It has been weeks since the doctor decided to bring his son to his home. He had less sleep because of the crying baby, and he had eye bags under his eyes.
Dr. Dexter Angeldame, the youngest doctor in his batch, has been considered as the most charming and most capable, young doctor. But in terms of raising a child, he knew that he lacked the capability, as it was also his first time. Stress had been building up and clouding his mind. Sometimes, he even wondered why he brought the child with him.
Dexter sighed as he looked up to the blue sky. The rooftop was his favorite place, where he smoked his favorite imported cigarette, which had a unique, burnt grass odor. He pulled one roll from the box, lighted it, and put it in his mouth. As he puffs smoke, he notices someone approaching.
"Oh? Dr. Dexter, you're here, too," said Joy, who was one of the nurses in his team. She walked towards him and gazed at the blue sky. "The sky is blue, again… Why do you think it's blue?"
Dexter was surprised to hear an unexpected question from the nurse. He faced her as the smoke from his cigarette continued rising. "Isn't it because the short waves of blue light are scattered more than the other colors of the spectrum?"
Joy laughed heartily. She couldn't believe that the doctor answered her question seriously.
"Am I wrong? Why are you laughing?" Dexter asked as he smoked his cigarette roll.
"I just find it cute," Joy uttered. She then faced Dexter as she said, "You know, I have always liked your intelligence."
The warm, afternoon wind blew and the smoke from Dexter's cigarette followed the direction of the wind. The two gazed into each other's eyes for so long.
It was the first time a woman has told him that she liked him because of his intelligence. Most of the time, they would swoon over him because of his looks, and because he is a young doctor. He had past girlfriends, but the main reason for their breakups was because they said that he was using too much logic and he has never shown them affection.
"Are you single?" Dexter asked Joy with a serious face.
The shy nurse was surprised. She never expected a question like that from a doctor like him. "I am." she answered, "Why?"
Dexter chuckled. He laughed at himself, surprised at the words he has been uttering in front of his colleague. "Nothing, I was just… curious."
They had some intellectual discussions over their break time as if they had just become the best of friends. It was the first time that the doctor had forgotten about his precious cigarettes.
