Broken man

As if understanding his emotions, the two people standing at the end of the stairs began to climb them. Once they were in full light, two zombies appeared. They had turned pale and some of their skin was peeling off. But suddenly, they returned to the shadows. His knees became weak and he sat on the ground. "Time is running out and I still haven't saved you," he thought to himself.

Sarah sat beside him. Without even knowing, he sobbed into her bosoms. At first, she thought he was being a pervert. 'Why is that the first place he'd to cry into?' she asked herself. Upon completing the breakdown, Alex opened his eyes. He realized the kind of danger he was in and jolted back.

This startled her. He stared at her then at her clothes. A big patch around her bosoms was wet. He looked up and wanted to slap himself. He had cried right in front of her. Though she seemed to have no problem with him doing it, he thought of it differently. He stared at her and she threw herself towards him. She lay her head on his lap.

He didn't have any idea of what was going on. She too began to breakdown as her memories slowly became clearer. She then remembered everything up to the point where she had fainted. He wondered why she was crying. He didn't dare ask. That was the perfect time to return the favor she had done. He caressed her cheek in a soothing way. This in turn made her hug him and they in turn fell backwards.

At that point in time, he was confused. Was she happy or sad? He didn't want to interfere with her emotions. "Thank you," she said. He was literally, at that point, stuck in between two relay points.

After a while, they both stood up. She was still hugging him. " It's fine. You're safe now," he said calmly. Before he knew it, he felt a different emotion. Not joy or happiness but something different. Something he hadn't felt in a really long time. He felt at peace with the world.

"Alright, I've got work to do," he said. She let go of him a smile plastered on her face. He felt conflicted with himself. He felt like she was going to betray him at any point in time. It just felt like something would happen and he wasn't ready yet.

He walked back out of the house. He knew that someone who cared about her would be looking for her. He walked into the shed and packed a few things he required for surveying. At that point, he'd realized that he didn't know how the town looked like. He packed some water into his adventure backpack and prepared to leave.

He noticed her at the door just as he was about to leave the shack. He passed by her about to leave through the gates. "I want to go with you," she said. He shook his head. "You just arrived here yesterday," he complained. He shook his head upon her plea. He didn't want her to follow him. He knew that to her he would be a freak.

What kind of person can talk to zombies and himself not be a zombie. This was the question he asked himself. He didn't have an answer. He refused her offer and promised to be back by evening. She accepted the offer and he advised on where to get food, incase she got hungry. He left the compound. Drawing the map of the whole town ass he passed through it. First he began with the buildings he knew, going over to unknown.

By evening, he was done and so he began to head home. Upon arrival, he was received by an overjoyed female. He didn't know why her emotions were so. He had an idea. The rainy season was nearing and this way, he could collect more water. He had to build a water system that would go around the house. He immediately went to come up with a water system.

Dusk arrived and he stopped. It almost completed. He knew that he had to somehow bring light to his house. He entered the house and closed the door. He lit a lantern that he'd luckily found along his survey trip. At the dinner table, she presented supper. Some potatoes, cabbages with rice.

He bit into it and ate ravenously. That whole time she watched him curiously. 'It's as if he's never actually eaten this meal,' she told herself. He caught her gazing at him but she quickly looked away and an awkward silence followed. He looked outside. There was a full moon. "It's time to go to bed," he said and she agreed.

He escorted her to the guest bedroom, tucked her in and got ready to leave. She held his hand as he turned and whispered, "I'm scared of the dark." Her face flushed red cause she was embarrassed. He sighed and nodded. "Only for today," Alex said. She nodded in agreement.

He was up early the next morning. The sun had already risen. He sat on the bed. She was still asleep and he needed to continue with installation of the water system. He tucked her in and walked out. He headed for the shack and finished up the water system. He grabbed the ladder and began installing it around the house.

Once he was done, he walked back into the house. He looked around as he felt something was wrong. He sniffed around. He raised is arm and sniffed his armpit and coughed as he held his nose. "Damn, I stink," he told himself.
