"What is it, William?" Chris asked his friend.
He wanted to do his friend a favour as soon as possible so that he could concentrate on his own issue.
"Sorry Chris, I know that you have to select your pet too but I am having trouble selecting my pet beast", William scratched his head like he did something bad and wanted to diffuse the situation.
He kind of did.
Everyone would only get one hour to select their pets and that applies to Chris as well. So disturbing him for your purposes is considered doing something bad. If Chris fails to select or selects the wrong one because of the wasted time, then the fault lies with William.
Chris sighed. He knew his friend's character very well and how stupid he can be sometimes. This is why instead of pushing him away when he still has to select his own pet, he accepted to help William.
"Tell me, we don't have much time and I still have to select my own pet", Chris spoke.
Hearing that his friend accepted to help him, William smiled, "I narrowed down my options to three pets but I am not sure which to select", he said.
"Which ones?"
"Since I have Earth Affinity as my talent, I chose Earth Affinity-based beasts. Of them, I narrowed them down to three. They are Spike Armadillo, Quake Elephant, and Mud Crocodile. They all seem good but I have no idea what to select", William spoke.
"Hmm, all three are good choices but the one that you select has to align with what you have planned for your future", Chris said.
"Huh?" William didn't understand what Chris was relaying to him.
"All Earth Elemental Beasts are good at defence, that's a given but they can do more than just defend. For example, if you take the Spike Armadillo, no one can be near it as the spikes would injure them. Moreover, it can eject those spikes at the enemies, making it a very efficient killer when there are multiple enemies".
"Quake Elephant can cause earthquakes, which stun the people and also can stomp those stumped enemies, while Mud Crocodile can use mud to slow down the enemy movements and attack them".
"Every beast can do more than just defend. No beast would have a single aspect. The beast you select should have what you want".
"For example, in dungeons, having an Elephant is not a positive, rather that's a negative due to its size. In swamps, neither an armadillo nor an elephant can move as well as a crocodile. Armadillo can cover you up very well, and take care of any approaching enemies easily".
"Every beast has their own pros and cons".
"If I say so, don't select the Quake Elephant, as it costs more than others to maintain and to strain would be difficult, which is not something you can afford at this point. There are no swamps or large river areas near here. So I don't think the Mud Crocodile is good either but there is a desert nearby, which would be the best place for the Armadillo" Chris said to his friend.
William placed his hand on his chin and started to think, "Hmm, you are right. With the size it would reach, my family can't support it and though raising a crocodile was supposed to be cheaper, but with the lack of resources needed by it not available near here, they should be very costly".
"As you said, with the desert in the vicinity, raising an Armadillo would be less costly and easier to rank up when compared to the other two. Thank you Chris", William hugged him and then ran away to pick up the egg that he chose.
Chris checked the time, and he still had ten more minutes, which he deems more than enough.
There were still a few more eggs in the unknown section, that he needed to check but he remembered what egg he felt the most attracted to.
---
Two minutes before the end of one hour...
Chris returned back to the egg that pulled him more than others. He checked if he might feel like that with other eggs in the unknown section but there were none that pulled him like that one. There are a few strong pulls but when compared to the one that he found just before installing sage words into his friend's mind was the only one that he felt that much pull towards.
He didn't find any other egg with such pull.
Now he has two eggs as the competitors of the finale. He had to toss a coin to select or trust his instincts in selecting one. There is no other way to do things either.
He would either become the strongest of the newbies or would become the worst of the newbies. It now depends on his luck.
Sigh!
Chris sighed in defeat after a minute of contemplating on what to select.
"It looks like I don't have much time to think this through, but since a bond would be formed between the beast and the beast tamer once the contract is successful, I chose to believe that the egg that had a stronger pull would be a wise choice, even though it is from an unknown source".
"It doesn't matter. Even if the beast that comes out is not a combat pet, I'll have to make do with that. I have to, as I would have no other choice", Chris muttered as he selected his first partner.
Once he selected the egg, he turned to the attendant of the bestiary, "Sir, I chose this egg", Chris said.
The eggs are locked in glass frames to stop any possible thefts.
There were many such cases to happen in the past. Even among students incidents like that happened more than a few times. So once one selected the beast egg, only by informing the nearest attended, would one be able to get the beast and contract it afterwards.
