The sky was covered with a blanket of dark clouds. It was going to rain. Nancy and Samuel had reached the cave-like area to spend the night in. There was no way they could make it out of the woods in one day.
Nancy sat on the ground right away and started breathing heavily, catching her breaths. Samuel went outside the cave and returned with dry wood.
"I shall light a fire once our surroundings are clear," Samuel said slowly, removing his coat and sitting behind Nancy, putting the coat over her gently. "You may rest."
Nancy looked into his eyes. They were cold yet warm, full of sorrow and remorse, bold and brave. She wondered why he had to be like that. It was too unfair for someone who had only suffered his entire life. That's why she didn't want to end up hating him just because of witnessing what he was like. She wanted to hold him dearly despite his actions.
