The Day Before

That day was probably like any other day in my life, a nice meal cooked by my mom, my dad scratching my head and laughing while I ate which always makes me pissed and I try to think of some way to get back at him.

My family would have enjoyed this peaceful moment forever if only that god damn event didn't happen. All the laughs have been replaced by the sound of flame. The house I live in has been drowned in fire. Where are my parents? Hope nothing happened to them.

I had hoped my wishful words would come true. But reality does not happen that way, their eyes close as they lie down, their lives slipped away in my arms. 

My dad used to say: "Sometimes we have to step on our foot." Wish my dad could say it to me one more time. This is so painful! So painful. If humans had just not come here, all of this tragedy might not have happened.

In the afternoon, the wind blows on a green field where I am lying down. And like usual I am enjoying the fresh, clean air. The voices of the farmers echoed on the winds from the paddy field far away, flowery scents wafting from somewhere nearby. The sound of a mighty eagle flew in the sky like a roar, destroying this peaceful moment.

"William! Can you come here?" My mom says.

"Yeah!"

I stood up and ran in the direction of my moms voice. She was in a small tent with a fence surrounding it. Inside there is a root with an axe stuck into it to slate wood and in the other area is a clothes pole. My mother came out from the house with a package full of food. She step up to me and say:

"Give this to your dad like always."

"But mom! I'm too tired to do that!"

"Just go for me oki?"

"But mom…"

"Just go, I will make some meat today for you."

"Really?" -After hearing that, I grab the package from her. - "I will go then."

I said and ran as fast as I could, she looked at me from far away. She clasped her hand and yell out:

"Be careful!"

  My full name is William Walter, a wolf person of the animal kind. So that is why, I have two wolf ears with a gray fluffy tail which is a feature of my kind. But different from other types of dogs, I am pure wolf.

However I am not an active kid like those in the village, which are of all different kinds of animals. I don't talk with them much because I want to spend time enjoying the peacefulness of nature. But I still have work to do, my father's work is the farest place in the village which is a usual thing for me. People in the village became familiar with my work and eventually got to know me more.

"William! Is that you? delivering food to your dad?" The owner of the fruit shop asked.

"Yep! Is there something wrong?"

"Nah! I just have some to give you." - He threw a fresh apple at me and said, - "Tell him thank you."

I catch the apple and reply:

"I will! Thanks you!"

After a while, the houses seen side by side no longer appear as I keep traveling. Now in front of him only a long wide yellow paddy field. Some farmers are hard at work this harvest season.

I just want to enjoy this natural view longer but there is still some work to be finished. So I rush as fast as I can to finish it. My step caused some noise and got the attention of some farmers nearby.

"Is that William? Usually I see him just sleeping in random places. I don't think he runs that fast." Mrs Rabbit said. 

"He is a wolf! The son of the chief! He has the abilities in him. But forget about it and do your work."

As the yellow of the paddy field slowly disappears behind me, the huge forest ahead of me gets larger and larger with every step I take. At the end of the road, there is a small blacksmith's workplace billowing plumes of smoke.

When I come closer to that place, I see to my right, the smithy is smoking hot. I have an anvil and a bucket of water if I need them. The loud sounds of water evaporating came out from that house as a loud sizzling roar.

("My dad must being hard at work in there.") I think.

  He is the chief in my village, but also the only blacksmith in the village. My mom had told me stories of when he used to be a great general, a functionary under the animal king. However he has retired for some reason.

But I don't pay it much attention since I don't believe he could have done those things that my moms tales describes. Despite those stories, he is still my dad, an old man who loves working. I call:

"Dad! I brought some food here for you!"

A low voice reply me:

"Coming!"

A tall, middle aged man with a toughened body came walking out of the smokey smith house. On his head, he wears his blacksmith goggles along with a beard and a ponytail. Like William, he is pure wolf person too. He asked:

"What is your mom cooking today?"

"Find out for yourself" - William put the package in front of him. - "Running here makes me so exhausted."

"Come on! Don't sit there complaining." - He opens the package and has a peek inside. - "Ah sweet! Curry!"

William continued to complain:

"If it wasn't for you blowing up a few houses, maybe I would not have to run this far."

"Oh please! Just come in and eat! I am starving." 

"Oki!" I stood up and walk inside.

After eating the meal, I pack up the dishes and started my trip home. Right now it is just a little over 12 pm. Since my mom is not a strict person and wouldn't become angry if I stayed out late, I found a place I liked on a nearby hill and decided to take a quick nap. 

And my normal day came to end like that. Watching the fields never got boring for me. I wish I could gaze at it more but sleepiness overcame me and I fell asleep before I realized it.
