But within the wooden hut, aside from Liu Ming's own echo, there was absolutely no response.
"Lianxi! Feng'er!"
Liu Ming turned and left the wooden hut, seemingly soulless as he sprinted towards his family's rice paddies, shouting loudly as he ran.
A cup of tea's time later, in a rice field behind the village.
"Er Gou, why are you plowing the field on my land? Where are Lianxi and Feng'er?" Liu Ming grabbed a frail-looking man and demanded loudly.
"Third Liu, you have the nerve to ask. You left home for ten years. I don't know what kind of life you've been leading in the county, but could you really bear to let this widow and orphan wait for you here, suffering all these years?" The skinny man pushed Liu Ming away and said coldly.
"Er Gou, what do you mean by that? Why are you tilling my land, and where are Lianxi and Feng'er? Tell me now!" Liu Ming pressed on anxiously.
