“She liked it, too. You felt it. We all did. She can’t fake that sort of desire. I’m personally sorry it happened the way it did, but I don’t think it’ll even occur to Emma to hold it against you.”

“Maybe she can’t fake it, but I’m the one who kept you in that room. There is no way she wasn’t feeding off you, not with the way you two get.”

“Gideon…I don’t think that’s right.” Jesse swallowed. He didn’t think the truth would actually help, but lying wasn’t an option. “She might have been feeding off me, but only after she started slamming me with all her desire. I didn’t…I wasn’t happy to bring her in there with you.”

Gideon shook his head. “Because you were afraid of what I was going to do to her.”

“Yes, I was. But you didn’tdo what I was afraid of, and we both know you could have. That counts for something. An awful lot, actually.”

“I just don’t know how I’m going to look her in the eye.”
