if he would be missing out on the best beast there is.

There is nothing he could do about that.

Now, it was quite a hassle.

While Chris was pondering on whether to choose the egg that had the highest pull or the one with the weakest pull, his friend appeared, disturbing him.

"Chris, I need your help", William said as he appeared before Chris.

Chris frowned at his words. Though he and William are best friends, everyone has their own lives to think about. One can't help others when they have things to care of on their own in the first place.

Chris was still thinking about choosing which egg to choose and there were only fifteen minutes before he had to leave the bestiary, with or without a beast.

Once he exits the bestiary, the chance of getting a free beast would be gone. He had to use his family to get a beast egg.

Even though he has a talent that makes it less of a financial burden to evolve his pet beasts, the food part is still on the menu. The pet beast food comes in various quantities from lowest to highest.

For better growth, best quality food is recommended but most can't afford such food. If he had to buy an egg, then the quality of the beast's food would have to decrease, which would affect his future.

Even though he was angry at his friend, for something he should have selected on his own. After all, they both studied the same materials all these years and William should have enough knowledge for that. Even with that, Chris decided to allocate five minutes.

"What is it, William?" Chris asked William.
