Daniel patted Cole’s hand. “See?” he said. “They missed you.”

“Yeah, guess they did.”

With a sigh, Daniel held his arm out. “C’mere,” he said, pulling Cole to him for an embrace.

While it’s good to know they didn’t completely forget me, you’re still the best family I’ve got.

Cole had just found a comfortable curve in Daniel’s shoulder where he could rest his head when Daniel turned sharply. “Did you just take our picture?” Daniel demanded. Cole opened his eyes. Jeanine was giving Daniel a confused look, her phone still pointed at the pair of them. “Young lady, please tell me you didn’t.”

“Well, yeah, but you guys looked so sweet together.”

The muscles in Daniel’s shoulder tensed against Cole’s cheek. “Were you going to post that anywhere? Facebook? Instagram?”

Jeanine’s confusion was quickly souring to guilt. “I mean, I was just gonna send it to a few of my friends on Snapchat…”
