The personal backpack was a portable space bound to everyone that was used to store items since [Doomsday Online] began.
Some equipment had specific requirements and had to be carried with them in order for it to be effective. If it was kept in the system space, it wouldn't be effective.
And even though one's equipment was kept in their personal backpack, it would open up after one was killed.
One example was the card of rule that Jiang Cheng previously used. Whether it was put in the backpack or with him, it would become Link's loot when Jiang Cheng died.
