Chapter 17 Introductions

Chen Jin and Flenders were sitting at a table, the Dean had just finished reading Chen Xin's letter and was rapping his fingers on the table with a thoughtful expression.

Chen Jin just waited patiently for him to get his thoughts in order, there was no need to explain anything, the letter was more than enough proof of his motives here.

A while after Flenders stopped and seemed to have come to a decision.

"So resuming, something supposedly impossible happened to you, and you want to find a place out of sight to temporarily hide away without completely isolating yourself from people, mainly spirit masters" he started.

"I suppose you chose my academy because you can still gain some battle experience sparing with us?" Flenders continued.

Chen Jin smiled and nodded instead of answering, he got the feeling that it wasn't really a question. Flenders was just putting his thoughts to words.

The Dean just nodded at that, as if it were expected.

"I hope you know that you still have to pay tuition" He said then. "And the testing fees, we can't forget about that" Flenders muttered distractedly.

Chen Jin replied with light amusement "Of course, I am not a freeloader" admittedly he was expecting the reminder, he didn't need any talent test, and they both knew that, but Flenders wouldn't let any money slip away.

Chen Jin took out a fairly big pouch and started counting the coins, he stopped at twenty and looked at Flender.

"The tuition is one hundred gold coins" he said. His eyes had an exited gleam. It was a bit disconcerting actually.

Chen Jin continued counting the coins as he asked "Before opening the door you asked about three people. I've also seen three when coming here, can you tell me about them? " he could make a guess about who they were, teachers and students, but some small talk was good and it would also give him a greater understanding of the current academy.

Flender's eyes did not leave the coins that were starting to pile up on the wooden table as he answered distractedly "My Shrek academy currently has three students.

They are Feng Shizi, a 42nd level Soul Ancestor, he is the oldest of our students at nineteen years old, he's already met all requirements of graduation, reaching the fortieth level and a silver badge on the great soul arena, Little Lion is just waiting for the other two, they decided to all graduate together and travel the mainland.

Then there is Cao Desi, he's the second oldest, at eighteen years old he's just reached level forty, a week ago he went with two of our teachers to get a spirit ring.

The last one is Tie Qiang, he's the youngest at seventeen and has just become a 39th level Soul Elder" Flender stopped here and started counting the coins himself, he knew the number was right, they were counted in front of him after all, but he couldn't stop himself.

Chen Jin looked at him with a bit of disbelief and an even greater amount of resignation. He could already see that this would be common every time money was involved.

"Please, continue" he said with sigh as he pinched his nose.

"Right..." Flender started with a serious expression, somebody else might think that he was truly serious about what he was saying, but anyone who knew him or just looked at him carefully would be able to tell that the greater part of his interest was directed at the coins on the table.

"Besides the three students Shrek academy still has five teachers. As you know, our academy has no facilities to speak off, but we can take pride in our teachers, even the few academies that do have teachers of our level do not have them teaching the students.

They are Li Yusong, a 61st level Soul Emperor, his spirit is the Dragon patterned staff, unfortunately he had no backing when he was younger, so even though his spirit has a high quality his first few spirit rings are bellow average in quality, because of that he's reached his limits, he won't go much further." Flender briefly looked regretful while talking about that.

Chen Jin could understand why too, there are a quite a few spirit masters in this situation, from what he read of the original there's a lot of people with white rings.

Flender's hesitation was brief, and he quickly continued speaking, amusedly enough for Chen Jin, he was still counting the gold coins, he was also doing it as slowly as possible to draw it out.

"After that we have Lu Jibin, his spirit is called Star Luo Chess, he's a 63rd level Soul Emperor, his situation is a little bit better than Li Yusong, but not by much unfortunately, his innate talent was also a bit lower." Flender shook his head a bit as he talked.

He continued "Those two are the ones who went with Cao Desi to get his spirit ring"

"In a much better situation we have Shao Xin, he's not only younger than the previous two but his spirit rings are also a lot better, he his a food support soul master with a Sweet Pea spirit. He's currently a 66th level Soul Emperor."

Flender had, very regretfully by his expression, finished counting the coins, so he'd leaned back on his chair and crossed his arms as he shifted his attention to Chen Jin.

"As our Vice Dean we have Zhao Wuji that you saw before. He's currently a 69th level Soul Emperor. His spirit is the Vigorous Vajra Bear and he is quite strong. If you were a bit older you'd have heard of him, he had a tendencie to get in trouble, it's how he ended up here actually" Flender smiled at that.

Chen Jin did not know if he was smiling because he ended up there or because he was beaten up until he had to run and ended up there. He felt it was a combination of the two.

"Lastly I'm the Headmaster, obviously. And I'm currently a 72nd level Spirit Saint" Flender said with a small bit of pride.

Chen Jin nodded at that, he could see why, at this time Spirit Saints weren't exactly rare, but they weren't common either. Flender also had the potential to go further.

"Now that I've finished introductions on my part I think it's time you reciprocate little monster" Flender raised his eyebrow in challenge, from the letter he already knew that the little guy in front of him was probably the most talented person he would ever see. It was time to ascertain by how much. He also wanted to know what his spirit was.

Chen Jin had no problems rising to the challenge, so he got up, gave a small bow with his right hand on his left pectoral and with a mischievous smile he let two yellow spirit rings come out while he introduced himself.

"My name is Chen Jin and I'm nearly six, my spirit is my own body and I'm currently a 24th level Spirit Grandmaster"

Flenders bugged out eyes for the second time of the day and his shocked expression were the best answer he could have gotten.

Hello there!

Originally this chapter was supposed to have his first spar, but the introductions were getting lenghty so I decided to leave it for the next chapter.
