Chapter 34

Avery walked inside but froze the moment she saw the person seated in the lounge. It was none other than Becky, James fiancee. She was about to walk away when Becky spoke.

"Surprised to see me?" Well, James agreed for me to stay. You are not a real wife so he said I can stay. Becky shrugged her shoulders as she stood up and walked up to her.

But Avery ignored her words. I don't care if he asks you to move in finally to be his wife. I don't give a damn! She said and Becky rolled her eyes. She knew that James was slowly falling in love with Avery but she wasn't sure about Avery feelings for him. Her fear was if This two stubborn people finally realize how much they love each other, it will be a big blow to her face.

She must do something else it will be too late for her. She thought as she walked away leaving Avery rooted to the ground. Avery took in a deep breath to calm her racing heart. She felt weird after saying those words to Becky. She , herself doesn't understand what's going on in her mind. She thought as she used the elevator to go upstairs. On getting to the hallway, her eyes fell on the mysterious painting.

The same image of a dark man wearing a black mask holding a sword. She swallowed hard. This painting has a strong feel to it. Each time she look at this painting, she is always reminded of James. His heartless heart, his cold voice, his unfathomable and unreadable expressions.

Every thing about him feels so strange and mysterious. It's like ------

As if she had sense someone, she turned around only to see James standing tall as he is. His hands in his pockets; his cold eyes blankly staring at her.

Avery didn't say anything cause of the fight they had earlier, she just walked past him to the Master suite. Avery locked the door as she stood still at the back of the door. Tears refused to drain from her eyes.

How she wished she could escape and never return. She thought as she took off her coat and went to the bathroom to take a cool shower. As the shower rained down on her, her tears slowly rolled down her cheeks non stop silently. She held the handle of the shower for a long while before turning it off. She grabbed a towel to dry her body before wearing her robe.

She came out of the bathroom and sat on the bed. Her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of saving her father's life. What can she do in other to look for the one million to save her father before time is up. As she was lost in thought, she heard a knock. She stood up and went to open the door only to be surprised to see him at the entrance.

James stood there staring at her with a blank expression. Avery slowly stepped aside for him to pass but James didn't. He remained there not moving. But what he said confused her.

Get dressed! Was what left his mouth. Avery gulped nervously and managed to ask, "why"?

But James didn't say anything and walked downstairs, but before he left. He told her he gave her five minutes to meet him downstairs. With that walked away.

Avery swallowed hard before calming her racing heart and went back inside to get dressed in other not anger him. She wore a simple white pantsuit and let her hair down. Carried her purse and went downstairs only to see him sitting down like a king.

I'm ready. She said getting his attention. James was brought back from his train of thoughts as his eyes fell on her. This was rare for someone like James to be lost in thought. Could it be that James also has his own inner struggles that he is battling with? She thought as she try to decipher something from that his stone hearted facial expressions. But she couldn't.

"Let's go." He said as he walked away with Avery following him. The sky was already turning dark cause it was getting late. But the two people who were dressed entered the car and it sped off in max speed. Avery has been itching to talk but she was afraid of his brutalised words. After a long while of driving, the car stopped in the middle of an eerie road.

Avery's heart that has been beating non stop like a fast tornado finally calmed down. James got down while Avery followed suit. She saw that they were on top of a bridge but it was empty. James walked towards her and stretched his hand for her to grasp which she did. They walked hand in hand and Avery felt kind of safe holding him.

She finally asked,

"Why are we here"??

James stopped walking and stared at her. To do something in other to save your father. He replied with a cold tone. Avery heart skipped a beat and stared at him with wide puppy eyes.

She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was she hearing right? He finally agreed!! Oh my! Is--

She couldn't think straight and before she knew it she hugged him not caring about the consequences.

Thank you James. She said and hugged him but he didn't hug her back; instead pulled her away. I am not doing it for you. He said heartlessly but Avery wasn't faze.

She just smiled.

Then why did you do it? Why did you agree to finally pay the bills?she couldn't help but asked.

I did it cause I can't afford you to fall sick when the wedding is near. He replied and Avery mouth hunged opened. She was shocked but after a while she smiled.

I know. It's in two weeks time right? She said. But James didn't answer her.

Well, that's by the way,what am I going to do?? She asked beaming with joy.
